Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

I didn't want to sign up using FB and they don't make it particularly easy not to.
Signing up was pretty straightforward though. I couldn't see a Paypal option though.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

The girls are looking forward to a duvet day so they can watch the films/programs they have selected so far. At first it looks like a lot of choice but that would depend on how often it is updated.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

We expected more tbh, but maybe the US version is better. We'd heard great things and hoped to be able to catch up on a lot of US shows, such as those on Sky Atlantic, Buffy, Angel etc.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

Very easy but I wasn't sure if I was seeing the complete selection.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
I will mention the trial but as I'm not sure it is worth £5.99 per month yet I won't be recommending it just yet. Sadly there isn't enough there to replace Sky.

Now, how do I get it off my Facebook?

NoSleepTonight · 19/03/2012 19:28

Ds1 (7) has mastered using Netflix on the Xbox and tv by himself. He thinks there's loads of great stuff on there, he's impressed with the amount of Iron Man, Spiderman, Hulk etc that he can watch. He has also discovered Sonic and Super Mario are on there so he says he's going to try those next.

Ds2 (3) is obsessed with Dora the Explorer so the fact that there is so many of those on there has been great for us over the last few days while he's had a chest infection. - Last time he was ill he kept asking for his Dora dvd over and over.

One of the only things the boys will sit and watch together is Spongebob Square Pants and there also appears to be lots of those on there so I'm sure they'll be being played over half term.

I'm going to have a look tonight for what there is I may like to watch.

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

Very easy to sign up to and set up on tv.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

Very limited selection, no Disney films or tv available which is all Dd wanted to watch. She hasn't used it at all after looking at what was available.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

Again, very limited selection of both films and tv. Not enough to make it worthwhile keeping, especially in the long term.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

The browsing interface was clumsy at best, almost impossible to view the entire selection available. Design of the interface seems to be pushing certain films while not making it possible to look at the alternatives.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Would definitely not recommend netflix over the alternatives, because of poor selection and very poor layout and design. It is also more expensive than lovefilm which has a much wider selection and is easier to use.

Lilyloo · 19/03/2012 20:25

Not a great start. Loaded it onto the wii, this was easy enough to do when I realized you got this in the shop. Speedy enough to download. Easy enough to navigate. Ds 9 found some things in the kids section he wanted to watch. He wasn't that pleased that he couldn't find star wars or any of the Disney Channel programmed. Dd was pleased to see charlie and lola but was also looking for ben and holly and peppa pig.
We then browsed the adults, selection looks good. Chose west is west. Didn't even get to the end of the starting credits before it stopped to load and again another 3 or 4 minutes in. I sadly think maybe our Internet connection is too slow. Dp said he will try on the laptop later.
He said it may work better in the day which I will try with the dc after school.

toomuchpink · 19/03/2012 20:29

q1 My husband signed-up. He's on facebook and I am not, plus he is much better at these things than me. I probably would not have gone through with it otherwise.
q2 Dora the Explorer has been a big hit with my three-year-old. She's watched Barney too but is not that fussed about it. She is very into Disney princess characters at the moment. She would probably enjoy wathcing highlights from the films with the best songs in.
q3 I was not very excited by the content. Some of it seemed very old - such as Cold Feet. Other stuff like Derren Brown is available free via 4od. My husband has watched one series, Firefly, but he also feels it is not very current.
q4 Navigation is fine.
q5 I can see it is good for children. I would say it might be worth getting for a month or two so the kids have something different to watch for a bit. That's it though.

BeanutPutter · 19/03/2012 21:09

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

It was incredibly simple. I had set aside an hour as normally there is some kind of 'faff' when joining any subscription service but it was so quick and also reliable. I was very impressed with the ease, speed and simple process. DH even commented that I hadn't "gone mental" so it must have been easy.

I was not worried about the Facebook link. I just removed this option before watching any programmes. I am sure my FB friends wouldn't be interested in my viewing! If there was a programme I enjoyed though it would have been great to recommend that programme only.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

DD loved it. She wasn't so keen on a lot of the old shows such as bob the builder etc but I showed her the kids movie section, she appears to have the same penchant for cheesy 80s movies her mum used to have.

DD asked if Scooby Doo could be put on there as well as Garfield.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

I liked it for the TV shows. I love watching a whole series of TV straight off. I liked the shows you had but would have liked to have seen some others such as Curb your enthusiasm, entourage and generally popular American dramas or comedies.

