We have another exciting product test for you - we are looking for 40 Mumsnetters who don't already have a Wii at home but would like to take part in "My First Wii Challenge" with Nintendo.

Nintendo say they "are keen to offer Wiis to 40 MN families to encourage them to spend fun time together as a family as well as give them the opportunity to test out some great games". If you already have a Wii, please look out for the feedback thread for this project as Nintendo would like to hear your views too (in exchange for a prize draw Grin).

If you are selected for the test you'll be sent a Wii console, handsets and nunchucks for all the family plus the following games:

uDraw GameTablet with uDraw Studio
Mario Kart
Kirby's Epic Yarn, and
Just Dance Jnrs

We'd then like you to take part in 4 weekly challenges with the Wii. This will involve playing with one game per week and adding your feedback to a thread on Mumsnet.

The challenge will start week commencing 4 July and last for 4 weeks - so please only apply if you are able to add feedback every week in July.

Ideally we're looking for MNers in the UK with at least 2 children.

After the challenge is completed and you have added at least 4 lots of feedback you will be able to keep the console and games for your family to enjoy.

In addition, we will need 10 of the families selected to film themselves and their family playing with the Wii. These videos will be used on the Nintendo pages on Mumsnet in the autumn and possibly elsewhere (they will be hosted on YouTube). If you are willing to undertake the video element please indicate this on the form link below. You will be supplied with a FlipCam (which will need to be returned). You will be briefed on filming requirements but it shouldn't be too onerous.

To sign up please add your details here

Good luck and many thanks

I've not had long on Spongebob- what are the best bits (and where are they) for young dc? (mine are 5 and 3)

Bohica · 12/07/2011 22:04

The pen would work better as a rollerball. It doesn't work very well when held as a pen would be held, you have to hold it vertically for it to work properly.

The children enjoy using it & sponge bob is a firm favourite. We did try pictionary but one adult & the small children didn't work well & children got cross because mummy kept laughing at their drawings & shouting "tree" "lampost" when they were trying to draw a fireman Grin

NonnoMum · 12/07/2011 22:05

Who'd've guessed I'd be a secret virtual table-tennis genius?

Oh, and sword fighter too!

NonnoMum · 12/07/2011 22:06

And DD1 (6) can make a cute virtual puppy catch a virtual frisbee. We told her to enjoy the moment as that's as close as it gets to getting a pet...

Bohica · 12/07/2011 22:11

Ohh where & how Nonno My DD would love that!

HumperdinkFangboner · 12/07/2011 22:41

Me and DH have been playing MarioKart all night really enjoying that game so far.

Going to let DS loose on Spongebob tomorrow.

IHeartKingThistle · 12/07/2011 23:22

DD, who is 4, has beaten DH's scores on dog frisbee and bowling today. I'm so proud Grin.

She loves the uDraw and is picking it up fairly quickly but it is frustrating and not particularly intuitive, I think (sorry). I had a go and quite enjoyed it - that music is weirdly hypnotic! DS just couldn't get the concept of 'you need to press down harder than that' but then he is little!

Loving the Wii overall, more than I thought I would (even though it thinks I'm 54 when I'm actually 32).

ProfYaffle · 13/07/2011 06:59

Can we switch the music off? It's driving me mad. dh and I actually played MarioCart when the dc were in bed last night Blush I would never have predicted that would happen!

Jux · 13/07/2011 09:38

Second switching off the music. It's ghastly and drives us all insane.

Got onto uDraw with the tablet while dd was at school yesterday. Found it pretty boring and not a patch on drawing programmes available on the pc. DD was totally uninterested, once she got home. I asked her to try all the options, but she got fed up with it within 20 minutes and actually went off to tidy her room instead Grin (note to self, must remember that!).

We'll try Spongebob and Pictionary today; well, that's the plan.

I don't find the tablet/pen particularly easy to use, or very responsive. Sometimes I have to use the remote to make a choice but it doesn't seem to work when it's inserted inside the tablet so I have to push it out in order to make it work. I'm sitting within 5ft of the tv and sensor.

Silly question, but when you've finished with the Wii, do you just switch it off? Is there some sort of command you enter via the remote to 'end program' or something?

GypsyMoth · 13/07/2011 09:41

Our contoller doesn't sit fully in the udraw tablet. Is that right? Or does everyone's else's push in fully?

IShallWearMidnight · 13/07/2011 09:46

you need to take off the wriststrap in order to fit it in, we found. Just don't forget to put it back on when you're finished, otherwise it will get lost down the back of the sofa, and there will be stroppiness and Blaming of Sisters for losing it Wink

oricella · 13/07/2011 10:16

no, you don't need to take the strap off - there is a little cubbyhole at the back where you can store it in while keeping it attached

Triggles · 13/07/2011 10:19

We leave the wriststrap on and it fits in fine. You just need to tuck the plastic fastener part (of the strap) into the groove inside the right side of the slot for the remote on the tablet (okay not sure if that sounded a bit confusing or not Hmm). Anyway, that's what we do and it fits just fine, without taking off the strap.

