Do any of you have any dubious connections with famous people.. for example my best friend at school stroked Eric Claptons dog,and another friend of mine ,during our nursing training, tested Dick Emerys urine!!!!!
also I used to see an osteopath who later went on to treat Emma Bs (spice girl) mum.

oo - and my boss has a gold disc hanging on his wall from his previous life in a band called after the fire!

spacemonkey · 08/04/2003 07:53

dp was on the rolf harris show when he was about 8

sed · 08/04/2003 08:14

Spacemonkey - I remember After the Fire. Tell your boss that One Rule for You was a great formative song for me, and that hearing the band at Greenbelt was fantastic. (Am I starting to sound old???)

megg · 08/04/2003 08:56

I forgot I ran over George Burley with the buggy in Gatwick Airport Duty Free. He was a lot shorter than I imagined.

Tortington · 08/04/2003 08:56

rhubarb went to school with....Mark Owen ( ex take that - winner big brother)

Ghosty · 08/04/2003 09:29

I have a few dubious ones ....
An ancestor of mine invented the postage stamp (yawn!)
My mum had her picture taken with Roy Castle ...
I saw George Best in a pub once (who hasn't?)
My brother had dinner with Madonna and Guy Ritchie once ...
He also, through his work, got quite friendly with David Frost and his family ....
My sister poured a pint over Andrew Ridgeley's head ...
The best one is this though ...
My dad works in the music industry and used to travel a lot. Once he came home and said he had met a pop group called 'The Cops'. It turned out it was 'The Police' and then he said that he had had a nice chat with one of them 'I think his name was 'Wasp' or 'Stung' or something' ... 'Sting' by any chance?, I said and he said, 'Oh yes ... that was the one'
'Did you get his autograph by any chance, Dad?'
'Oh, was I supposed to?'
Doh .... didn't speak to him for a week!!!!!

lou33 · 08/04/2003 09:32

Spacemonkey, dp was on the Rolf Harris Show?!!! Wait til I see him again!!!!

CAM · 08/04/2003 09:34

dh was on the cover of NME in the front row at a concert in the 70's
I have served (as a waitress, obviously) Terence Stamp (fab), Alvin Stardust (yuck,we stood in the kitchen singing "ma coo-cachoo" so he heard and didn't leave a tip)
I was in a coffee shop in New Orleans at the same time as Tim Roth
I was chatted up by an 80's pop star in Brighton (Glenn somebody - I didn't fancy him)
Arthur Smith tried to chat me up once (yuck)
I have stood next to the Queen at Badminton Horse Trials
My mum is good friends with John Ely, the TV chef-vicar
Peter Sissons and Bob Reeves came into an art gallery I worked in
Saw Jeremy Hardy in queue in Safeways
Saw Steven Berkoff wiping dog poo off his shoe in the street
Walked past Chris Eubank and Erasure
Sat next to Debbie Moore (of Pineapple Studios) at a 30th b/day party
Wish I'd met, seen or been chatted up by someone I fancy.

allatsea · 08/04/2003 09:57

Top this - my mum's brother's wife's sister's husband's father's brother's son is the pope!
Oh, and my Mum had Jeffrey Archer to dinner in the 60s He was a creep apparantly!

Caroline5 · 08/04/2003 11:23

Embarrassed, I was in Stoke Bishop for my first year, then lived in Cotham. I did languages (left 1989). My friend met Lembit O'Pik ( janh!) at the student union. I didn't really know him very well.

You??

Snugs · 08/04/2003 11:38

Kissed Bernard Breslaw (big bloke in Carry On movies) - I was 6.

Got steaming drunk at a barbie with Roland Gift (Fine Young Cannibals).

Shook hands with Prince Philip.

