Warburtons have launched two new products - Square(ish) Wraps and Sandwich Thins and they're looking for 30 Mumsnetters to sign up to try them and come up with some [hopefully!] exciting recipes. Here's what Warburtons say about the two products:

"We've created Square(ish) Wraps and Sandwich Thins - top, roll or fold our Square(ish) Wraps with your favourite hot or cold fillings to create tasty lunchtime options or quick and easy suppers to keep the whole family happy. Warburtons Sandwich Thins are the new 'skinny' bread on the block and can be topped, filled or toasted with whatever takes your fancy. With 100 calories per Thin, they are ideal as a light lunchtime option."

For more information about the products, including nutritional and allergy information, please click here.

Warburtons would like testers to come up with recipes using the products, post them on a feedback thread on Mumsnet and then email us photos of your creations for possible use on the Warburtons page on Mumsnet (coming soon!). Selected testers will be sent a hamper containing the two products, shopping vouchers to buy ingredients for their recipes and a few other goodies.

The best recipes will then be chosen to feature on the Warburtons page on Mumsnet and all those who submit a recipe and photo will be entered into a competition to win an adventure weekend at a UK theme park for their family. All testers who put a recipe on the thread (as well as any other feedback they want to give about the products) will also be entered into a prize draw to win a £150 voucher for M&S.

This product test is open to all UK Mumsnetters who are available to take part in the next couple of weeks. If you are selected for this project, the hampers will be sent out next week and we'd like testers to use the product and tell us about their recipes in the next week or two.

If you are interested in taking part please sign up here.

Thanks

Ok, all ours have gone now, both packs!
Yesterday for tea we used the wraps to make toasties, unfortunately my camera ran out of power as I was about to take photos, so there are no more photos.

Cheese Toasties
Spread butter/marg over one side of wraps, scatter over some grated cheese/whatever you fancy, fold in half and press down the edges which will seal it. Butter/spray with oil both sides of sandwich and either grill, put in toastie/George Foreman or you could even cook it in a dry frying pan!

This morning I did a packed lunch for my son to take out with him, using a wrap. So much easier to make than usual wraps, just butter one side, add grated cheese and wafer thin ham, a little squeeze of brown sauce all over then roll up and slice in two.

Lastly for lunch I used the last of the sandwich thins to make :

Mushroom Pockets
Slice chestnut mushrooms and lightly fry in tiny bit of olive oil. Fill sandwich thins with the mushrooms, lightly butter/sray with oil both sides of the sandwich and place back in the same frying pan used to do the mushrooms, and cook for about a minute a side. Slice and serve with a salad...they are lovely!

I really hoope these make it to the shelves, I will definately buy them.

FourFortyFour · 13/03/2011 13:26

I went to Sainsbury's to get more and they are not selling them Confused.

TotorosOcarina · 13/03/2011 13:48

I thought they weren' 'out yet' thas the whole point of us trying/testing them?!

TotorosOcarina · 13/03/2011 13:50

I love them BTW, have used the small squares for a ham salad sandwich, another toasted with bacon on and another with tuna mayo.

Am trying to think of something more flamboyant to do its its either on the packet already or on this thread!

I think they are just fab,

FourFortyFour · 13/03/2011 13:56

Ooops! Grin

Who says sandwiches for Sunday lunch are boring?

We've just had....

Prawn Cocktail and Rocket on the Sandwich Thins
That doesn't need a step-by-step recipe surely?

Quesadillias on Square-ish Wraps
Lay out 1 Square-ish Wrap, spread with Tomato Salsa (I used Cool because Im a wimp DS was sharing but you could use Hot for a kick), Add a scattering of Veg (we had green, yellow and red peppers but Mushrooms, Jalapeneos and Red Onions would work too) and a good sprinkling of Cheese.
Add another Square-ish Wrap on top and press down.
Pre-heat a pan. I usually use a frying pan but it doesn't work so well for Square-ish Wraps so we used the griddle pan instead which had the advantage of adding nice stripes to the Quesadillas.
Warm till the cheese is melted.
Remove from the pan, cut into manageable pieces and serve with some sour cream for dipping.
Leave to cool for little ones as the Cheese and Salsa will be hot.
This is easily halved, just fold 1 wrap in half rather than use two.

