My son prefers smooth because he likes to dip crunchy things into the peanut butter (in a bowl!) like breadsticks or carrots.

wavesandsmiles · 11/09/2013 22:12

I love crunchy peanut butter as do DS1 and DD. However, we prefer smooth when combining it with banana on toast. Yum!

whatagreatname · 11/09/2013 22:16

I love the crunchy best

I always thought I hated peanut butter having tried sun pat as a child. I tried Whole Earth and LOVED it! Crunchy is my secret addiction. Wink

firawla · 11/09/2013 22:35

Non tester I like crunchy!

WhoPutThatThere · 11/09/2013 23:07

non tester:
used to be crunchy all the way but I am a total convert to smooth after we had to switch because of DD (had to put her on high calorie foods during weaning because of poor weight gain). It's also better for using in smoothies (peanut butter and frozen banana smoothies - amaze!)
That said, DS prefers crunchy so we have a jar of each in the cupboard.

divasparkle21 · 11/09/2013 23:21

Not a tester but a long time consumer of Whole Earth PB. My son likes both creamy and crunchy and I like the crunchy! I often make PB cookies and PB and banana sandwiches on Sunflower Seed Bread is a great after school snack! Love to use it for satay sauce too.

Q1. What did you/your DCs think of the consistency, texture and flavour of Whole Earth peanut butter? Was this similar/different to what you were expecting?

It is quite dry but lovely and crunchy. It is very nutty (I know!) in flavour.

Q2. If you have tried other peanut butter brands before, how do you think Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter compared overall?

It is pleasant but not as good as the one we usually use.

Q3. The RRP for 227g of Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter is £1.99 and 454g is £3.19. Would you be happy to pay this? If so, why. If not, why not?

No. We usually have supermarket value peanut butter which is really really good, although sweetened, and has no palm oil. It costs a quarter of the price so I won't be changing.

Q4. How did you eat your peanut butter product? On its own? On toast? Did you use it in a recipe? If so, what did you cook?

We had some on toast and some on oatcakes. And DD and DH had some on spoons! I'd use it for cooking savoury recipes because it's unsweetened.

Q5. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Whole Earth peanut butter to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would recommend it for being unsweetened and very nutty but I'm not convinced it's worth paying the extra if cost is a concern. We eat a heck of a lot of it though!

Thanks for letting us try it. It is very nice but if I'm honest I prefer Tesco value, which is sweetened but vastly cheaper. I'd definitely try other products in this range though.

Springcleanish · 12/09/2013 05:34

Non-tester, definitely crunchy, smooth is bleughhhh

Faithless12 · 12/09/2013 07:38

Non-teste I love both crunchy and smooth. Smooth for PB and banana smoothies and for PB and J sandwiches.

glorious · 12/09/2013 08:13

Gotta be crunchy Grin

VileWoman · 12/09/2013 08:20

Non-tester. I hate the stuff personally (worked in the kitchen of an American summer camp and had to make hundreds of PBJs a day, it scarred me for life!) but have a family of addicts who all like smooth. It was a food we introduced early in weaning so smooth was the way to go then. And peanut butter is particularly good for dairy and egg allergic DS.

HormonalHousewife · 12/09/2013 10:24

Non testing household here

Its only ever Whole earth Crunchy in our house.

Q1. What did you/your DCs think of the consistency, texture and flavour of Whole Earth peanut butter? Was this similar/different to what you were expecting?

The DCs and I both liked it. It was spreadable but had lots of bits of nut still in it. The flavour was of freshly squished peanuts and best of all, it wasn't too sweet or too salty. It was better than I expected.

Q2. If you have tried other peanut butter brands before, how do you think Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter compared overall?

I think this peanut butter compares well with other brands. It tasted and looked like a good quality product.

Q3. The RRP for 227g of Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter is £1.99 and 454g is £3.19. Would you be happy to pay this? If so, why. If not, why not?

In isolation, those don't seem like unreasonable prices. However, I am very cost conscious & if there are special promotions on in the supermarket, then I would probably go for a cheaper option.

Q4. How did you eat your peanut butter product? On its own? On toast? Did you use it in a recipe? If so, what did you cook?

We ate the Whole Earth on corn cakes, on toast, on biscuits and on bread. I didn't cook with it and probably wouldn't, as the recipes I have using peanut butter, all ask for the smooth variety.

Q5. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Whole Earth peanut butter to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

In the unlikely event of peanut butter coming up in conversation, I would say to anyone that this was a good brand and that I'd enjoyed eating it.

