All you'd need to do is copy and paste what you write to OvO, Sticking and State into a PM to me too...I wouldn't mind Wink

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

Was fairly simple to register - although I too deleted my FB connection - but I did find it a bit difficult to work out exactly how to connect to my TV. We don't have a Wii or Xbox atm, nor Apple TV and despite having a internet ready TV, it does not support Netflix. I ended up connecting the laptop to the TV which worked ok but is not ideal.

There was not a lot of info on Netflix about how to do this, I had to google.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

The selection of films is not really up to date, but what I do like is that there are a few proper "Classics", which they have not yet seen. I need the PC for work though, and since it is the only way to connect to Netflix, they haven't really watched much.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

Content, as above. I actually watched Educating Rita yesterday, which I have never seen and probably would not have bought or borrowed from a videothek. Having missed a lot of films in the cinema while the kids were younger, it is good to catch up on older films. I suspect though that the novelty would wear off, and I would be looking for more current films.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

Quite easily. No problems there.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

I might. My brother actually recommended it to me, not knowing that I was doing this trial. I think that the available films would be an issue, and the connection.

I have recently bought a Sony TV and they work with LoveFilms. Our other TV is in storage atm, but it is a Samsung, which offers both LoveFilms and Netflix. I would hope that at some point the companies will get their act together and offer both LoveFilm and Netflix on their Internet TVs. At the end of the day, I will go for the one that is most convenient.

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

Simple enough to sign up for Netflix but I don't like the push towards putting everything through Facebook. Yes I use FB and I like it for what I use it for but I don't want all my friends knowing I just watched a film when I'm meant to be working!!! I signed up using Paypal and this caused a slight glitch but I spoke to a charming american lady with a great southern drawl who talked me through the process and sorted everything out.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

I thought this was OK, but more suited to younger children. Better for when the nephews/nieces come round. My son enjoyed the films more than the TV shows.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

Personally I thought it was a bit dated, there were some more recent things available but not much. In order for me to carry on with the subscription I would need to know that newer shows & films were available.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

Navigation is not a problem, however, I would like the ability to be able to put a passcode or something similar to prevent children selecting films which I feel are not suitable. If there was this feature it wasn't obvious to me and I felt they could easily select a 15/18 which I would not want them watching.
On the plus side - Subtitling is available :) this is a big bonus in our house where some of us are hearing aid wearers. Again though this feature could have been highlighted better to make it more obvious it was available.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Not sure, I'd need more convincing that it is actually worth the money given that the content seems dated.

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

Setup was pretty easy and straight forward.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

My three-year old daughter has got fixated on Dora the Explorer and has been steadily watching her way through all the episodes. She is thoroughly enjoying them and it's great to have so many different episodes, rather than seeing the same ones over and over on a DVD. I can see that there are lots of other things she'd like- Rugrats, Bob the Builder, Thomas and Friends, Angelina Ballerina. Enough to keep her happy fo a long time! I think she's a bit young for most of the films, but I can see that they would appeal to slightly older children.

As for what she'd like that's not on there- Octonauts, Ben and Holly, Something Special, Show Me, Show Me.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

DH has found lots of things to watch, some of which he wasn't aware of before- American TV dramas like Weeds. He really likes the recommendations system as it has helped him to find things. He has watched quite a few films as well, re-watching old favourites and some he hadn't seen before. He has really enjoyed having access to Netflix.

I haven't actually used it that much myself, but I'm not into TV/films so much and don't seem to find the time. I have watched a couple of films, and there are some TV series I'd put on if I ever had time to sit down!

We both agree that we'd like to see newer films, more recent releases.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

Very easy. We also use Lovefilm and we've found that Netflix is far better in terms of finding things. The recommendations system is really good, so once we've watched a film you can easily find other similar things. DH was impressed with the 'themes' assigned to the films, so a film isn't just adventure it's wacky adventure, dark adventure and so on.

We were also very impressed by the way series are organised so that you can see a whole series and tell instantly which ones you have watched. We also liked the way the next episode in a series plays automatically (very easy to put a series on for our daughter and then go back to bed for a while- TV as babysitter, great!). However, there should also be a way of turning this off, when you first play the episode, this may be possible but I'm not sure how.

