Non tester here - I prefer crunchy but DS only likes smooth.

goldenretriever · 13/09/2013 18:55

Non tester, but definitely crunchy all of the way.

dottyaboutstripes · 13/09/2013 19:00

Non tester but we love crunchy in this house!

Sparklingbrook · 13/09/2013 19:02

Q1. What did you/your DCs think of the consistency, texture and flavour of Whole Earth peanut butter? Was this similar/different to what you were expecting? I couldn't get the DC to even try it. I loved it. haven't had PB for ages.

Q2. If you have tried other peanut butter brands before, how do you think Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter compared overall? It was better than other brands I had tried previously.

Q3. The RRP for 227g of Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter is £1.99 and 454g is £3.19. Would you be happy to pay this? If so, why. If not, why not? I am not sure if I would spend the money on something only I would eat.

Q4. How did you eat your peanut butter product? On its own? On toast? Did you use it in a recipe? If so, what did you cook? On crackers, and on toast.

Q5. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Whole Earth peanut butter to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes, but don't chat much about peanut butter.

Vagndidit · 13/09/2013 21:40

Q1: We thought the texture was a nice blend of smooth with a bit of crunch, but not too crunchy that I would hesitate giving to a child. The flavor was nice, fresh and peanutty but not entirely savory (despite having no added sugar).

Q2:I definitely prefer this brand to others I've tried before. Just the right blend of flavor and texture, reminiscent of natural fresh-ground peanut butters I've tried in the past.

Q3: I think the price is very good for the quality of the product, certainly compared to store brand peanut butters at a similar price point.

Q4: We ate it on toast, bagels and in sneaky pb&j sandwiches for tea. I sometimes add peanut butters to stir fry dishes but have not (yet) tried tht with this product.

Q5: I would certainly recommend the product to friends and family if the topic should arise in conversation.

Q1. What did you/your DCs think of the consistency, texture and flavour of Whole Earth peanut butter? Was this similar/different to what you were expecting?
The children loved the flavour and consistency of the peanut butter. We normally get one with added sugar, so I was surprised they didn't comment on lack of sweetness.

Q2. If you have tried other peanut butter brands before, how do you think Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter compared overall?
It is a very good, high quality product. We normally use Waitrose own brand and have tried various others. The Whole Earth one is definitely superior in taste and quality.

Q3. The RRP for 227g of Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter is £1.99 and 454g is £3.19. Would you be happy to pay this? If so, why. If not, why not?
It is a touch expensive, but I have seen it on offer in other supermarkets, so may stock up on it when it is on offer. DH said he would preferably buy it and just use less than our normal one.

Q4. How did you eat your peanut butter product? On its own? On toast? Did you use it in a recipe? If so, what did you cook?
We tried it on toast (delicious). I also made some satay sauce to ahve with chicken (adding soy sauce and sweet chilli sauce) which was a big hit with DH and DCs. I made some chocolate-peanut butter crispies too, which disappeared rapidly from the fridge.

Q5. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Whole Earth peanut butter to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would definitely recommend, but would make them aware it is more expensive than normal.

I'd also like to comment on the palm oil content. A few people mentioned they wouldn't buy it as it contains palm oil. However, I looked at the Whole Earth website and was happy with the statement regarding commitment to sustainable production. It isn't viable to completely stop using palm oil in food production. Sustainable use will mean employment for local people and a commitment to preserve wildlife. I am happy to buy products which support both.

forcookssake · 14/09/2013 10:41

Crunchy for general eating purposes - tastes so wholesome and like it's doing you good! Definitely my favourite.
I do keep a jar of smooth for baking purposes... in the interests of full disclosure Wink

bryonywhisker · 14/09/2013 13:53

Q1. What did you/your DCs think of the consistency, texture and flavour of Whole Earth peanut butter? Was this similar/different to what you were expecting?
like there was no oil, like that it looked like nuts and not brown gloop
taste too bland, added a twist of sea salt and it brought out the flavour

Q2. If you have tried other peanut butter brands before, how do you think Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter compared overall?
colour and texture superior to any other brand I have tried

Q3. The RRP for 227g of Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter is £1.99 and 454g is £3.19. Would you be happy to pay this? If so, why. If not, why not?
As a treat but couldn't afford it as a cupboard staple

Q4. How did you eat your peanut butter product? On its own? On toast? Did you use it in a recipe? If so, what did you cook?
wholemeal bread on its own, toast with squished bananas and peanut butter, a spoon on vanilla ice cream
I also incorporated some into my autumn fruits crumble topping - roughly 4oz plain flour, 1oz rolled oats, 1oz wheat bran, 2oz soft marg, 1 heaped tbsp whole earth crunch peanut butter 2 tbsp sugar

please see photo of the delicious results

Q5. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Whole Earth peanut butter to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
probably as a luxury item

Q1. What did you/your DCs think of the consistency, texture and flavour of Whole Earth peanut butter? Was this similar/different to what you were expecting?
DSs loved it though I am not sure they actually realised it was any different from our usual brand until I told them. I personally felt it wasn't salty enough for my taste

Q2. If you have tried other peanut butter brands before, how do you think Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter compared overall?
It had a thicker texture than our usual brand and boys said it was more nutty!