Q1. What did you/your DCs think of the consistency, texture and flavour of Whole Earth peanut butter? Was this similar/different to what you were expecting?

DC2 was put off by the nuts. We usually eat crunchy peanut butter, so I have no idea what she thought she was eating. I liked the consistency. It wasn't homogenised like the other brands. It was noticeably less sweet.

Q2. If you have tried other peanut butter brands before, how do you think Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter compared overall?

Well. More natural. I think the children prefer the sweeter brands, as they are used to them.

Q3. The RRP for 227g of Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter is £1.99 and 454g is £3.19. Would you be happy to pay this? If so, why. If not, why not?

It is slightly more expensive than other brands. i would be keen to use this for cooking, as it is less sweet, and for my youngest who isn't used to sweet peanut butter. I wouldn't use it for daily sandwiches due to the higher cost. I would buy it on promotion.

Q4. How did you eat your peanut butter product? On its own? On toast? Did you use it in a recipe? If so, what did you cook?
On it's own, in sandwiches and in peanut butter cookies. I would have made soup but I didn't fancy photographing it.

Q5. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Whole Earth peanut butter to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

An unlikely conversation, but yes.

We buy Whole Earth peanut butter already.

Crunchy all the way!

daisychicken · 12/09/2013 13:05

Non tester: we all prefer crunchy PB - yummy spread on celery for a low carb snack!

MoogDroog · 12/09/2013 13:29

My peanut butter hasn't arrived yet. Should I be worried??? Sad

DS (the worlds fussiest eater) was fully on board to try it and keeps asking if the postman has brought his peanut butter yet. Sad Sad

I'm going to have to buy some aren't I?

MummyBtothree · 12/09/2013 13:56
  1. We all liked the texture and consistency, although it is very different to other peanut butter and took some getting used to.

  2. This peanut butter is very different to what we are used to, less sweet and salty and less processed, really really delicious!!.

  3. Money is quite tight for us at the moment but as it is healthier, I think I would choose this one from now on.

  4. At the moment we have only tried it on hot buttered toast and on a spoon straight from the jar but we cant get enough of it!. Will do some baking with it if there is any left!.

  5. If it came up in conversation, I would definitely recommend this as it is healthier and so much tastier.

ouryve · 12/09/2013 14:14

Q1. What did you/your DCs think of the consistency, texture and flavour of Whole Earth peanut butter? Was this similar/different to what you were expecting?

We've had whole earth peanut butter before, but usually buy the smooth, as DS2 picks out all the bits of nut and ends up with it in his hair and everywhere. I love that it's not sweet - sweet peanuts are an abomination. After years of only eating smooth PB, the crunchy is a refreshing change. The bits of peanut are properly crunchy, rather than hard, and the rest of it is much lighter in texture than smooth PB usually is.

Q2. If you have tried other peanut butter brands before, how do you think Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter compared overall?

We much prefer this, because it's not sweet. There's another brand that we sometimes get that isn't sweet, but i definitely prefer the flavour of the Whole Earth PB, as the nuts taste more toasted. I love peanuts, but don't much like their raw flavour.

Q3. The RRP for 227g of Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter is £1.99 and 454g is £3.19. Would you be happy to pay this? If so, why. If not, why not?

We're happy to pay this, but would most likely stock up if there's an offer on.

Q4. How did you eat your peanut butter product? On its own? On toast? Did you use it in a recipe? If so, what did you cook?

So far, I've eaten it straight off the spoon and I've cooked with it. I normally have PB on toast, or in a sandwich with salad, but I decided that I should try being more adventurous. I've just had some of this for lunch (only I omitted the mange tout, which make me gag and added some cooked chicken, which needed using up. I slipped with the fish sauce, mind, and I'm thirsty, now!)

Q5. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Whole Earth peanut butter to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Most definitely. I already have done. Like others, though, I would prefer if something other than palm oil, even than "sustainable" palm oil, was used as a stabiliser.

Not a tester but we get the smooth Whole Earth peanut butter at home - like the fact it doesn't contain "nasties". Smooth mainly because I find it easier to spread but thinking of getting the crunchy version for some experimental baking!!

StellaMarie · 12/09/2013 16:07

Non tester - crunchy PB is a winner in this house. Smooth is claggy and gets stuck on the roof of your mouth!

CelticPromise · 12/09/2013 16:11

I prefer crunchy, and buy it sometimes for cooking but I usually buy smooth for DS. I suppose I could try him on crunchy now.

Geniene · 12/09/2013 16:14

Ooh I prefer crunchy and my little ones seem to aswell.
