Questions:
Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?
Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?
Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?
Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?
Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw

More feedback: I would like to be able to restrict access to it for my DD. so she could only see the programmes suitable for her age range. I've had a look about for this this but couldn't find it. It would be really useful though.

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

Found it very easy, conected it to the Wii console and away we went.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

The kids love it. They are nejoying watching spongebob and youngest loves strawberry shortcake. Eldest (just 12) is a little dissapointed with the choices but has found some things to watch.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

Partner loves films but has found that there is not enough choice of films that he would like to see, there are many genres to choose from but the choice is still a little limited.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

Navigating was tricky at first as we were being dumb and couldn't see the "episodes"button, meaning we only were given the option of one . Once we realised what we had done wrong the kids were easily able to navigate the site, even my just 5year old.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Not sure...seems like value for money but would depend on how much new content is added and how often, the current choices will not last long with daily use and once you've seen them you may not want to pay after a few months if new choices are not available. Would be good if there was somewhere you could see what was being added..would give you an incentive to keep paying if you could see films you want to see were on their way to the site!

tigercametotea · 22/03/2012 18:01

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

Easy to set up with Facebook. However a bit tricky for me to set up on the Wii as there were no instructions to be found on Netflix's site and I had to Google.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

Their favourite by far is Super Mario Brothers, followed by Max and Ruby. But they would like to see Lazytown on the list too.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP-what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

Content isn't great for foreign films (my preferred genre). Not so good for English/American stuff either, as DH could not find certain movies that he wanted to watch. Lots of old films.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

The navigation was okay. Not too complicated. We had no problems with that.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

I'd recommend it but also warn friends that the selection of films aren't very new or extensice. Oh and would also warn them that if they are intending to view content on a laptop, they had better have a very fast connection. Viewing it on a Wii however is fine whatever the connection. Mine is a Virgin Media broadband connection that is up to 10MB in speed, but viewing from our laptop through wifi was unworkable as images were too choppy. BBC Iplayer however can be viewed without problems on the laptop so I suspect its also down to the software that Netflix uses to play the videos perhaps? Viewing quality on the Wii on our broadband wifi connection however was smooth and troublefree.

tigercametotea · 22/03/2012 18:02

*extensice = extensive

whomovedmychocolate · 22/03/2012 19:46

More feedback. I cannot figure out how to make it talk to my ultra smart Viera monster telly. Also the WII.

Finally where they heck is House. I cannot subscribe for good unless it includes dribbling over Mr Laurie. Danke.

whomovedmychocolate · 22/03/2012 19:47

And I'm getting time outs on a regular basis on my laptop feed. :(

whomovedmychocolate · 22/03/2012 21:43

I have identified the glitching problem and it's not my download speed or anything it's this Microsoft silverlight plug in. I'm a mac user, I'm on Safari. It kept glitching so I figured, update the browser, sort the cache etc. Did all that and now when I fire up Firefox I get an alert that Silverlight is corrupt and I should reinstall (Safari doesn't tell me it just crashes whenever I visit Netflix) [whyhaven'twegotafrustratedemoticon]

I have sullied my hard drive with Microsoft [spits]

:(

So for me, no good no more, can't get it to work on the TV, the WII and now the laptops.

FWIW I am not a newbie at this streaming stuff, I make videos myself, so I know how it works, and I don't actually think it (Silverlight) WILL work properly on Safari ever. Which is a shame because it's the default browser for most Mac users AFAIR.

tigercametotea · 23/03/2012 00:18

Yea I Googled around and it seema that this Silverlight plugin is the reason behind the sreeaming problems like I've encountered with using Netflix on the laptop. Apparently BBC Iplayer does not use that, and BBC Iplayer works really well on my lptop. Crystal clear, smooth pictures.

AlmaMartyr · 23/03/2012 09:20

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

I found it very easy and very fast to sign up to Netflix. I was a bit annoyed at having to use my Facebook log-in - I found out how to avoid doing this but would like it to be made more obvious. If you do use FB log-in then it uses Facebook to broadcast what you've been watching, which I only noticed when someone 'liked' a show I'd been watching. Again, I was able to switch it off but it really irritated me that it happened. I'd much prefer just to be able to log-on normally and select to link to FB if I choose.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

Children liked Paddington, and also went for Thomas and the Magic Railroad (probably the favourite so far). That said, we couldn't find much else for them to watch, it all seemed a bit random and either quite old or not very well known. A better choice of shows for children would be good.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