But yes, I've noticed that once the remote is attached to the tablet, if you have to use the remote for something, it's not responsive. Some of the commands you can use the pen, but some seem to require the remote. (or perhaps we're just doing something wrong?) Anyone else finding that?

I find that trying to do the colouring book tends to make my eyes water a bit after awhile - it's quite small work on those abstract ones and nobody here seems to have very good coordination, as we're constantly colouring in the wrong sections as we can't get it lined up just right.

oricella · 13/07/2011 11:41

Triggles - we get that with the remote too; it's very annoying to set it all up and then having to pull out remote again to get the whole thing started, as the pen doesn't respond.. If anyone knows what we do wrong, please tell me

MrsSnaplegs · 13/07/2011 13:07

Well we tried Pictionary last night, definately a "team" game (not even played it in RL before Blush) My Dd was really good at guessing the pictures i drew even if they were really basic and she could draw some of the clues but she couldn't read them on her own and then when she had sounded them out phonetically she would shout out what she was supposed to be drawing Hmm - she still won in the end as I ended up doing all the drawing and she just guessed the answers. The only thing holding her back on it is her reading level and she is quite good for her age. We are trying Spongebob this afternoon after school as I am skiving out of work early picking her up from school as DS is poorly so Dh is staying home with him.
I just turned the volume down on the TV to get rid of the music but that probably doesn't work when the kids want to hear what is being said - if you are on your own it works Grin
With the colouring in their is an autofill option cheat look for the thing that looks like a paint pot in the tools and use that- you then only have to touch the area you want to fill and it does it automatically, great for large areas eg sky and it means you don't go over the lines Grin works with a small child who is a bit of a perfectionist with colouring in RL Wink

GypsyMoth · 13/07/2011 13:23

ds is swordfighting...again Hmm

its all he wants to do!

JemimaMuddledUp · 13/07/2011 13:24

My Wii has arrived! Grin

It came at 8am this morning just before I left for work so I didn't have much time to look at it, but we have Mariokart, Pictionary, Spongebob, udraw studio, wii sports and Kirby's epic yarn. Are we getting the dance one too or not?

LawrieMarlow · 13/07/2011 13:55

Hooray for your Wii Grin

No one has had the dance one yet ut I think it will come some time. And at least one more controller.

Was enjoying using iPlayer this morning :)

HereLiesDobbyAFreeElf · 13/07/2011 14:07

Yey Jemima! Have fun when you get in from work.

TheFeministsWife · 13/07/2011 19:44

I'm now a master at the Mario Karts thingy one. The kids love the udraw as does DH. Haven't played Sponge Bob or Pictionary yet. We had great fun making the Mii's. Although DSD wasn't impressed with the one I made of her - orange with loads of make up. [hgrin] DD1 was in a right mood this morning when she had to school leaving dd2, DSD and DH playing MarioKarts. First thing she said when she came out of school was, "It's MY turn on the Wii when we get home," [hgrin]

JemimaMuddledUp · 13/07/2011 20:24

Got home from work about 45 minutes ago and it is already set up and the DC are playing on it. It only took 5 mins to set up, but then I have used one before with work and so I knew roughly what to do. I the DC have been playing Wii Sports. I'm not sure I will ever get them to bed, thank goodness it is half day last day of term tomorrow!

stanausauruswrecks · 13/07/2011 21:43

Ours arrived on Saturday and so far we have tried Wii sport and sports resort, pictionary, and Spongebob squigglepants.
DS and I are Wii sports addicts - I have played tennis every night this week, and DS loves the swordfighting and air sports on the Sports resort(specifically shooting at buildings and crashing the plane). We tried the canoeing and wakeboarding, but ds and I found them quite difficult to play. I have even had DH (computer game hater) playing some tennis, golf and bowling - and I think he didn't hate it as much as he wanted to!
We played pictionary as well, but I think it's beyond the capabilities of a 5 year old, and that American gameshow voiceover is extremely irritating!!
All in all we're really enjoying the fact we can play as a family - can't wait until we get the extra controller!!

Bohica · 13/07/2011 21:56

Phew I found you all! My TIO isn't working so I had to trawl through search to get here.

Thanks WiiDram the camera arrived today, although it doesn't bode well as the only filming I did today was of a very stroppy/tired 3 year old who's answer to every question was an angry no!

I've taken all the games away apart from the Udraw so we can test it properly as it's the least used here at the minute. Although I am cautious to let my 3 & 7y old use the tablet with out my supervision as I'm worried they will pull the lead clear off & they can't click the controller in properly which causing frustration. It feels quiet flimsey for £50 +.

That said, I'm really enjoying SBSP Smile

Collision · 13/07/2011 23:03

Pictionary is amazing!!!!!!!!!!! We all love it!

DH loves spongebob as do the boys and we all love WiiSport.

Will film at the weekend as it is heavy rain forecasted!

Triggles · 14/07/2011 08:35

good grief, I hope they fix the "I'm On" thing soon. This whole "looking up the thread each time" is a pain and driving me crazy!!!!

We had an issue using the Spongebob and couldn't get it to play correctly. I think a quick browse of the instructions may be in order. Hmm
