We have another exciting product test for you - we are looking for 40 Mumsnetters who don't already have a Wii at home but would like to take part in "My First Wii Challenge" with Nintendo.

Nintendo say they "are keen to offer Wiis to 40 MN families to encourage them to spend fun time together as a family as well as give them the opportunity to test out some great games". If you already have a Wii, please look out for the feedback thread for this project as Nintendo would like to hear your views too (in exchange for a prize draw Grin).

If you are selected for the test you'll be sent a Wii console, handsets and nunchucks for all the family plus the following games:

uDraw GameTablet with uDraw Studio
Mario Kart
Kirby's Epic Yarn, and
Just Dance Jnrs

We'd then like you to take part in 4 weekly challenges with the Wii. This will involve playing with one game per week and adding your feedback to a thread on Mumsnet.

The challenge will start week commencing 4 July and last for 4 weeks - so please only apply if you are able to add feedback every week in July.

Ideally we're looking for MNers in the UK with at least 2 children.

After the challenge is completed and you have added at least 4 lots of feedback you will be able to keep the console and games for your family to enjoy.

In addition, we will need 10 of the families selected to film themselves and their family playing with the Wii. These videos will be used on the Nintendo pages on Mumsnet in the autumn and possibly elsewhere (they will be hosted on YouTube). If you are willing to undertake the video element please indicate this on the form link below. You will be supplied with a FlipCam (which will need to be returned). You will be briefed on filming requirements but it shouldn't be too onerous.

To sign up please add your details here

Good luck and many thanks

have recieved pictionary and spongebob here too!!!

IShallWearMidnight · 12/07/2011 15:22

the uDraw in itself isn't geat great tbh, nothing the DC can't and don't already do on paint on the computer. It's not something we would spend money on.

But, we played Pictionary this lunchtime, was supposed to be a quick 20 minutes to see what it was like, which turned into a 90 minute long game with much hilarity at DD1s inability to draw anythign recognisable apart from stick men swordfighting Hmm.

The Kirby's Epic Yarn game has also been a hit - DD3 (age 9) is probably the only DC I have in the target market for it, but DD2 (13) was enthralled with it today - it's quite deceptive in that it looks cute and cuddly, therefore "young", but she says the game itself is quite complex, and certainly a challenge. It's not something she woudl pick up off the shelf to buy, but if she played it somewhere else, she'd consider buying it herself (I say herself, it woudl be "Mumeeeee, cna we have this pleeeeeeease" Wink).

Loving Sports/Sports Resort though, but the additional controller will help a lot with that, as it's hard not being able to play each other.

JulesJules · 12/07/2011 16:14

Pictionary and SpongeBob have arrived! Thank you!

ProfYaffle · 12/07/2011 16:17

Pictionary and Sponge Bob have arrived! Dd2 actually screamed when she saw Sponge Bob, I had no idea she even knew who he was!

I agree udraw itself isn't that great, I thought dd2 would love it as she loves drawing and plays lots of the drawing type games on cbeebies but she's not that keen on it. Maybe the games will change things though.

MrsSnaplegs · 12/07/2011 16:23

Ok formal feedback on Udraw so far:

Udraw is ok for those that have some sort of artistic tendencies anyway, for those of us who gave up art at 14 it still doesn't make us great artists and I don't imagine it ever will. Personally I find the pen clumsy to hold and difficult to press on the nib. The programme itself is simple to use but there is very little to it. My DH is not interested in the slightest in it and has just looked at the stuff DD and I have done.
DD is 5 and has really understood the concept well and explored lots of areas but again struggles with the pen - she gets really frustrated (family traitGrin) if she accidentally clicks the button on the side and it keeps flipping between screens. She also struggles to get it to click on the item that she wants through the nib which again leads to frustration. She enjoys the colouring in section most as well as the stamps but doesn't really seem interested in the free hand art work and would much rather sit down with a pot of pens and some scrap paper. The selection of stamps is very restricted in each section - I think it is 9 for each topic, is there a way to upload more as you can with clip art?

We will try Pictionary and SBSP later when she is back from swimming.

Annmumsnet Can Nintendo be a little more specific about what they want us to film or have I missed that direction somewhere Confused ? Do they want us to film our family actually playing with the Wii or talking straight to the camera about it or both? How much filming do they want per week from us? How do we get the films to them, the camera only records an hour in total.

HereLiesDobbyAFreeElf · 12/07/2011 16:43

I can't remember re camera, do we have to send it back, or do we get to keep it?