Then my sweet tooth won over and I made....

Ice Cream Boats with the Square-ish Wraps
I cut a wrap in half, the folded the halves in half and used paperclips to hold them together.

I then opened them up to make a canoe shape, placed them on a baking tray and sprayed them with a bit of oil. The clipped wraps went in a cool oven (about 120) for 10 minutes until they were crisp and held their shape.
While they were cooking, I got DS to make me a sail.
Once cool, I filled the 'boats' with fruit. I taped the sail to a straw mast and arranged it so it stood in the middle of the boat. It was a bit wobbly, so we added strawberry laces ropes to help hold it up.
We then added Ice Cream. I've never seen DS so excited about pudding before - DH has taken him swimming now to burn off all the sugar Grin

Not to be left out, I made myself Jam Not So Roly Poly with a Sandwich Thin
I opened a Sandwich Thin and spread one side with Jam and the other with Custard.
I put then together and sprinkled the top with a little caster sugar then put it under the grill. Once golden, I turned it over, added a little more sugar and grilled until golden again.
The Sandwich Thin worked really well for this as the little holes held the sprinkled sugar really well and the crustiness of the outside grilled nicely without going dry. The soft inside stayed soft and soaked up the filling.
It was like a Jam Roly Poly Sandwich and it was Yummy. Or at least the half I got was! DH pinched the other half Angry
We'll definitely be making those again.

I took a load of photos so I'll mail them over now MNHQ

I'm thinking the Sandwich Thins would make a great Grilled Cheese sandwich too

thecatatemygymsuit · 13/03/2011 14:52

This morning I transformed the sandwich thins into a mircaulous hangover cure, a kind of croque madame with a twist:

Lightly grill two sandwich thins on both sides, then cover one side with grated cheddar and grill.
Add liberal amounts of jamon iberico (ponce emoticon?) and top with an almost perfectly poached egg.
Season to taste and serve with a lovely huge cup of tea.

Hangover: Sorted.

I even have pics but who do I email them to please?

Later am going to use the square-ish wraps as follows:
Chop into c. 6-8 small squares, lightly toast, then top with rare roast beef, rocket and strong horseradish sauce.

Blatherskite · 13/03/2011 14:54

The address is on the e-mail mumsnet sent you thecatatemygymsuit. Insight@ something I think

thecatatemygymsuit · 13/03/2011 15:01

Thanks Blatherskite. Just noticed what a lot of competitive sandwiching there is on this thread.. probably the most creative I have ever been in the kitchen!

thecatatemygymsuit · 13/03/2011 15:03

Plus I see that most people are also feeding their offspring with the products and not just scoffing them all themselves Blush.

weblette · 13/03/2011 15:03

Alas, evil Tesco does have them Grin

Stocked up on our 'creation' stuff, will see what mood I'm in after the rugby!

Blatherskite · 13/03/2011 15:43

I'm sure Warburtons were hoping for a bit of 'competitive sandwiching' thecatatemygymsuit. They're not going to want to fork out for 50 lots of wraps/thins/notebooks/vouchers if they were just going to get a thread full of cheese and pickle now are they Grin

BornToFolk · 13/03/2011 16:49

Grin at competitive sandwiching!
I've made my list, costed it up using the Sainsbury's website and I'm off to the shops tomorrow.
I plan to make a wrap with tofu and sweet chili sauce, and another one with beans and cheese.

DS and I have already shared a sandwich thin toasted with peanut butter which got the thumbs up from both of us.

