We have another exciting product test for you - we are looking for 40 Mumsnetters who don't already have a Wii at home but would like to take part in "My First Wii Challenge" with Nintendo.

Nintendo say they "are keen to offer Wiis to 40 MN families to encourage them to spend fun time together as a family as well as give them the opportunity to test out some great games". If you already have a Wii, please look out for the feedback thread for this project as Nintendo would like to hear your views too (in exchange for a prize draw Grin).

If you are selected for the test you'll be sent a Wii console, handsets and nunchucks for all the family plus the following games:

uDraw GameTablet with uDraw Studio
Mario Kart
Kirby's Epic Yarn, and
Just Dance Jnrs

We'd then like you to take part in 4 weekly challenges with the Wii. This will involve playing with one game per week and adding your feedback to a thread on Mumsnet.

The challenge will start week commencing 4 July and last for 4 weeks - so please only apply if you are able to add feedback every week in July.

Ideally we're looking for MNers in the UK with at least 2 children.

After the challenge is completed and you have added at least 4 lots of feedback you will be able to keep the console and games for your family to enjoy.

In addition, we will need 10 of the families selected to film themselves and their family playing with the Wii. These videos will be used on the Nintendo pages on Mumsnet in the autumn and possibly elsewhere (they will be hosted on YouTube). If you are willing to undertake the video element please indicate this on the form link below. You will be supplied with a FlipCam (which will need to be returned). You will be briefed on filming requirements but it shouldn't be too onerous.

To sign up please add your details here

Good luck and many thanks

Well ours arrived on Sat am just as we were leaving to visit the inlaws. We set it up last night when we got back and the children LOVE it. Actually we all do. DS1 (6) and DS2 (3) are obsessed with boxing and sword fighting on Wii Sports.

They are very much NOT impressed with udraw - we are the least artistic family in the world and neither of them ever draw for fun. So we had half an hour on udraw, now we're back on the swordfighting. I may have to bribe them to actually play on udraw - or threaten to return the Wii to Nintendo - because they think it's really boring.

(tbh I'm with them, I much prefer the swordfighting)

We LOVE the fact that you can watch BBC iplayer - it's totally fab, hampered only by bandwidth.

Bloody Wii. Just cost me £25 in new printer ink so the DC can print out their UDraw pictures. Why are we not being issued with ink cartridges eh Nintendo Grin?

JemimaMuddledUp · 11/07/2011 18:20
Sad

I had the email saying that we would get one (we were first reserve and somebody dropped out). So I told the DC and they are really excited. Then we got another email over the weekend and it looks as though the Wii has been sent to the person who dropped out and we haven't had anything. AnnMumsnet did say she was trying to sort something out, but I haven't heard anything else. I don't think it is looking hopeful.

I haven't told the DC yet Sad

HereLiesDobbyAFreeElf · 11/07/2011 18:28

Oh Jemima :( Hope they sort it for you.

My Dc love Kirbys Epic Yarn, its quite a good kids platform game.

Annmumsnet, when are we to test drive the udraw?

AnnMumsnet · 11/07/2011 18:28

jemima...they are picking up the wii from the wrong delivery tomorrow and will forward it on to you asap - not sure when it will get to you, but it will.

There will be a formal feedback thread, but it's fine to chat away on here anyway. Grin

Anyone received their extra controllers or Dance Jr game?

DS isn't too impressed with the udraw, he had a go after school, he liked that you could colour in dinosaurs but that's about it. DD (3) likes the stamps but it's a bit fiddly for her and being called to change the colour/pen every 20 seconds got tedious VERY quickly! I think on it's own it's a bit dull TBH but with Pictionary and other games it could be much better (hopefully).

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 11/07/2011 20:27

Noting more received here but the good news is that my Wii fit age is 34 which is 1 year younger than I really am! This is after just one go, I'm sure I'll be quite youthful with a bit of practise Grin

My children are 9 and 6 Bohica. And very excited about getting a Wii!

Our box arrived today and DH did as he was told selflessly held off from opening it until I got home from work!

We got a black Wii with one remote, nunchuk, resort/sports and Udraw, Kirby's Yarn and MarioKart.

It seemed quite straightforward to set up although I haven't connected to the internet yet for the BBC iplayer.

