Definitely crunchy for me - and for my Dad who is completely addicted to whole earth and gets through pots and pots of it! My preference is for marmite and peanut butter sandwiches and I am now craving one. :o)

MaryannM · 12/09/2013 17:18

A non tester here... I love smooth peanut butter on toast. Devine.... Was One of my pregnancy cravings :-)

NorbertDentressangle · 12/09/2013 17:38

DDs peanut butter cookies..
Review to follow

NorbertDentressangle · 12/09/2013 17:39

Hmm - first attempt at putting a photo on MN obviously an epic fail.

Nerfmother · 12/09/2013 17:45
  1. Taste etc- hmm. Dh took one look and said mmmmm muddy peanut butter. Ds (5) was perturbed by the red bits and didnt want to eat them (peanut skin) and then got really confused by the lumps and spat then on the plate. It looks a lot more natural than the usual smooth stuff was get.
  2. Comparison - much more earthy and smaller lumps. Tasted less bland.
  3. Price - I go for cheap at the moment but mum who can afford to would definitely buy this - she prefers organic, natural, tasty food.
  4. How we eat it - sandwiches, toast, rice cakes.
  5. Recommend? Yes to grown ups with developed taste buds.
NorbertDentressangle · 12/09/2013 17:54

Couldn't add it from my phone so have had to take another photo with the camera and add it via laptop

I'll add my reviews after dinner

I wasn't a tester, but I prefer my peanut butter crunchy. My lo will be weaning very soon so I'll be buying smooth for her.

NorbertDentressangle · 12/09/2013 18:59

Q1. What did you/your DCs think of the consistency, texture and flavour of Whole Earth peanut butter? Was this similar/different to what you were expecting?
It was crunchier with bigger bits of nut than I was expecting but we all preferred this to the usual crunchy peanut butters that we buy. Flavour-wise both DP and I preferred to it but the DC say they prefer our usual one (I think they noticed the lack of added sugar)

Q2. If you have tried other peanut butter brands before, how do you think Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter compared overall?
The grown-ups preferred it (both the texture and flavour) and the DC preferred the texture but not the flavour

Q3. The RRP for 227g of Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter is £1.99 and 454g is £3.19. Would you be happy to pay this? If so, why. If not, why not?
Its a lot more than the one we tend to buy (Lidl) so wouldn't pay that much for day to day peanut butter, especially as we get through so much. However if I saw it on offer I would buy a few.

Q4. How did you eat your peanut butter product? On its own? On toast? Did you use it in a recipe? If so, what did you cook?
We ate it on bread and toast for breakfast or after school snack and DD also made some peanut butter cookies which were delicious!

Q5. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Whole Earth peanut butter to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would recommend it especially to families with very young children as they can be introduced to a peanut butter without all the added sugar etc

Scuttlebutter · 12/09/2013 19:04

Non tester. Love crunchy Whole Earth - has been our preferred brand for twenty years or so. PB and coleslaw sandwiches - so wrong, yet so right. Also used for cooking, sandwiches, in curries, it's great. No DC here - just a mostly veggie pair of adults.

maddiemostmerry · 12/09/2013 19:31

Q1. What did you/your DCs think of the consistency, texture and flavour of Whole Earth peanut butter? Was this similar/different to what you were expecting?

We all like the consistency. It was less claggy than our usual brand as it was not so oily. It had bigger chunk of nuts in. It did seem blander than our usual(tesco value) because it wasn't so salty. However, we quickly got used to the taste and enjoyed it. I had no particular expectation.

Q2. If you have tried other peanut butter brands before, how do you think Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter compared overall?

Much prefer it to Sunpat. Slightly nicer than Tesco value but on price Tesco wins

Q3. The RRP for 227g of Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter is £1.99 and 454g is £3.19. Would you be happy to pay this? If so, why. If not, why not?

To us that is quite a lot of money and we get through a lot of peanut butter. Maybe would buy if on offer or for a recipe which I thought it would suit.

Q4. How did you eat your peanut butter product? On its own? On toast? Did you use it in a recipe? If so, what did you cook?

I made a peanut butter and chocolate cheesecake with mine. Hopefully there is a pic attached. We also had it plain and will be having the remainder either with chocolate or breadsticks. I usually make peanut butter cookies or chocolate cups with peanut butter

Q5. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Whole Earth peanut butter to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would, it was tasty and not too sticky.