I'd like to see some newer films and would pay a little extra for newer films.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

It was incredibly simple. We used our iPads, iPhones and also the Internet TV, DD was shown once on the TV and got it really quickly. I loved that it remembers what you were watching and asked if you wanted to resume. I began watching something downstairs on my iPad and when I went to bed I finished watching it on my phone as I fed DS. It was amazingly simple and well thought out. I think DH used the PS3 just to see how it worked. He was equally impressed with the service.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Definitely. I have already raved about the service to others. I have previously used lovefilm and we had huge problems with them. Netflix have kicked them into the corner! I cannot recommend you enough. You are easy to join, some to connect to, intuitive and have a good choice of programmes I am keen on watching. I will be keeping my subscription going. :)

Roseformeplease · 19/03/2012 21:45

I found the setting up really easy and have watched on both iPad and the children via the Wi. I am even considering getting Apple TV to make watching it on a 2nd telly an option. The children LOVE it and have found a huge range of things to watch from the first ever episode of Dr Who to Disney films. I wanted more series that I have missed. Where is Mad Men? Also, the films are not very current and could do with being more up to date. However, I have already recommended it to others and we will keep it on at the end of the month. We even prefer it to Sky which we have had for years. Agree about the Facebook but opted out of that. Great!

befuzzled · 19/03/2012 21:49

quick newbie question as havent got time to read whole thread at mo - so to actually watch netflix physically on my tv i have 2 options is that right? via wii or via samsung smart TV? can you do it via Virgin Media?

thanks

CocoaLoco · 19/03/2012 21:53

Not included in the trial but signed up when it first became available.

I found it easy to sign up, unchecked the facebook doodah, no problems. The childrens selection is generally very good, if they could get a few retro shows on there it would make me happy. Ds1 has watched alpha and omega about 10 times , ds2 likes blues clues and "tommy" (rugrats).

It's easy to navigate and the adult selection I would say is good, although new stuff added more often would entice me to keep paying, I'm not sure how often it's updated, not very often it seems.

I tried the USA netflix on the ps3 and tbh I actually prefer the content on the UK version, they do have more series of things, but not stuff I would want to actually watch.

Haven't had any trouble with streaming or picture quality and our broadband isn't the most speedy.

befuzzled · 19/03/2012 21:59

I am underwhelmed by adult selection - I could add films to my virgin media for £7 per month and see much more recent ones - or LoveFilm who, presumably, are their big competitor. Would use Virgin/Sky or Love Film over Netflix at mo I think.

Honeydragon · 19/03/2012 23:20

How did you get it connected to your tv?????????

BeanutPutter · 19/03/2012 23:51

I connected to our TV by choosing Internet TV, it refreshed itself and there was the Netflix logo ready to go. I guess it depends on the TV. :/

befuzzled · 20/03/2012 01:29

is it a samsung? apparently you can do it with samsung smartTV

Honeydragon · 20/03/2012 07:21

Beanut, I have a LG I tried similar but they ignored each other!
Must be the TV.

frownieface · 20/03/2012 08:12

I am not an official mn tester but have been using netflix for about 2 months.

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

Sign up was very easy, the Facebook updates were a pain (even if you said do not share this title) so I have disconnected Facebook.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

No kids so cant comment on the content but I did find films such as Honey I shrunk the Kids on the kids bit, so 80's films like that may appeal to a wider audience not just kids.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

This is where after two months I am thinking of cancelling my subscription, a lot of the t.v shows that I am interested in on this site are very old, for example only the first 4 seasons of 24 are available, some of the content is available for free from E4 and Itv player. There is no reason to stay with Netflix after you have watched the programs and films you like because new content is not easy to find or obviously available.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

Proper menus would be nice for example an a-z of everything available, scrolling through the options gets a little tedious and again it is not obvious if new stuff (has any actually been added?) is available.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

In it's current format no I would not recommend it, I think it needs a few tweaks before I would recommend it.

lilbreeze · 20/03/2012 09:44

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?
I could only see how to sign up with Facebook, so did that, which at least had the benefit of being very quick and easy. I also used PayPal, which made it even quicker.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?
DD1 (aged 4) likes it and has watched a couple of films plus Max & Ruby. Personally I'm rather disappointed with the selection for her age group though. Would have liked more suitable films (especially Disney films like Snow White, Dumbo, Lion King, Finding Nemo etc). DD1 especially likes the fact that TV series are 'back to back' so continue from the end of one into the start of the next, and it automatically remembers where you are up to when you come back to it. Usually she watches TV series via YouTube, which means she has to search around for episodes she hasn't seen before. I would like to see more UK TV series though.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?
I would like more UK series, and more up-to-date films, plus older series like Ally McBeal. I was really disappointed initially at the range of films - seems to be very little from the last 5 years. However DH has since had a thorough look through and found quite a lot of films we'd both like to watch so it's not as bad as I first thought. It would be great if you could somehow add films you want to watch to a 'wishlist' to make it easier to find them again.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?
Not bad, but not great. Didn't like the sideways scrolling images for me (would prefer a simple list without pictures which would be much quicker) but it was great for DD who can't read so was able to choose from the pictures.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
I'm not sure.... I guess I would recommend at least the free trial as that gives you the opportunity to see if there's enough stuff you like.