Met the Housemartins (aka Beautiful South) before they were famous.

rainbow · 08/04/2003 11:47

my dad was in the London gang show.(it finished in 1974 before my time) He met a load of famous people, one's I had heard of amazingly, Morecambe and Wise, Cilla Black, Jim Davidson, Billy Cotton(never heard of him but he was famous for his band show apparently!!) Also my best mate's cousin went to school with David Beckham!

Jzee · 08/04/2003 12:05

My dad interviewed and spent time with the Beatles and Bob Marley - years ago of course! I met U2 after bragging my way into their hotel when I was young and naughty!

munchbunch · 08/04/2003 12:07

Keepingmum- ooh, how exciting, another one of hte Staines Massive. Do I know you???

Forgot to say that my aunt's cousin is Vanessa Feltz and my sister's cousin by marriage was that guy that acted in The Graduate with Jerry Hall. Now we are getting tenuous....

breeze · 08/04/2003 12:35

Forgot that at school had my photo taken with Kris Akabusi and Roger Black, and met Dave Prowse when he was the green cross code man, although known better as Darth Vader.

rainbow · 08/04/2003 12:40

Before my Grandma moved, she lived next door to Helen Mirren's Aunt!

slug · 08/04/2003 13:22

I went to the London premier of Four Weddings and a Funeral and met LOADS of celebs including Liz Hurly in THAT dress. Unfortunately I was just off the boat from NZ and had no idea who most of them were, though I did recognise Stephen Fry.

NQWWW · 08/04/2003 13:28

I used to know Ridley Scott's son - he came to a party we had once. He was absolutely gorgeous (and the car in Thelma and Louise belonged to him).

I used to babysit with an agency, and have babysat for the kids of:

Bjork
Bob Geldof
David Bailey
Neil from the Young Ones (watched his wedding video which was hilarious)
The author of "Pearls"
William Waldegrave (whose wife didn't know what time the kids went to bed - told me to speak to the nanny)

My ex-boyfriend went to Uni with Tiger from the Double Deckers.
I kissed Paul Weller after a gig once.
I keep seeing Jack Dee and his kids at the playground.
I sat next to Charlie from Casualty on the bus at Bristol Airport, then saw him in my local offie a few days later.
Was in my local organic food shop while Jamie Oliver was trying to film in there - he kept walking in and out (probably cos we all kept turning round to look at him and they couldn't get a natural-looking shot).
Also saw Paul McGann in a health food shop in Bristol - nearly swooned.
I used to live in a flat above Kirsty MacColl's Mum.
Had a good long chat with Courtney Pine (yes he is famous) at the Brecon Jazz Festival.

Do I win?

Mocha · 08/04/2003 17:33

I have met and had my photo taken with Dwight Yorke. It was when he played for Aston Villa, just before he moved to Manchester United. He used to live next door to DP's aunt and he was at her 60th birthday.

janh · 08/04/2003 17:44

NQWWW, tell us about the celebrity brats, please!!! (Esp the Geldofs - I've always assumed they are lovely kids but would be interested to have it confirmed!)

WideWebWitch · 08/04/2003 19:17

Oooh yes NQWWW, please do spill on the celeb brats! I think you might win. I'd be envious if you'd seen Paul Weller in a shop and kissed Paul McGann but since it's the other way around I'm not

Chinchilla · 08/04/2003 20:23

My dh went to school with Damon and Graham from Blur. I have been kissed by Dale Winton when I did the pilot for 'The Other Half'. He was a right luvvy. Dh says that Damon used to get beaten up all the time at school, and that he was a real tw*t.

jobey · 08/04/2003 20:46

not my claim to fame but I worked with someone who went to a gig in London and Damon from Blur pissed on his shoe in the urinals. He was so proud bless him.

spacemonkey · 08/04/2003 23:54

oo talk of blur made me remember dave rowntree (blur drummer) played at my wedding - he wasn't in blur then tho!

spacemonkey · 08/04/2003 23:56

Sed - i'll pass the message on, he'll be delighted! (My boss is Memory Banks btw hehe)