Cosy up pizza with garlic bread thins

Ingredients: (for four people)

Two square(ish) wraps
Two Sandwich thins
Cheese strings X 2
Cheddar or other nice cheese X 2 tblsp (grated)
Half an onion (diced)
Passata (four tablespoons)
Garlic paste (1/2 teaspoon)
Black pepper
Leftover chicken, beef or gammon (we used gammon and chicken)
Butter (1 tablespoon)
Origano (1/2 teaspoon)

Method:
(1) Heat oven to 200 degrees
(2) Find a baking tray big enough to take the wrap plus the thins.
(3) Spread the open side of the thins with butter (salted is best)
(4) Spread a thin layer of garlic paste over the top
(5) Sprinkle with origano (note small people may prefer you to add parsley if they are not big garlic fans yet).
(6) Place on baking tray
(7) Lay out one wrap.
(8) Cube the cheese string into thin chunks and place round the outside as if you are creating a frame
(9) Sprinkle approx 1 tbsp of the other cheese across the top of the wrap.
(10) Lay second wrap on top to cover first one (this creates a stuffed cheesy crust which is very elastic thanks to the cheese string, it also prevents the crust going to dry when cooking).
(11) Spread passata, herbs, and a little garlic on the top wrap. Add black pepper to taste.
(12) Let small people create the rest of the topping with the onion, chicken, whatever. This means they get to pick their bit and are much more likely to eat it when it's done.
(13) Cook both the pizza and the thins for ten minutes or until the meat (if you've used it) is piping hot.

Note, due to the dual layer base, once it's cooked this is a very stable pizza so you can eat it on the sofa without making a mess!

whomovedmychocolate · 13/03/2011 17:32

NB the sofa idea is the cosy up bit (although it could also refer to the wraps cosying up to one another in their cheesy inferno. Wink )

MayorNaze · 13/03/2011 19:45

i am going shopping tomorrow...

watch this space

especially you, goaty one...

DurhamDurham · 13/03/2011 20:57

With the last of our wraps we made some of these:
Cheese, Chutney and Pepper wraps

Chargrilled peppers (1/2 a red and 1/2 a green pepper sliced in 1cm thick strips)
Sliced avocado
Green chutney
Thinly sliced cheese
Warburtons Square wraps

Layer the fillings on to a wrap and roll or fold depending on how much filling you have used.

If you have time (which my mum does) to make your own chutney the recipe is v easy

DurhamDurham's mum's Homemade Green Chutney:

Clove garlic
2 handfuls coriander
Handful of mint
1 green chilli (or 2 if you like it hot!)
Juice of half a lemon
Teaspoon sugar
Salt
Blitz in a blender to a semi-smooth paste,no cooking required!

crunchbag · 13/03/2011 21:22

I received the box before the email so it was a nice surprise :)

So far we have only tried out the squares, as a wrap and pizza style. The pack wasn't easy to rip open as suggested but scissors did the trick. We all like the flavour of the squares, especially the kids (age 5 and 9). We found the squares slightly to thick to use as a wrap as you can't wrap them tightly enough without ripping them especially when you try to make a fold at one end. Rolling them diagonally was better but I wouldn't use them for lunch boxes as the contents would spill to easily. Using the squares as a pizza base was a success, tasteful, quick and easy. I would buy them as base for pizza like dishes, depending on the price.

Recipe
Tarte Flambee/ Flammenkueche

Ingredients (for 2 squares)

  • 200 ml creme fraiche
  • 300 gr bacon, sliced
  • 2 red onions, sliced in rings
  • goats cheese
  • feta cheese
  • pepper

Method

  • pre-heat oven gas mark 6
  • fry the bacon and onions
  • spread the creme fraiche over the squares
  • scatter the bacon and onions mixture over the creme fraiche
  • top with slices of goats cheese and feta
  • season with pepper
  • oven bake for about 15 minutes until cheese is melted and slightly browned.

I will try to upload a photo later.

I will report back later this week with the Thins review :)

TheSkiingGardener · 14/03/2011 09:22

Morning,

Am just making a Quiche-ish Lorraine with a square wrap. Have to say I love the packaging for the wraps with the resealing strip. Brilliant in this house.