r3dh3d · 20/03/2012 09:49

I'm a Random, not a tester, but...

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?
The Facebook thing was confusing - took a while to work out that if you had signed up "through facebook" then your facebook id and password wouldn't work if you were logging on via the PS3.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?
They don't watch a lot of TV on Netflix tbh. They're working their way through the Spiderman back catalog at the moment. After that I'll see if there is any classic Batman on there.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?
It's pretty ho-hum tbh. The contrast between what is available in the US (we connected to the US site for a while, to give it a kickabout) and what is available in the UK is woeful. Clearly they have bought a couple of decent films and TV series to bung on the adverts and backfilled with lots of absolute trash, and that is true to an extent both in the UK and the US. But there is so much more available on the US site and in particular much better and more recent TV content. The assumption seems to be that we are a poor, backward nation, so give us rubbish because we won't know any better. Hmm To make up for being treated like an idiot poor relation, I'd like to see some decent UK back catalogue as well - but with BBC about to licence their iplayer stuff that seems very unlikely.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?
Easy enough.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
Maybe. It depends on how the content evolves: if all the US content was available here, then it would be a much better proposition. And if they refresh more of the content that would help. Personally, I've exhausted the stuff I really want to watch within a few weeks, and I don't watch a lot of TV so if I don't want to watch it, I turn it off. The up side, of course, is it is very very cheap and the month's trial is free. So if anyone asks me, I'd say it's worth signing up and having a look and seeing if there is anything on there you like. But I'm not raving about it, no.

FrankWippery · 20/03/2012 11:38

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

Very easy. Not particularly fussed either way about the FB link up, but I agree with other posters that a simple option for email or FB sign up at the start would be better.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

Youngest DC is 3 and she has been very happy to watch back to back Wonderpets I haven't as it drives me potty though she's been asking for Barbie films and I would like to see more of them/Disney on there.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

I think the content is pretty good actually. There could be some more up to date stuff I suppose, but I've enjoyed watching things from a couple or three years ago that I'd missed through living abroad. I suppose had I not been, I may have been less spoilt for choice.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

Very easy. It's clear, categories and subs are self explanatory and I found things that suited quickly. The choices that they have thrown up for me based on the questionnaire have, in the main, been spot on - have found myself watching things that I'd forgotten about/not seen, that I may otherwise have not found.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would. It's cheap and easy to use. I think more content is needed, but appreciate that that will come in time. I've recommended it to my brothers and sister, and my older three DC are all trying it out at school as well (they board, so tv is bonus when they don't have to go with the majority vote in the common rooms!)

mrssweetpotato · 20/03/2012 11:54

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

Very easy and did it on my iPhone.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

I prefer for them to watch older films, classic Disney, Mary Poppins etc.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

To keep me interested and subscribed please consider adding more British films and BBC TV shows, such as Only Fools & Horses, I'd love to see that sitcom 'Kiss me Kate' again (I think that was BBC) Reggie Perrin, Blackadder, Fry & Lawrie, Bleak House, Martin Chuzzlewit...

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

Very easy.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

I'd say it's good but the content isn't as good as lovefilm particularly the British/European content. I'm not patriotic but I don't 'get' American humour much and DH and I love quirky British or French/ Spanish films with subtitles. Favourites such as anything by Almodovar, or with Isabelle Huppert, or classics such as The Full Monty.

We do love misfits, peep show, extras, fawlty towers :) thanks for putting those on!

ShatnersBassoon · 20/03/2012 17:48

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

I found it really easy. I was intending to watch it through the XBox, but I needed a special XBox Gold subscription to do so (£6 a month) so used the Wii instead, which was easy to sort out. I wish there weren't any of the facebook things when you're setting up your account, which I found a bit confusing.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

OK, although there were none of their favourite films ie anything made within their lifetime Grin. The shows are OK, but there was nothing different to the things they can watch on Sky 24 hours a day ie Spongebob.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

I would love to see some more recent films. Although the films available were varied and plenty, there wasn't much to interest us that we haven't seen before. The TV shows were fine, but most that we're interested in are available for free on 4OD, or on repeat on one of the hundreds of Sky channels.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

Easy, although I soon realised that most films were appearing on multiple lists making the choice look bigger than it actually is!