There was not much time before bed so they just put the Kirby game in and had about 20 mins each. Much squeaking! They have played on a Wii before at friends houses, so I think they will be showing us how to do it. I think we will have a couple of days of trying all the games out, I'll work out the internet connection, and then we will start properly on the Udraw. Is it worth getting Pictionary?

Bohica · 11/07/2011 21:06

Glad to here people are slowly receiving the last of the Wii's.

Jules your children would love pictionary & sponge bob is going down well here as they like the challange games on it.

Pictionary is great for an interactive board game & the girls 9 & 7 are really good on it, well they make a better team than me & our 3 year old Smile

The favourite today is the Wii resort/sport which will be even funnier when we get extra controllers so we can fight play against each other.

MarioKart will also be better when we can challange each other & you don't really need the steering wheel.

Our games & console are still lying infront of the TV as I haven't found anywhere to store it all so no rush on that camera WiiDram there's a love.

WiiDram · 11/07/2011 21:41

i have to post it tomorrow as its the only day the local post office is open! [middle of nowhere emoticon]

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 11/07/2011 21:49

I've bought wicker baskets today for all of the junk bits that we've acquired

Bohica · 11/07/2011 21:53

Thank you Wii I'm working all week so will have to bribe the DC with the feather duster v more Wii time Grin

JulesJules · 11/07/2011 21:57

Shouldn't that be wiicker baskets, Iwish?

Got ours today too... managed to get it set up and try a bit of U-draw with the DC; not off to a great start tbh - the 2 (nearly 3 year old) is struggling with the remote, plus is too impatient to pay attention to instructions; my nearly 5 year old had a go at using the stamps, but seemed more inclined to return to real paper. Then switched to some bowling on the sports, but quickly switched it all off after an almighty tantrum that DD1 wanted a pink bowling ball, just like DD2... (note to Nintendo: can we have adjustable bowling ball colours please)

On the plus side, lots of giggles coming from the living room where DP is trying to canoe.. by the sound of it he's sinking Grin

ProfYaffle · 12/07/2011 06:45

I'm really surprised how popular Kirkby's Epic Yarn is. At first glance it looked like the dullest game of the lot (sorry!) but both dd's really love it. dh and dd1 were playing it last night (borrowed an extra controller from bil) and it was lovely to see them playing a game on an equal footing and working as a team.

Without wishing to look a gifthorse in the mouth I think without the extra controllers Nintento aren't really getting what they're looking for with this product test, ie the whole family playing a game together in a sociable fashion.

ShatnersBassoon · 12/07/2011 09:10

"Without wishing to look a gifthorse in the mouth I think without the extra controllers Nintento aren't really getting what they're looking for with this product test, ie the whole family playing a game together in a sociable fashion."

I've been thinking the same. I've had to turn the Wii off a couple of times when squabbling and impatience has got out of hand. At the moment it's not the inclusive, sociable experience I'd anticipated!

I hope the extra contollers will be arriving in the 'from Germany' package.

Jaquelinehyde · 12/07/2011 09:11

Wow my post ahs just been and I got another parcel from Nintendo! Shock

We no have Spongebob Squgglepants for the udraw and pictionary Grin

My life is complete (or at least will be when we get the extra controllers and I can stop sharing)

ProfYaffle · 12/07/2011 09:15

Just one controller makes it everyone else watching one person play. Exactly like the dd's used to do with dh playing Zelda on his old X box.

But I'm not going to say any more, we're very happy to have the wii and I don't want to moan!

ShatnersBassoon · 12/07/2011 09:23

ProfYaffle, I think it's OK to have a little grumble about the lack of controllers. It is a product test, not just a free gift.

When the extra controllers arrive we'll all be gushing about how marvelous it is for the whole family to play together without arguing, having spent a week breaking up fights.

LawrieMarlow · 12/07/2011 09:41

I am confused about all the types of controller that seem to exist. What sort is the one we have? Are we definitely going to get more or should I be getting some more? Do we have the sort that costs £30 in which case I am unlikely to get any more or can you use a cheaper one?

I do realise I sound like I am moaning a bit but I would like to be able to play games with more than one person doing it at once. Although so far DS and DD are being quite reasonable about taking turns (and I have my turn once they've gone to bed Grin)

HumperdinkFangboner · 12/07/2011 09:42

Just had a delivery of Pictionary and Spongebob of the postman.

Thank you Nintendo Smile

HumperdinkFangboner · 12/07/2011 09:43

Eek at appalling grammar in last post Blush