Q3. The RRP for 227g of Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter is £1.99 and 454g is £3.19. Would you be happy to pay this? If so, why. If not, why not?
My kids get through jars of the stuff so on a tight budget could not say I would be persuaded to swap it for my usual supermarket own jars

Q4. How did you eat your peanut butter product? On its own? On toast? Did you use it in a recipe? If so, what did you cook?
I often make cookies with peanut butter and jam and use it as a cup cake frosting as well as adding it to curries and for satay. I had planned to use it in a recipe I had found for peanut butter cups this morning sadly my teenagers had got there first and eaten it all! Would be happy to do some cooking if Whole Earth would like to send me some more jars!!

Q5. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Whole Earth peanut butter to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Certainly to friends who don't have to stick to such a tight budget as myself would probably buy it again of I saw it on offer

ouryve · 14/09/2013 15:26

Muffins!

DS1 helped me to make these, this afternoon. Even though the end result is more bananary than nutty, he still couldn't be tempted to try some. Not even lick the spoon! DH, who isn't a big peanut fan, seemed to be pleasantly surprised, though, and DS2 cried all the time they were cooling down until it was safe for him to have one!

Crunchy peanut butter all the way on fresh bread

WorkInProgress · 14/09/2013 20:12

Hi, tester here and thank you very much for the peanut butter

Q1. What did you/your DCs think of the consistency, texture and flavour of Whole Earth peanut butter? Was this similar/different to what you were expecting?
Did a blind testing with DC's against sunpat - they preferred the sunpat. DH preferred the whole earth. similar to what I would have predicted, they are used to the sunpat.
Q2. If you have tried other peanut butter brands before, how do you think Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter compared overall?
I liked the fact it had no extra sugar, but disliked the fact it still had palm oil. Yes I know it is ethically sourced but just using it is creating a market. Would be better to avoid all together

Q3. The RRP for 227g of Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter is £1.99 and 454g is £3.19. Would you be happy to pay this? If so, why. If not, why not?
No, it is much too expensive. If my children preferred it I might buy it if it was on special but as they don't I would not buy it.
Q4. How did you eat your peanut butter product? On its own? On toast? Did you use it in a recipe? If so, what did you cook?
On toast and bread. And tried it tonight in a satay sauce, which was very very good ( but still not good enough to justify the extra cost)
Q5. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Whole Earth peanut butter to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
If someone asked me to recommend a really nice sugar free peanut butter I might, but it is unlikely to happen !

ld7675 · 14/09/2013 22:18

I prefer crunchy peanut butter.

kslatts · 15/09/2013 11:09

I prefer smooth

zippyrainbowbrite · 15/09/2013 11:37

Q1: lovely texture - nice big crunchy bits, nice consistency.

Q2: currently also have Waitrose own brand organic smooth PB on the go, which is good in sandwiches but not exact comparison as not crunchy). Tend to vary what we buy between crunchy and smooth, and organic own brand or organic Whole Earth, depending on where shopping.

Q3: RRP - fine, am happy to pay more for quality.

Q4: on toast, PB &J sandwiches, and my masterpiece... PB, the Whole Earth whipped choc spread and sliced bananas, made into a sandwich then dunked in egg and fried (like eggy bread) - I figure there's fruit and protein in it, so it's kind of good for you, right?! Grin

Q5: some concern about the use of palm oil in ingredients, but would recommend on taste basis.

helterskelter99 · 15/09/2013 12:04

Non tester
Crunchy although smooth for some cooking - damn I have both in the cupboard!

acsec · 15/09/2013 16:12

Q1. What did you/your DCs think of the consistency, texture and flavour of Whole Earth peanut butter? Was this similar/different to what you were expecting?
I liked the flavour and texture - I only tried a bit on a spoon, but DSS loved it on his toast! It was different as we usually buy smooth, but we liked it.

Q2. If you have tried other peanut butter brands before, how do you think Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter compared overall?
DSS says "It's nice, it's like the other one but with bits in". I liked it and found it to be as nice, if not tastier than our usual.

Q3. The RRP for 227g of Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter is £1.99 and 454g is £3.19. Would you be happy to pay this? If so, why. If not, why not?
I would probably buy it as a treat, not all the time.

Q4. How did you eat your peanut butter product? On its own? On toast? Did you use it in a recipe? If so, what did you cook?
DSS had some on toast and then I made peanut butter cookies. The recipe calls for smooth but they were just as yummy with crunchy and no one complained!