I didn't like that everything you view is there on the 'Recently viewed' list for all to see when you put Netflix on. I don't really want my children (or visitors) knowing what DH and I watched the night before, thank you very much. I did investigate whether there is a way to delete the viewing history, but there isnt.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

No. There seems to be not a lot for the (admittedly small) subscription charge. The films are all old enough to be shown on terrestrial TV, and the children's shows are either ancient or on Sky around the clock.

AllotmentLottie · 20/03/2012 18:07

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

Easy, really simple. However, it doesn't always save our login details which is annoying. Did not enable the Facebook link.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

My children are both loving Ruby and Max. DD is Max apparently, and DS is Ruby (not the other way round?)

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

Loved watching all of Twin Peaks and also old US Office, IT Crowd and Outnumbered shows. DH enjoying the old Doctor Who episodes and old Pink Panthers.

I would love to see Green Wing, some of the recent Swedish ones (e.g. Wallander), more artyand foreign films - not completely way out, but similar to what you may see on Film 4 or at Cine Lumiere in Kensington.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

Easy.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

I have done already.

Lilyloo · 20/03/2012 20:24

Not faring well, the dc tried to watch charlie and lola this morning and we had the same loading problems.
Dp can't even get it too load on the laptop. Guess our Internet connection to slow.
Dp is looking to change the Internet provider and said he would look at this if it could compete against sky. However on first glances I don't think so. I think lovefilm provides more recent choice.

Codandchops · 21/03/2012 07:53

Red Dwarf
Charlie & Lola

I am liking it more and more as good stuff gets added. Now then ......what about some Pixar films - even the short ones are worth watching.

Allthewhitehorsesarestillinbed · 21/03/2012 08:21

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

I found it very easy (once I knew what I was doing on the PS3!) Also found the set up to be very quick and easy via my Android phone and fiance's IPhone.

I'm not on Facebook and initially was annoyed as on first glance it looks like you have to be on FB to access Netflix. Not sure if the designers intended it that way and perhaps that should be addressed?

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

My four year old enjoyed some of the selection, but she's not terribly adventurous and wouldn't look at films/programmes she didn't recognise. She is also a Disney fiend and would probably like some of that please.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

The content is fairly average but I am thoroughly enjoying Misfits. We were both disappointed with the lack of more recent releases. I was actually hoping to finally catch up with all the Akira Kurosawa films I promised my 18 year old self I would watch one day! And please get the more recent seasons of Dexter and some Lost too.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

It was just okay to be honest. I felt like I really had to hunt for what I wanted. A full availability list might be nice? Unless that exists and I couldn't find it!?

Like another reviewer wrote, I didn't like the main screen including a resume function as it would be too easy for my children to watch something unsuitable. Some kind of parental control would be useful.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

I have done so already, but with the proviso that the choice is limited and the films aren't new releases. I also recommended it as we enjoyed being able to watch different things simultaneously - not sure if this is a deliberate feature, but it's a positive one.

Questions:
Q1 How easy or difficult did you find it to set up Netflix? Can you think of any improvements that could be made to the sign up process?

I originally set up netflix using Facebook and then realised that everything I watched would be published on there and so I disassociated my account. the next time I went to log on I had to reset my password which was a palaver.

Q2 What do your child(ren) think of the TV shows and films available in the Just for Kids section? What has been their favourite so far? Is there anything else they'd like to see on Netflix that isn't on there yet?

I haven't really let my 5 year old loose on it yet because we've been busy but my teenager has spent hours watching inbetweeners, peep show and so on.

Q3 Now thinking about you and/or your DH/DP - what do you think of the content on Netflix, both in terms of the TV shows and films available? Is there anything else you'd like to see on there in future?

I was looking for some specific american shows that we have been wanting to watch but they don't seem to be available yet. The films that are shown on the home page haven't inspired me either.

Q4 How easy or difficult did you find it to navigate around and find the shows/films you or your DC wanted to watch?

It's pretty difficult to navigate on the ipad, the scroll goes too fast and there is no way to slow it down. I haven't tried watching anything on the ps3 yet so can't comment on that.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Netflix to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Probably not, we have been using lovefilm for years and although their on demand content isn't great either, it also has the posted newer DVD's as well which sets it above netflix.
