Thank you for selecting us to take part in the trial. DD3 is 17 months, tall but very slim - we used the 4/4+ Maxi nappies.
Q1 What was your overall impression of Aldi nappies? Did they fit your baby/child? How did they feel?
These nappies fitted really well, and seemed to stay in place without leaving any elastic marks along the inside of her thighs, the way that Other Brands have been known to do. I was surprised at how soft they felt, and was initially concerned that they wouldn?t be sufficiently absorbent, as they felt a bit thinner than the brand we normally use, but that hasn?t been the case at all.
Q2 How did they compare with other nappies you've used? Did they do the job they were intended for? Any leaks?
Surprisingly well. I?ve always wimped out of trying non-branded nappies in the past, for fear of the consequences. Now I feel extremely foolish for spending heaps of money completely unnecessarily. If anything, these nappies have been better than the Other Brand I normally buy ? we have had no leakage issues at all, even when faced with industrial-scale poo, and no nappy rash or soreness, either. Well done Aldi!!
Q3 What did you think of the nappy packaging? Was it easy or difficult to open? What about the information on the packaging?
I was initially confused, and thought we had been sent Pampers, due to the colour of the packaging. I didn?t really look at the packaging at the time (who does?!), but I?ve checked it out now?.the baby picture is fine, but overall its far too ?busy?: too many cartoons/colours/fonts?.I think most parents know what to do with a nappy, and don?t need pictures to demonstrate ?stretchiness? and so on. Opening the packet was fine ? we always load up the changing unit with a whole pack?s worth, so no issues with storage.
Q4 How did you find the wipes to use? Did you notice any difference between the normal and sensitive skin wipes? Did you find you had to use more, less or the same amount of wipes as you usually do?
Opening the wipes took a little more force than usually required ? is there a way to make the sticky closing stuff a bit easier to unpeel? DD has sensitive skin and has been fine with the sensitive wipes but I haven?t risked the normal ones for nappy changing. We did use them a few times for hands/face/general cleanups but none of us like the smell ? is it possible to make them unscented?
Overall, the wipes are fine. I find them a bit ?dry? but they are nice and strong, separate easily (so you don?t end up with 20 at a time!), and do the job nicely. I probably use one or two more than usual due to the dryness?but DD does seem to be doing particularly sticky poos at the moment, so that might be the main driver for increased wipe usage!
Q5 Is there anything about the nappies, wipes or packaging that you think could be improved? If so, what?
Reduce or change the perfume on the normal wipes
Q6 We've included some info on how much Aldi nappies cost below - do you think that they're good value for money or not? Why? And how about the wipes - do you think they're good value or not?
I?m stunned! The nappies represent excellent value?.having children is so hideously expensive, it?s a relief to find some cost-cutting solutions which don?t involve a quality compromise?! I volunteered for the trial because I have never had the nerve to make the switch to non-branded nappies but have been completely bowled over by how well these compare to the branded alternative.
I?m not quite so keen on the wipes, although DH likes them. I normally buy the Tesco ones (99p/pack) when they are on BOGOF, which compare well on the price front.
Q7 Do you think you'll use the nappies again? What about the wipes? If so, why? If not, why not?
I intend to stock up on the nappies as and when I can get to an Aldi, and will definitely pre-purchase pull-up pants at the same time, ahead of toilet training DD in a few months time. Sadly, the nearest Aldi is some distance away, and DH has pointed out that any savings will be lost in petrol costs if I make a journey there and back for nappies alone. Perhaps Aldi need an online presence?!
As I said above, I prefer the Tesco sensitive wipes, but I would definitely buy the Aldi ones again if I was in the store.
Q7 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Aldi nappies to other parents of children or babies in nappies? If so, why? If not, why not? And would you recommend the wipes?
I would definitely recommend the nappies ? in fact, I already have, as several of my friends have been trying various own-branded nappies recently but hadn?t thought of trying the Aldi ones. I think they represent great value for money, with no compromise on quality....which sounds like the sort of thing adverts always tell you, and you think 'yeah, right'...but is surprisingly true in this case!