HereLiesDobbyAFreeElf · 12/07/2011 16:48

Actually, just read the notes on the Email, and I never received a pre paid envelope with mine. Don't mind paying for the postage tbh, as I got the better deal Grin

MrsSnaplegs · 12/07/2011 17:24

I didn't get an envelope either

AnnMumsnet · 12/07/2011 17:38

Film makers - there were notes on filming sent to you by email. You don't need to film loads though! Will check re envelope

another thing about the Udraw - DD1 who is left handed says it's very very awkward to use if you need to use the controller thingy as well as the buttons on the pen as it's on the LH side. You can set the sports games to be right or left handed, so it would be helpful if the tablet was also able ot be both.

HereLiesDobbyAFreeElf · 12/07/2011 18:42

Good piont Isahll, DS1 is left handed although yet to try the udraw.

HumperdinkFangboner · 12/07/2011 18:42

No envelope here either.

Going to put the DC to bed and check out Pictionary!

ProfYaffle · 12/07/2011 19:16

I changed dh's mii and gave him HUGE comedy glasses and a droopy mustache. I wanted a tiny hat but couldn't find one.

Hours of fun ....

Bohica · 12/07/2011 19:28

Ann can you send me the filming instructions as I'm an extra to filming so wouldn't have been on the list, hence why I don't have a camera yet!

Now people have mentioned left handers & the Udraw, DD3 is 3 & holds the pen in her left hand & then uses her right hand to change colour etc, it's akward but doesn't stop her wanting to use it.

I have managed to get online & add the borrowed controller so I'm not as technophobic as I first thought.

The children have written their own reviews but I will wait for the official thread before letting them type it all out.

HereLiesDobbyAFreeElf · 12/07/2011 19:57

ProfYaffle, I just snorted ginger beer out my nose reading that.

Ann, do we have to play the art game when revieing or any game? I We had a go at SBSP and it was great!

ProfYaffle · 12/07/2011 20:23

He's noticed the glasses but not the mustache Confused

Fennel · 12/07/2011 20:52

We don't have the envelope to return the video camera either.

Spongebob and Pictionary arrived today, which was exciting.

We have been filming a few bits of the dds drawing individually on the Udraw. This evening we attempted to film a Happy Family Peacefully Playing Pictionary.

Oh dear. Utter failure. dd3 couldn't get the hang of it and dd1 and dd2 got upset. We had to pack them all off to bed with dire threats that if they can't play nicely for the camera for 5 minutes we will have to send the Wii to a nice family that can....

They aren't usually THAT squabbly but I guess it's all still quite exciting to them. We will try again tomorrow. I don't think Nintendo want lots of footage of squalling and crying. DP says we should put it as formal feedback that it's making the dc fight.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 12/07/2011 21:07

We had tears on camera too today when ds1 came last in the mario cart - I was torn between filming and consoling Blush

Just tried Spongebob - it's way too difficult and fast for our ds's (5 and 3), but I found it strangely addictive!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 12/07/2011 21:08

Oh, and no returns envelope for the camera either.

IShallWearMidnight · 12/07/2011 21:16

anyone else finding the uDraw not very sensitive? We also don't like the fact it doesn't scroll, as most other gadget-ty things do nowadays, I get really frustrated having to move the pen in real space to draw things.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 12/07/2011 21:31

No all that sensitive and having to hold it more or less vertical is a pita.

We keep pressing the thing on the side without meaning to aswell - while I just find it annoying, ds1 flies off the handle completely after a couple of mis-presses!

Fennel · 12/07/2011 21:34

Udraw, the basic drawing thing, has been quite popular with mine, they all do a lot of art and drawing normally. dds are 11, 9, 7 so a bit older than quite a few on this thread I think, so they can be patient (apart from tonight's pictionary fiasco) with good fine motor control.
Dp and I think it's easier to put pencil to paper, but we are clearly out of touch, or at least not the target market.

GypsyMoth · 12/07/2011 21:42

yes fennel. my ds is almost 13 and spent ages on sunday drawing. testing out all the different effects etc.

the 2 udraw games came today, but i've hidden them from him til the weekend as he's got access days at upper school this week and he doesnt need distractions! i know he'll love them. both teen girls have had a good play on udraw too......ds is left handed and found it fine.

seems to be for the older ones!

Adair · 12/07/2011 21:48

Not just older ones! My dd loves the tABlet (I don't see the point either Confused) but then she has got very good motor control/drawing for her age... Was weird seeing her sort out pictionary and find all the tools and that without us showing her (she plays lots of drawing games but... eek).

Ds is 3 and finds it hilarious that he draws on the tablet and it shows on the screen. His favourite thing so far has been 'waking up' the pirate on spongebob (we have done it A Lot). I love Spongebob - think it willl be a favourite...

GypsyMoth · 12/07/2011 21:52

with 5 dc i dont know how i've avoided spongebob all these years! know nothing about him.

i'll be aching in the morning, been on the sports boxing. i was good, but i had to work hard!!

mario kart is a big hit here
