We have another exciting product test for you - we are looking for 40 Mumsnetters who don't already have a Wii at home but would like to take part in "My First Wii Challenge" with Nintendo.

Nintendo say they "are keen to offer Wiis to 40 MN families to encourage them to spend fun time together as a family as well as give them the opportunity to test out some great games". If you already have a Wii, please look out for the feedback thread for this project as Nintendo would like to hear your views too (in exchange for a prize draw Grin).

If you are selected for the test you'll be sent a Wii console, handsets and nunchucks for all the family plus the following games:

uDraw GameTablet with uDraw Studio
Mario Kart
Kirby's Epic Yarn, and
Just Dance Jnrs

We'd then like you to take part in 4 weekly challenges with the Wii. This will involve playing with one game per week and adding your feedback to a thread on Mumsnet.

The challenge will start week commencing 4 July and last for 4 weeks - so please only apply if you are able to add feedback every week in July.

Ideally we're looking for MNers in the UK with at least 2 children.

After the challenge is completed and you have added at least 4 lots of feedback you will be able to keep the console and games for your family to enjoy.

In addition, we will need 10 of the families selected to film themselves and their family playing with the Wii. These videos will be used on the Nintendo pages on Mumsnet in the autumn and possibly elsewhere (they will be hosted on YouTube). If you are willing to undertake the video element please indicate this on the form link below. You will be supplied with a FlipCam (which will need to be returned). You will be briefed on filming requirements but it shouldn't be too onerous.

To sign up please add your details here

Good luck and many thanks

DD3 is 3 & does quite well on sbsp, she can scrub things out, feed the jelyfish, draw the line between spongebob & the snail & open the vault before the time runs out but she can't complete the other tasks.

She is left handed so using the colour change etc on the drawing game is hard as she has to use her right hand over the top of her drawing hand which is complicated. An option to turn the tablet round so the controller is on the right hand side would be good.

I like Kirby but because I have loaded the internet & shopping I don't have enough room to save my game so I have to start from the beggining every time which is a pain. There should be enough room to have the internet & save games.

I wonder if Nintendo will look at the feedback thread and answer our queries

Bohica · 24/07/2011 14:44

Also, An option to run/walk faster would be great on the Kirby one as it walks to slow for me!!

Collision · 24/07/2011 19:31

The boys loved Kirby but were annoyed that they could not save the game.

Does anyone know how to do this?

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 24/07/2011 20:27

Ok we're home now - took the Wii away with us but forgot the lead to plug it into the tv Blush

My ds's are aged 5 and 3 and they get very frustrated with sbsp - it's just too quick for them so I've said that Nintendo have asked for it back Blush as I've had enough of their tears of frustration for now.

Mario is still favourite by far, but the squabbles start quickly due to the lack of controllers (if you borrow other peoples do they just work or do you need to do anything to connect them into the system?)

DS2 loves the chopping on wii sports - he is very funny but hates being filmed so I'm working on that!!

Our filming is not great at all! I've never planned ahead so the house looks like a bomb's hit it, the boys usually look like they've been dragged through a hedge backwards and there tending to be a bit of squbbling after a minute or two! I've not deleted any of it though - Nintendo can see it like it really is !

Fennel · 24/07/2011 20:43

We are doing OK with the one controller, though we're not sure whether to do video feedback on Mario Kart and Kirby with the one controller or just wait. But it's going OK, we are all quite happy with it. and they haven't been squabbling about it lately either.

Scootergrrrl · 24/07/2011 21:12

We borrowed a controller and you need to synch them with your Wii - open the little flap on the console and take the battery cover off the controller then press the two red buttons you find inside, both at the same time. It's so much more fun with an extra controller and there's much less fighting!

Bohica · 24/07/2011 21:39

Collision You can save it, I did it today. I can't put it on now so from memory:

When it tells you it can't be saved you need to click on the option below the first one & that will take you to a new screen that asks if you want to see data from your Wii or from a memory card (choose Wii) & then it will show you all the games you have played with things stored. I deleted MarioKart, pictionary, sbsp, Udraw etc but kept Wii fit for our daily fitness records & that gave me enough room to store Kirby Smile

We managed to store & get into Rainbow level today & it is VERY hard for me the children.

I also managed to turn myself into a car which made Kirby quicker but I don't know how I did it & couldn't do it again Hmm

Oh, and I've taken my curtains down because after watching the filminng back I have decided they really don't match the room & I can't believe I've had them up for 6 months.

Thanks Scooter and lol Bohica Grin

I'm going to make a start on the feedback as we're on holiday for 2 weeks from Saturday and I'm worried we won't meet our side of the 'bargain' as far as playing and feeding back goes!