Q5. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Whole Earth peanut butter to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would and already have to my DM as she is a peanut butter lover :)

Theimpossiblegirl · 15/09/2013 17:31

I have already posted a review but came back to add more. Had people staying this weekend and they loved it! I had put peanut butter, jam etc. on the table at breakfast and the jar was commented on at once in an "Oooh this looks nice" way. The jar is now finished and all of the adults thought it was really good PB and are planning on buying it themselves.
:)

I cooked Crumpies (a crumpet/yorkie mix( and had mine with peanut butter and jam. They were yummy.

Tester here! I'm currently making some peanut butter and chocolate squares which smell amazing. I'll report back, with photos, later.

oricella · 15/09/2013 17:49

Consistency, texture and flavour of Whole Earth peanut butter: Have eaten it before, and somehow I think it tasted better before. Children not keen on the big chunks

Overall I found it OK - and improves once you get unused to the ones with added sugar

RRP is on the pricey side: I might buy on offer, but when using in cooking or baking (adding sugar) I don't think the price difference is justified

Ate it on rye bread, plus made a peanut sauce (mix about half a year, big clove of crushed garlic, teaspoon of Indonesian Sambal, 1/tsp of ground coreander, bit of cumin and kurkuma, Ketjap Manis and lemon. Usually make it with smooth peanut butter, but it was still yummie.

I don't really discuss peanutbutter in general conversation, but if someone were searching for a no-sugar alternative I might point them in the direction of whole earth

BornToFolk · 15/09/2013 18:39

Q1. What did you/your DCs think of the consistency, texture and flavour of Whole Earth peanut butter? Was this similar/different to what you were expecting?
I've tried Whole Earth before so knew what to expect. I really like the crunchiness of it, and the fact that it's too sweet. The consistency is thicker than other brands which makes it harder to spread but I don't mind too much.

Q2. If you have tried other peanut butter brands before, how do you think Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter compared overall?
The flavour is better and I really like that it's no added sugar

Q3. The RRP for 227g of Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter is £1.99 and 454g is £3.19. Would you be happy to pay this? If so, why. If not, why not?

I wish I could buy it all the time but I don't feel I can justify it when I can buy jars of other brands from B&M Bargains for less than £1. I do quite often buy Whole Earth when it's on offer though. DS frequently has peanut butter sandwiches for lunch so I'd really prefer him to have a no added sugar brand

Q4. How did you eat your peanut butter product? On its own? On toast? Did you use it in a recipe? If so, what did you cook?
On a bagel with chopped banana. This is my favourite way to eat peanut butter! I also like it with slices of apple, as does DS.
We also made peanut butter and chocolate slices and there's hopefully a photo attached! They were divine...but really should be as they contain vast amounts of butter as well as sugar and condensed milk. Totally delicious though!

Q5. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Whole Earth peanut butter to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yeah, definitely. Like I say, if I could afford it, I'd buy it all the time myself.

Argh, sorry! Two posts and no photo. The photo actually wasn't all that great but they taste better than they look

MegGriffin · 15/09/2013 18:53

Q1. What did you/your DCs think of the consistency, texture and flavour of Whole Earth peanut butter? Was this similar/different to what you were expecting?

The texture seemed dryer and less sweet that our usual peanut butter.

Q2. If you have tried other peanut butter brands before, how do you think Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter compared overall?

It was different to others we have tried and doesn't compare. It was definitely of a better standard.

Q3. The RRP for 227g of Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter is £1.99 and 454g is £3.19. Would you be happy to pay this? If so, why. If not, why not?

Our usual brand is cheaper and we would probably only spend a bit more if it was on offer/bogof.

Q4. How did you eat your peanut butter product? On its own? On toast? Did you use it in a recipe? If so, what did you cook?

We ate it on toast which is how we always have our peanut butter.

Q5. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Whole Earth peanut butter to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

We might suggest we had tried it in conversation and that it was of a good quality.

HeathcliffeItsMe · 15/09/2013 19:23

Q1. What did you/your DCs think of the consistency, texture and flavour of Whole Earth peanut butter? Was this similar/different to what you were expecting?
I really liked the consistency and texture of it, ticker than our usual brand. Taste was lovely, more nutty and less sweet than the usual brand we get (Morrisons value). Ds1 preferred our usual sweeter brand, ds2 really liked it and would eat it by the spoon if he could.

Q2. If you have tried other peanut butter brands before, how do you think Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter compared overall? It tastes more nutty and less sweet.

Q3. The RRP for 227g of Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter is £1.99 and 454g is £3.19. Would you be happy to pay this? If so, why. If not, why not? price seems reasonable, I would buy at this price, although slightly cheaper would be preferred. One jar lasts us quite well though, if we got through it faster I would probably be less likely to buy at that price.

Q4. How did you eat your peanut butter product? On its own? On toast? Did you use it in a recipe? If so, what did you cook? We ate it on its own Blush, on toast and also in a red thai curry. I hadn't had peanut butter in a curry before, it was really nice, very popular with everyone and we would definately have it again.

Q5. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Whole Earth peanut butter to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes, I would mention it was nice, as we enjoyed it and seemed less sugary than others we had tried.

Thank you for the peanut butter!
