Smooth with chocolate spread. Crunchy on its own!

Definitely crunchy, although it does involve picking bits out of your teeth!

I love the crunchy on toast, but tend to buy smooth because you cam spread it thinner (wright conscious)!

Crunchy Smile

I had crunchy peanut butter on granary toast for breakfast today and didn't feel peckish at all all morning like I do when I have my usual cereal, and it was deliciousGrin

I prefer crunchy peanut butter as the texture gives it that added dimension. I always have peanut butter on toast for breakfast and it keeps me full till dinner time, on days that I don't have this my stomach starts rumbling loudly about 10 AM!

Another vote for crunchy & we usually have Whole Earth which is yummy. Makes me think haven't had peanut butter for ages!

Oh dear it has to be crunchy - the smooth stuff just sticks to the roof of your mouth .... yuk!

Crunchy generally. The crunch gives you an added dimension to the taste.

Q1. What did you/your DCs think of the consistency, texture and flavour of Whole Earth peanut butter? Was this similar/different to what you were expecting?
Was very different to normal peanut butter. Had bits of peanut skin in which put kids off a bit, but they did like it on toast. I liked it. Husband likes the crunchy but me and kids prefer smooth.

Q2. If you have tried other peanut butter brands before, how do you think Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter compared overall?
Much better. Not nearly as sweet. Had normal peanut butter in cupboard. Could really notice the difference in sweetness.

Q3. The RRP for 227g of Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter is £1.99 and 454g is £3.19. Would you be happy to pay this? If so, why. If not, why not?
Yes. lasts a long time. Much better for you than cheaper peanut butter, although still contains palm oil and doesn't say it's sustainable, like some products do and i would expect a product like this to be also.

Q4. How did you eat your peanut butter product? On its own? On toast? Did you use it in a recipe? If so, what did you cook?
On toast with sliced bananas, also put a teaspoon into a stir fry which gave it lovely nutty taste, but will try peanut butter cookies when I have the chance.

Q5. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Whole Earth peanut butter to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes. taste, few ingredients. sugar free.

Crunchy all the way!

Hot oatmeal and hot berries with cold Greek yoghurt and crunchy peanutbutter. Heaven.

LittleMilla · 11/09/2013 20:07

Crunchy - and my 2.4 year old son has taken to picking off every single bit of nut before eating his toast. So I guess we end up with both!?

I am a tester.

Just going to try it now:

Method of eating: licked off spoon.

Good points: lovely large crunchy bits. Nice amount of salt.
Bad points: slight aftertaste of peanut skin. Gets less the more you eat.

Conclusion: better in recipes than off spoon, but really nice.

Price: dearer than I usually buy, but would buy in preference to supermarket version when on offer.

Non tester, smooth here for me and DC please. DH likes crunchy however (no taste!)

Sorry me again, I forgot the questions while typing and eating.

I liked the texture and consistency.

I thought it compared well with some other brands, which can be a bit greasy.

It is a bit on the expensive side.

If it came up, I would say I liked it. I am not sure I would go so far as to recommend it.

I'm not a tester, but i definitely prefer crunchy to smooth, a bit of texture to food is always good!

Report
Lomaamina · 11/09/2013 20:16

Non-tester but bought it to try. I love the crunchy version and the fact that it has no sugar (ugh sweet peanut butter is an abomination). The consistency is better than others I've bought, which can be oily or grainy, so a top buy for me, except for the concerns over palm oil. Your packaging doesn't state the source of the palm oil. It would be helpful if it did.

Price is ok. I'd go for the smaller size even though pricer per gram, as I'm the only one in the family who eats the stuff.

Tester here :

Q1. What did you/your DCs think of the consistency, texture and flavour of Whole Earth peanut butter? Was this similar/different to what you were expecting?

We ( me and 2x 10 yo DC) thought it tasted great. Not at all cloying, salty rather than sweet and was just as we were expecting

Q2. If you have tried other peanut butter brands before, how do you think Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter compared overall?

We normally eat Waitrose own brand Wholenut Peanut Butter Crunchy 334 g. It tasted as salty but with bigger peanut lumps and was a lighter colour. I have had the misfortune to try Sunpat smooth and Skippy Smooth. All smooth peanut butters are like sugary glue that glues your jaw shut, and frankly should be banned from the shelves on both taste and health grounds. It is a shame it uses Palm Oil, which I would prefer not to use, but at the moment can't afford to pay premium prices for products that do not use it.

Q3. The RRP for 227g of Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter is £1.99 and 454g is £3.19. Would you be happy to pay this? If so, why. If not, why not?

I thought it was a bit topside, if I am honest. I pay £1.50 ish for 340g Waitrose own brand from Ocado. I liked the product but if I am being brutally honest would only buy it if it were on offer. I would certainly struggle to pay top dollar for a product containing Palm Oil
Q4. How did you eat your peanut butter product? On its own? On toast? Did you use it in a recipe? If so, what did you cook?

I would have loved to have used it on my regular Jamie Oliver Satay Chicken recipe, but 2 x breakfasts for us all, spread on wholemeal toast with strawberries ( my daughter), and bananas on top ( me and my son), plus one after school sandwich round, finished off the fairly small pot. My current Waitrose brand makes a great crunch sauce, so I am sure the exta peanut bits in this would make it super delish

Q5. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Whole Earth peanut butter to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Peanut butter wars come up regularly. My sister and her children will not tolerate the crunchy PB and I absolutely abhorr the sweet wallpaper paste/glue that they eat for breakfast, aka Skippy Smooth.
I am a huge advocate of Wholenut Crunchy and will continue to recommend it. I would recommend Whole Earth heartily if if you can cope with the price, and the palm oil, which I was disappointed to see. Why not peanut or vegetable oil?

Non-tester. Prefer crunchy, and tend to buy Whole Earth but I would always choose crunchy over smooth no matter the brand. DH hates peanut butter and whole family has eczema and hayfever so have not tried DC with it yet (age 3 and 6) as wary of allergic reactions.

I tend to eat it spread on toast or bagels, either on its own or with Nutella.

Received my tester jar yesterday. Thank you!

Q1. What did you/your DCs think of the consistency, texture and flavour of Whole Earth peanut butter? Was this similar/different to what you were expecting?

It was thicker in consistency and didn't taste as sweet as the normal one that we have.

Q2. If you have tried other peanut butter brands before, how do you think Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter compared overall?

I think it is probably good if you find regular peanut butter too sweet. Think I need to further taste test tomorrow for breakfast!!!

Q3. The RRP for 227g of Whole Earth Crunchy Original peanut butter is £1.99 and 454g is £3.19. Would you be happy to pay this? If so, why. If not, why not?

Bit pricey but I think it would probably last longer as it didn't spread as easily so I think you would use less.

Q4. How did you eat your peanut butter product? On its own? On toast? Did you use it in a recipe? If so, what did you cook?

I tried it this morning on a couple of pieces of toasted French Boule! Yummy!

Q5. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Whole Earth peanut butter to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I think it is an acquired taste - perhaps a good one if introducing children to peanut better as it is less sweet. So yes I would recommend it as an alternative to regular supermarket branded peanut butter.