I think I must be really thick but Pictionary confused me. It was hard when we kept landing on the 'all play' squares and dd2 wanted to do the drawing but couldn't read the clue!

and I coudn't understand why, when it was our turn to play, we were drawing for the other team to guess, iyswim. Again, I'm not very on the ball at the moment so it's probably me. the drawings did make us laugh though.

uDraw - not so good really. The dds have played twice but haven't really experimented and don't seem interested. They draw in RL a lot and can spend hours colouring but this doesn't have the same appeal. maybe if we pursue it a bit... dd2 (5) has trouble making the pen work as she isn't holding it exactly right and gets frustrated.

dd1 loves mario cart; dd2 not so much.

They spend most of the time playing on Sports Resort: bowling, sword-fighting, jet-ski, archery. Dd2 loves all of these and has turned out to be really good at them. The good thing about this is that the Wii is a really equaliser and it's easy for the youngest of the family to win a game.

Wish we had the extra controllers though.

AnnMumsnet · 25/07/2011 08:20

Am really hoping to be able to email you all with feedback thread today....we're so nearly there!

Scootergrrrl · 25/07/2011 10:19

Do you think Nintendo are hoping for feedback of the lovely "it's the most MARVELLOUS family fun and everyone playa beautifully together" as opposed to "DS just spent 10 minutes on the naughty step for hitting his sister with the single controller because it was her turn and now they're watching telly instead"? Grin

Am SO glad we're not being filmed Blush

HumperdinkFangboner · 25/07/2011 10:35

I don't think that has worked out quite as well as Nintendo would have hoped - it's a shame the extra controllers never materialised, my filming feedback is dull, mainly consisting of "it's my go now" ad infinitum.

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios · 25/07/2011 10:38

Well it's proper market research though isn't it, Scooter?!
Another good example of RL vs Advert World

stanausauruswrecks · 25/07/2011 10:53

Aaargh! Our controller has broken!! I think the Wii senor has gone - it will scroll the wii menu pages back and forth, but the "hand" for clicking specific parts of the menu such as selecting a game has disappeared - anyone got any suggestions before I DS explodes with frustration?

GypsyMoth · 25/07/2011 10:55

Try a reset with console and handset. New batteries? Try them too

QueenOfFeckingEverything · 25/07/2011 11:32

I have to say its just not a family thing AT ALL without extra controllers.

We have had a few games of Pictionary where all of us played, but then we could have done that with the paper version! The rest of the games just don't work as family games with only one controller.

stanausauruswrecks · 25/07/2011 11:56

Have tried resetting with console - the batteries are fine, all the buttons are working, just can't get the arrow to appear on screen - am looking ridiculous as I swing the remote every which way to try and get a response Blush

Scootergrrrl · 25/07/2011 12:41

Have you knocked the sensor off the top of the telly somehow? If not, try getting right up close to it and see if that makes any difference. (Advice from my DB who's had one of these for a while!)

stanausauruswrecks · 25/07/2011 16:00

DH has crumbled under the whining from DS, and has bought a new controller, which works fine, arrow present and correct. I have to say though that I thought the controllers would have lasted a bit longer than 2 weeks - Nintendo, take note please Grin

IShallWearMidnight · 25/07/2011 16:02

Ann, any more news on the extra controller(s) and the dance game?

Triggles · 25/07/2011 16:24

Yes, if there's one more fight over controllers (between me & DH, not to mention the kids! Grin) I may go insane! And the arrival of the game would put an end to the constant "have we gotten the dance game yet?" from DD and DS2. Hmm

Belo · 25/07/2011 17:28

I wish I had never mentioned the dance game...

We're not having too many controller arguments in our house (well, not between the kids). DD2 has worked out that DD1 is better at Mario and Kirby so she just gets her to do it, and seems to enjoy watching. uDraw is not an attraction at all I'm afraid. Even with Spongebob.

Mario is mine and DH's favourite and Kirby is the DD's so far.

As to Sports resort, I've been mean and not let the DD's play with that as it's not one of the review titles. In fact, I've hidden it and denied its existence. I thought that they would probably like that the most and then not want to play with the other games. Or, am I wrong? Do we have to give feedback on Sports resort as well? Should we start sword fighting and bowling?

ProfYaffle · 25/07/2011 17:32

I think it's a bit odd that Nintendo have obviously spent such a lot of money on this test but haven't organised it properly. I do hope we get the dance game though, I can imagine our dds really enjoying that one.

GypsyMoth · 25/07/2011 18:55

Prof I thought it odd too! Also find it odd it's feedback on games that have been out ages. And feedback on a family exp but with just one controller

Feels like an experiment on sorting out sibling squabbling and jo frost is going to arrive to give tips on how to diffuse arguing!!

ProfYaffle · 25/07/2011 18:58

Maybe it's one of those social behaviourial experiments to see how much we'll put with when we have a sense of obligation/gratitude! Grin