The only thing that we would change is to allow for different 'taste profiles' within the same account, as DH, DD and I have very different taste. If you could create separate lists, we could find our own favourites even more easily. DH loves action thrillers and is not particularly interested in recommendations for Barney Play School, and so on.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Dh says 'Absolutely, already have done.' We'll be keeping the account for a while, at least until we start to run out of new things to watch. We don't have a TV, so we've been doing all our viewing via the internet or DVDs for some time now, and Netflix fits really well into that. It's so convenient to have so many TV series/films available instantly, there's always something to watch. I can start watching something and decide I don't like it without having wasted money for a rental or on a DVD.

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?
It was very easy to set up on the laptop but we had trouble with the wii. The FAQ explaining how to do it isn't working (Just says 'click here for further information' but it's not clickable) so we ended up Googling to find out. Once we knew what to do it was easy.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?
My dc loved the early Dr Who episodes and love the novelty of being able to choose their own films instantly.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?
To be honest I think the content's weak. I like the idea of netflix but without more content we're going to run out of things to watch very quickly. I'd like to see more old classics, both tv and film. I loved having A Bit of Fry and Laurie on there. I'd also like to see some sort of top up service to buy premium new (or newer) release films.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?
Navigating is pretty easy.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
I'd recommend they wait and see how netflix improves and expands. It's a great idea so I hope the content is expanded.

Blatherskite · 02/04/2012 09:06

Finally got round to trying Netflix on the TV and it doesn't work Sad It's only a year old and works with other TV-through-the-internet providers so that was rather disappointing.

It does put me off to be honest as I'd rather watch TV sat on my comfy sofa on my huge TV than perched on the computer chair watching on a monitor. Makes it harder for the children to watch something together too.

lagoonhaze · 02/04/2012 09:12

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

Very easy to sign up- agree about the facebook sharing. Dont like that.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

We have different ages so finding something without an arguement is always a challenge so I choose alot of the time. Disney would always be appreciated.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

More recent releases! We dont get to go out so if paying for the service would expect to not need to hire or buy DVDs too.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

I found it quite difficult to be honest. Would have liked an a - z index

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would recommend the trial to see if it suited them but couldnt say it was fantastic value as its so personal

insanityscratching · 02/04/2012 09:27

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?
Easy to sign up but really don't like the link with Facebook and it's not easy to find the link to sign up independently of Facebook

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?
Dd has a tendency to be a telly addict so she could always find something to watch tbh however limited the choice.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?
We're not big TV watchers tbh so much of what's on we haven't seen anyway so for us there is plenty of choice. I'd imagine that I'd want newer releases though if I was a big TV watcher.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?
Not too bad but I'd like an A to Z index to scroll through

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

I'd recommend the trial and have done to family, I'm not sure how many would want to sign up though. I won't be because we wouldn't use it enough to justify cost and dd watches TV/dvd's enough as it is .

nottersonmywatch · 02/04/2012 15:01

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

The process was ok. I found it a bit irritating that everything is linked to social networking these days. I don't particularly feel the need to share my every move with the rest of the world. However, this was only on my phone. I could not, no matter what I did, work out how to get the app onto my Smart TV - which was the whole point of signing up, for me. To that end, I cancelled my membership just two weeks into the trial, as I was sure that I didn't want to continue after the month was up.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

They thought it was ok, but we do have a full Sky package so they are a bit spoilt in terms of access to programming.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

The films were ok, there were a couple of things that I watched. However, having cancelled my membership, I didn't probably get the most out of it.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

Navigating round was ok. Having used 4OD, ITV Player and iPlayer - there was nothing difficult to understand.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Probably not. The whole point for me was to have been able to watch it on my Samsung Smart TV. LoveFilm is already there as an app - why is Netflix not? My computer is not in the same room as this TV, and the text is too small on the website for me to have been able to follow any instructions using my phone.

Its a shame, as I had high hopes for this, but, until you make it easier to access on Smart TVs, I won't be signing up I'm afraid.

NoSleepTonight · 03/04/2012 08:37

Had our first Netflix problem last night, it kept crashing on my laptop, so I gave up after around 15 minutes & hid in the bath instead.
I personally don't know if it was me or them, but my dh who's a computer engineer reckoned it seemed to be their end, servers or something.
Hopefully it will all be running smoothly tonight as I have a feeling I will be awake alot of the night & in need of distraction - it's my driving test tomorrow!

Bohica · 03/04/2012 13:12

NoSleep I haven't been able to get on at all today, I just get a loading screen. I've tried on laptop and ipad, very annoying because I want to clean out my wardrobe and watch cold feet!!