Quiche-ish Lorraine

50 ml milk
100 ml double cream
2 eggs
100g cheddar, grated
2 rashers streaky bacon
1/2 a small onion, chopped
pepper
Tomato slices

Find a dish that you can persuade the square-ish wrap to line.
Gently fry the bacon and onion until cooked and sprinkle over the square-ish wrap
Whisk together the eggs, milk, double cream and pepper and pour over the bacon and onion
Sprinkle the cheese on top
Garnish with some slices of tomato if wanted

Bake for 20 minutes at 160C or until set

IlsaLund · 14/03/2011 12:40

I've just used the squarish wraps

My recipe is an adaptation of one from the Pioneer Woman's website

Fry a packet of lardons (or a pack of bacon cut into strips) until crispy

Hard boil 3 eggs - deshelled and roughly chopped

Grate a generous amount of cheddar cheese (about 3 handfuls)

Combine bacon, cheese and eggs together using a dollop of maisonaise, a teaspoon of mustard and a splash of Worcestershire sauce. This is to bind the mixture so you don't need too much

Cut two squarish wraps in half (purely for ease of handling - you could use them whole)

Cover generously with the bacon/cheese/egg mixture - grill for a few minutes until the cheese has melted and turned golden brown.

weblette · 14/03/2011 12:55

We used ours up yesterday with three 'creations'. I'll preface the recipes by saying that I am a bit of a short-cut cook so usually put together 'semi-prepared' ingredients.

  1. Sausage Crostini - filling from three sausages, teaspoon of crushed fennel, 100g-ish of taleggio cheese cubed.

Mix together, spread over halved Sandwich Thins, into the oven for 12 mins.

(Would work just as well with tomatoes and mozzarella for a bruschetta type thing)

  1. Cheat's Lasagne - bolognaise sauce (I always have some in the freezer), mozzarella, wraps, fresh basil.

Tear wrap to fit dish, layer of sauce, pieces of mozzarella, layer of wrap - repeat until dish full, scatter basil on top. In oven for 15 mins.

  1. Bean burritos - small tin of refried beans, 1/2 tin of three bean salad, chopped green jalapenos - as many as you can stand!, tomato salsa, creme fraiche, grated cheese.

Mix the beans together with the jalapenos, tear the wraps in half widthway - place large dollop of bean mix in the middle and roll it up. Place in an overnproof dish - when dish full cover in salsa, add creme fraiche on top and finally a sprinkling of cheese. In the oven for 15 mins.

DCs loved the lasagne. The wraps came out beautifully soft from the oven when baked. Really saved time and tasted great. They cooked far better than I expected. Bean burritos were yummy, we slightly overcooked the crostini but still tasted fine.

DCs thoroughly enjoyed the experimenting and we'll probably buy them again.

BornToFolk · 14/03/2011 12:58

I've just made some tofu and sweet chili wraps.

Ingredients
Marinated tofu pieces
Cucumber
Spring onion
Sweet chili dipping sauce

Method
Heat the tofu pieces in a frying pan.
Cut the cucumber and onion into matchsticks.
Put the tofu onto a squarish wrap and drizzle with a liberal amount of chili sauce.
Add the cucumber and onion, wrap up, take a photo and eat!

I did enjoy it but I think that ordinary wraps work better at wrapping. These wraps are a bit thicker, which is nice as they are more substantial but it makes them harder to wrap. I think they might work better as a hot wrap and am planning a cheese and bean hot wrap for lunch on Weds.

Tomorrow will be mozzarella pearl and antipasti open sandwiches using the sandwich thins.

Oh, and I am annoyed by the wrap packet. I tore it where indicated and it ripped downwards, past the resealable bit. I've put them in the freezer until I need them again on Weds so it's not the end of the world but it is slightly annoying.

Hi

Thanks for all the delicious sounding recipes so far...the official feedback thread is here.