It's OK. There are quite a few TV shows, although quite a few that we might want to watch are channel 4 shows and available on the 4oD channel on Youtube anyway (for free). I'm really enjoying watching The Office (US). We don't have Sky or anything so find it difficult to watch good American imports - more series like that would be great (like House, West Wing, Desperate Housewives etc). We're huge fans of Arrested Development and have heard that Netflix will be doing a new series of it in the next couple of years and would absolutely subscribe for that.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

Very easy to navigate and use. Occasionally streaming drops but not often (on a Windows 7 laptop, using Chrome) but it hasn't been a problem.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

I probably would, but with the advice that it doesn't have much content. I'm not sure I would subscribe properly atm with the content available but would definitely pay if more became available.

StateofConfusion · 23/03/2012 11:48

HI, sorry im a little late to add feed back, my email had sent mumsnet to the junk bin Shock

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

very easy, no complaints at all.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

they quite like it, especially since sky are messing us around having on demand shows is great. they both love wonderpets and spiderman Hmm dd loves horseland aswell.
They would love to see some disney princess films/classic disney.
i noticed today charlie and lolas been added which pleased my 3yo dd alot.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

my dp loves it, the selection of films for his tastes are huge and he spends many a happy hour watching them on our ipod touch whilst the chilren have the tv on there choice.
for me, just a few more recent films/tv series would be great, although theres plenty i want to watch.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

again very easy, but we only watch on the wii and ipod so not sure how it is on a computer, my 4yo navigates the childrens section easily.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

yes and i have, the main reason is several of us have wiis set up on tvs which dont recieve tv iyswim, so its great to be able to put childrens tv on for them.
and for that main reason we'll be keeping netflix. And dp and i love dipping in and out of things on the ipod when we can (great for when sleep training a moody 3yo ipod on and rapid returns far easier Grin)

NoSleepTonight · 24/03/2012 14:39

Currently working my way through misfits which I'd missed due to living out of the uk. Got to say I'm impressed that it remembers where you are in an episode and automatically lines the next one up for you.
DH has found several films to watch while I'm busy on MN!

Have no connection issues, but we do have a very good broadband supply here.

One thing that would be good is the ability to stream different shows to different devices on the one account. - So the ds's could watch on the wii & myself on the laptop while cooking for example. - Though google leads me to believe that you can on the US version so maybe this will come soon.

I do like how you can add it to 6 devices though, as sky go for example you can only add 2.

Over all so far it is looking like we'll keep Netflix after the trial.

mumatron · 24/03/2012 16:30

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

It was so easy. I did need to log out of fb first but the process only took about 2 minutes. It does seem like you can only sign up fb when you first see it though, I should imagine that would put some people off.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

I signed up with ds sitting next to me and he asked to watch about 10 things straight away.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

I would like to see a few newer films on there but I'm sure they will all get on there eventually. I've noticed a few things on there I fancied seeing in the cinema but never got round to going.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

So far we've just watched things we've noticed on the front page, rather than searching for anything in particular. It looks really easy though.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not? I think I would, it's cheaper than sky movies and seems to have more variety of things to watch.

cazza40 · 24/03/2012 18:23

So to answer your questions,
1/ yes easy to set up and did it on the ipad but really do hate that link with facebook !
2/ kids not overimpressed with what there was there - we have bt vision and lovefilm already and some of the netflix films and progs seem a bit old
3/ there are some tv shows that might be of interest mainly old ones i never got round to watching but the films are so so old !
4/very easy to navigate and kids can do it too
5/at the moment not sure i would recommend it as am really happy with lovefilm but give me another week and will feed back again !!

Questions:
Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

Very easy to sign up. I live in a city with supposedly good internet connection, the speed was too slow. It stuck at 98% loaded for ages. When it eventually loaded the show kept pausing. I have watches programmes on the computer before without this problem

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

DS loves some of the shows on there, but got fed up of the pauses andonly lasted ten minutes.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

I wasn't overwhelmed by the shows. I onl;y fond one I would watch.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

Easy.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would suggest a browse, and using only if they had a very fast connection speed.

I have one suggestions; could there be information on the kids shows. DS wanted to watch Spiderman; it has been 30 years since I watched it and I had no idea what age it was geared towards.

Official tester
Questions:

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

Pretty easy - no complaints - watching on TV via wii and on iphone and laptop

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

Yes, lots, eg classic Disney movies, Pixar, The Incredibles, that kind of thing

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

I think the range of content is very poor and there is no where near enough recent stuff to justify the cost. Needs more ecent movies akin to what you would get from Blockbusters/Lovefilm/Virgin/Sky Movies etc.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

Pretty easy, annoying to have to use Wii remote.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

No, not at the moment. Not until the content is more up to date.