Forgot to mention up thread in the q and a that we love crunchy, but would never say no to smooth!

maddiemostmerry, that cheesecake looks delicious!

Uzma01 · 12/09/2013 20:09

I wasn't a tester, but have to say I totally prefer crunchy peanut butter.

MrsMcMorn · 12/09/2013 20:51

Definitely Crunchy! Although I use the whole earth smooth to make peanut butter biscuits.

janekirk · 12/09/2013 22:02

Has to be smooth, crunchy always get stuck between my teeth!

aristocat · 12/09/2013 22:35

We have never eaten PB before so it is all a new experience for us.

Q1. What did you/your DCs think of the consistency, texture and flavour of Whole Earth peanut butter? Was this similar/different to what you were expecting?
Sorry but neither myself, DH or DCs liked it. The consistency was good and thick but we didn't like the texture and the huge chunks of nut.
It tasted much more nuttier than I was expecting (I realise how daft that sounds!)

Q2. If you have tried other peanut butter brands before, how do you think Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter compared overall?
No previous knowledge of PB, but perhaps the smooth texture would have been better for us to try first.

Q3. The RRP for 227g of Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter is £1.99 and 454g is £3.19. Would you be happy to pay this? If so, why. If not, why not?
Yes, but only if we like the product. It is good to know there is no added sugar.

Q4. How did you eat your peanut butter product? On its own? On toast? Did you use it in a recipe? If so, what did you cook?
Initially we all had a spoonful out of the jar. I also tried it on a sandwich. None of us liked the texture though (sorry). Today myself and DD made Peanut Butter cookies. ((see photo)) They are rather good - crumbly with a delicate nutty taste.

Q5. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Whole Earth peanut butter to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
No, unfortunately not. I will definitely look out for other WE products. Thank you for the opportunity to taste this.

JParkson · 12/09/2013 23:09

I love peanut butter no matter the consistency! But if I had to choose, it'd be crunchy all the way!

I haven't bought peanut butter for well over a year, as the slimming plan I follow isn't very peanut-butter-friendly! (or at least, in the quantities I prefer it in... jar + tablespoon = sofa + glued-together mouth = happy JParkson!)

daisybrown · 12/09/2013 23:20

Smooth, especially nice when used to make a Cheesecake.

smileykc · 12/09/2013 23:21

Whole Earth used to be my favourite brand of peanut butter, but the last jar I bought tasted far too salty, so I haven't bought it since. I much prefer crunchy

VerySmallSqueak · 12/09/2013 23:26

Crunchy here.
Smooth gets stuck to the roof of your mouth.

Mumrobbo · 13/09/2013 06:45

I used to buy whole earth all the time but stopped when they started adding palm oil into it. I now go to my local health food store in Edinburgh and buy "real" peanut butter which is crushed and made by machine on the premises. There's also plenty of jars from other brands that are pure peanut butter and would never ever put palm oil into their product. I'm disappointed with the Whole Earth brand.

webster147 · 13/09/2013 07:56

Whole Earth is the only Peanut Butter we buy, it taste's more natural than others, we love smooth in our house.

KnottedAnchorChief · 13/09/2013 10:53

I am a non tester, but personally I prefer crunchy. DC's prefer smooth as they both have a 'thing' about bits. Everything - jam, yogurt, soup etc etc - has to be smooth!

supermam · 13/09/2013 11:20

Used to buy smooth, but now prefer crunchy. Probably linked to son's age (10), now I think about it.

SleeplessInBedfordshire · 13/09/2013 14:05

Not a tester but I prefer smooth peanut butter. Plus I'd only give smooth peanut butter on toast (rather than crunchy) to my 10 month old son.

Bert2e · 13/09/2013 15:15

Q1. What did you/your DCs think of the consistency, texture and flavour of Whole Earth peanut butter? Was this similar/different to what you were expecting? Texture was fine but the taste was rather bland - needed more salt.

Q2. If you have tried other peanut butter brands before, how do you think Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter compared overall? Didn't like this as much as other brands

Q3. The RRP for 227g of Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter is £1.99 and 454g is £3.19. Would you be happy to pay this? If so, why. If not, why not? No - my Lidl one is cheaper and I prefer the taste

Q4. How did you eat your peanut butter product? On its own? On toast? Did you use it in a recipe? If so, what did you cook? On ryvita crackers

Q5. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Whole Earth peanut butter to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not? No - I didn't like the taste!