I wouldn't pay for a service like this Sad

Questions:
Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?
Hated the link to Facebook. I don't want to know what other people are watching and I'm pretty certain they couldn't give a monkeys that my son has just watched Thomas the Tank Engine again. I set it up on the Wii and it was OK to set up.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?
He loved the programmes on there and would spend all day every day watching them. He loved the Thomas film.
Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?
Not a lot of new films, it wouldn't replace Lovefilm or Apple TV in our house but I did like the amount of TV on there.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?
Easy to navigate around.
Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
I probably wouldn't recommend until they get some decent film content on there. It is good for kids TV but then you can get that for nothing practically 24 hrs a day for nothing with freeveiw channels (my son isn't that picky about what he watches).

I was disappointed with the buffering (is that the technical name for it??) The programmes kept stopping and loading. We have super dooper high speed wireless stuff that keeps everything else moving along so it was a bit disappointing to have to keep waiting.

befuzzled · 03/04/2012 20:31

Ok - I've worked out how to get the US Netflix on my laptop - and you're right, it's way better. I'd suggest they need to get the licencing deals etc done to bring the UK content up to similar if they want to keep UK viewers and stop them drifting back to Lovefilm.

How to get it on my TV though? Has anyone worked this out?

Sarayu · 04/04/2012 11:43

Just about to pm all those who coughed. Only logged back in today. I've figured it out on my xbox but not laptop. I'm sure a quick google will fix that

gazzalw · 04/04/2012 12:14

Just to say that as background information we have Virginmedia (a basic package) and still don't really take full advantage of all the extra channels to which we have access. For that reason I could not really see why we would need Netflix too, but DS in particular was keen to try it out, and as it's not costing us anything this month curiosity got the better of us!

Also, with the recent glorious weather which kept the children out and about playing in parks for longer than usual, have to say that our TV watching patterns have been atypical for this time of the year.

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?
Didn't find it complicated at all although slightly flummoxed that it seemed to want you to sign up via Facebook - but did it via email in the end ;-). It was all quick and painless!

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?
It has to be said that the children have enjoyed and taken advantage of Netflix a lot more than we have! DD has enjoyed watching some old favourites, like Barney, particularly when Virginmedia access to CBBC and CBeebies has been dodgy (as has happened around here in the run up to switchover day). DS, who's 11, has enjoyed semi-illicitly watching South Park (which I'm ashamed to say I introduced him to a year or so ago!).
What we would like would be more access to yesteryear series of classic children's novels etc...... We do still do classic novels for children in this house (even if it's for bedtime stories)and there are loads ofreally good 1970s/1980s/1990s series out there which would be good for enjoyment and possibly for boosting KS1/KS2/KS3 history/literacy etc....

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

Have to say that we haven't felt compelled to watch anything yet. We've had a quick look through and there's been nothing that's jumped out of us that we've really felt excited enough to sit down and watch.

DW liked some of the classic film content, some of which she hasn't seen - like Taxi Driver and some of the horror genre that she would watch with me but not on her own! But by the time she's finished doing bedtime stories in the evening at 8.00 ish, she's tired and usually wouldn't concentrate on anything for more than an hour or so before a 10.00 pm bedtime. So she actually hasn't got round to watching any of the films.

I might rewatch some of the comedy content but I have quite an extensive collection of DVDs and tend to revisit those of a night once DW has gone to bed.

Will try to focus over the Easter weekend when I'm off work and have some more time on my hands for watching TV.

Oh, DW said she'd love to see classic series of yesteryear including things like ER, Buffy and maybe shows that she didn't watch at all first time around but would be curious to watch now that the children are older and she has a bit more time. She feels that since she had the children there are signficant gaps in her TV series knowledge base!

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

No problem for any of us. DW particularly liked that with the kids' films etc...you could pause them and then pick up where you left off next time you logged in.....

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Not in its currrent form. Would want to see a lot of more up-to-date film content to be attractive to us as a family. Think it might be a better option for singletons or empty-nesters who have a bit more time on their hand to be quite honest. Don't think with my four hour commute and the children we really fully have time to do it justice or justify the extra cost

I will try to add a bit on my views on content when I have a bit more free time to enjoy the opportunity offered by Neflix

Sarayu · 04/04/2012 12:21

I've figured out the laptop. Pm me if you need info x

I am a but peeved that you have to give detailed reasons why you have quit Netflix and then almost immediately get s survey to fill in. I can't comment as I couldn't well flipping use the service!

Codandchops · 05/04/2012 15:58

Waiting for God is on there - old but fabulous series.

exDH is saying it is all too limited and to an extent I agree with him.