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

Very easy, I liked that it linked straight to facebook but I can still choose not to show what films I have watched.
Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

They really enjoy it, DD (6) has watched george of the jungle over and over and DS is currently watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. They want the Harry Potter films :)

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

I really like the content on Netflix. I find that although it isn't hugely 'current' I watch things that I missed when they first came out and didn't get around to renting. Also its handy for tv series that you missed the start off and never got around to watching (24 and Dexter)

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

Very easy to navigate, I really like that you can choose to resume a number of films/shows instead of just one, it helps when the kids are watcing different films on the same device.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, already have! Because I had really enjoyed some of the films I hadn't got around to watching the first time. Also because of the ease of use over different devices (we have it on the laptop, ps3, wii, ipad and iphone!)

pantspantspants · 26/03/2012 11:50

forgot to say in my first bit 'official tester'. Just wanted to add the fact you can use it on android has been a god send for keeping the DC entertained for hospital appointments. Even with the hospital WiFi there hasn't been any buffering.

FruitShootsAndHeaves · 26/03/2012 15:39

Just adding that I watched loads on Netflix over the weekend. I watched Jane Eyre all day Saturday and a couple of films too

I didn't have as much of an issue with the pixellation. It only happened once. Don't know why. There were the same amount of devices using the wireless, but it was much better.

I like it, but might have to try Love Film the alternatives before I decide if I'm going to keep paying monthly.

mrspnut · 26/03/2012 15:52

After a bit more usage, I'd like to add that both kids have used it loads especially as our sky+ box in the playroom packed up last weekend and netflix works through the wii in there.
DD2 has watched all of the sonic, inspector gadget and jonny test series as well as quite a few old films.
DD1 (15) has watched loads of films and misfits etc.
We are thinking about cancelling Lovefilm and keeping netflix but the lack of anything recent on the films section is causing us to waver.

whomovedmychocolate · 26/03/2012 23:11

And today's whinge. Bloody BT broadband are complaining about my high usage and suggesting I switch to unlimited after only a week's use of Netflix Hmm

Dear Mr and Mrs Netflix owners, would you like a side business upselling ISP so I can also find a new ISP without having to think about it. Thank you!

StateofConfusion · 27/03/2012 00:35

just wanted to come back and say how much we love netflix on our wii!

it streams quickly seamlessly and clearly and ive convinced 2 family members to join.

were now running it on 3 devices and so far sky havent asked us to move to unlimited and dd and dp have it an hour each most days, probably more.

i think what i LOVE most is were planning a caravan holiday the site has wifi and netflix can go with us.

brilliant. really happy with the service!

DoubleNegativePanda · 27/03/2012 02:39

Not an official tester, but I've been using Netflix for years.

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process? I find the setup process extremely easy and fast, have never had any problems when setting it up on a new device. I have it running through a Wii and three iPhones.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet? DD loves the selection of films but wishes Disney were available. Also, she would like to see the original versions of some cartoons such as my little Pony and Strawberry Shortcake.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future? For the most part we are happy with it, but recently have been disappointed that things are disappearing; several films we had watched are gone and Red Dwarf is no longer available. Why?

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch? Very easy, we search directly if we want to watch something specific.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not? I would recommend it, although lost people I know use it already!

Belo · 27/03/2012 09:00

Q1 - How easy was it to sign up to? Well, I didn't sign up as I couldn't work out how to do it without doing it via facebook which I didn't want to do. So, the answer is not very easy!

Q2/Q3 - But, I wasn't that disappointed that I couldn't sign up as I noticed that Love Film had a much better selection.

Q5 - No, wouldn't recommend for the reasons given above.

Annamaria0 · 27/03/2012 11:01

I have been using internet rental services for about 6 years now - first Blockbusters, then Lovefilm. I tried Netflix for a month and was very disappointed at the poor choice of films and TV series - I didn't manage to find a single film I wanted to watch for the whole month! Admittedly, I have seen lots of films and TV series, so I am probably more demanding and picky than many other customers. I only really want to watch the latest releases, because I have already seen all the older ones! So I am sticking with LF for now, it is not perfect, but certainly has a much bigger catalogue (still annoys me that I can't watch some DVDs, because their parent company, Amazon, wants to flog them).