HammeringBird · 05/04/2012 19:18

Interesting to read all this. We recently signed up to Netflix and then immediately unsubscribed. Ages ago, we had recorded an American series, 'The Event', but when we finally got round to watching it we discovered that we'd somehow failed to record the final episode. It was 22 episodes long. So we'd invested almost 21 viewing hours only to discover that we couldn't see how it ended.

Cue much frantic searching online, with search results indicating we could find the missing episode on Netflix.

Joining was fairly straightforward, though security warnings made us a bit nervous. However, the show wasn't available through Netflix. So we were quite frustrated and annoyed that we'd been directed there in the first place. Presumably Netflix uses SEO and Google was picking up on the word 'episode' in our search. But i think it's very misleading to suggest that people can find something on the site that isn't actually there.

Anyway, after all this, we thought we might as well look for something else to watch and were very disappointed. The shows and films were mmuch less recent than we expected. We finally found something we wanted to watch only to click to download abs be told the service wouldn't work on our mac laptop, which is at least 6 years old. Aargh!

Our pc is in my husband's office and watching films up there wouldn't be comfy. Our tv doesn't have anything for us to access Netflix through it. So we just cancelled immediately.

We wouldn't recommend it.

Fortunately, we managed to track down our missing episode via some friends with a fancy streaming service.

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?
It was very efficient.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?
They have watched 2 films - and enjoyed them - I haven't given them too much access to it as I was quite fuming about the parental restrictions tbh.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?
I thought evrything was quite dated really - bit of a shame.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?
It was ok.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
Definitely not. I do not like the fact that I had to restrict all films on the website - I would like to watch older content and them watch younger content - but this isn;t possible without changing the settings. perhaps a PIN entry on each film over your stipulated setting.

Disappointed really.

HoneyBunnyDragon · 06/04/2012 00:23

oh bloody hell Chaos did we have to say nice stuff to win the t.v?
bollocks

StickingLaboutin · 06/04/2012 09:34

I think some of the problems arise because of the different access points available to Netflix. Here are my views:

Internet TV (Sony)- doesn't work. Only lovefilm comes up.

Internet TV (Samsung) - works fine. I'm able to restrict viewing to kids or adults which is a great feature and should work across all devices.

iPhone - works well but cannot restrict access so no good for kids. Seemed to remember where I was in a series much better than on TV.

iPad - as phone but with a different experience to phone. This was weird as I had to learn it again.

PS3 - really easy to access through. I loved the simplicity of the controls.

Wii - didn't bother to set up as had enough access points. Cannot comment.

I think if Netflix could fix or align some of these issues it would be a great product. Personally I think there is enough on there to keep the kids busy and a few series that I haven't watched so am working through these. However, having seen the US content I am mighty peeved that we are given what we have. I know we have licensing issues with the beeb etc but seriously we have half of what is available to the US market.

:)

Sorry for coming so late to the party, but here's my tuppenceworth:

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

I thought it was relatively easy. I signed up online, and the only issue I had was the facebook link, but I bypassed that bit.
Sign up was quick, so the only thing I wouks change would be to opt in to Facebook, rather than opt out. We wanted to watch on our tv, so

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

The children, almost 10, almost 5 and 3.5 love it, but it has just given them something else to bicker over Hmm. DS1 loves all the superhero and Japanese stuff, DD has been working her way through all the episodes of Charlie & Lola and Rugrats, and DS2 has been watching lots of films and Spiderman.
They would like to see more up to date films, including Disney, and maybe things like Ben & Holly, Peppa, and Shaun the Sheep. I've loved watching things like The Herbs and Paddington and would like to see more "retro" things, like The Clangers, Rhubarb & Custard etc.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

Lots of content, but not much up to date stuff, and we felt the film selection is pretty poor, like getting to the video shop at 10pm on a Friday to find all the good stuff already out on loan. There were some we hadn't seen before, so watched them, but really we hadn't seen them before because either we didn't fancy them, or the reviews were bad!
Some of the tv series were ones we had missed, or started watching much later, so fibding the earlier series was good. Later series would be useful though. I really enjoyed watching Marchlands as I missed it first time round.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

We loaded up through the Wii, and found it a bit cumbersome to navigate through the selections, and the handset constantly vibrating a bit annoying. We liked the recommendations and the "like....." but often couldn't find those things again when we fired it up again. I'm also not sure whether all available titles were on the home screen as it seemed to change daily, and we couldn't find things that had been there previously.
I imagine that navigation on a tablet computer is much more slick.
Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
