Do any of you have any dubious connections with famous people.. for example my best friend at school stroked Eric Claptons dog,and another friend of mine ,during our nursing training, tested Dick Emerys urine!!!!!
also I used to see an osteopath who later went on to treat Emma Bs (spice girl) mum.

Forgot to add - Noel Edmonds invited MIL to use his toilet and go up in his helicopter - she refused both...

grommit · 07/04/2003 19:23

Embarrassed - is Lembit Opek irish? I seem to remember someone by that name when I was a teenager - I am sure no-one else could have that name. Think one of my friends went out with him...

Mo2 · 07/04/2003 19:33

Grommit - Lembit Opik the Lib Dem MP is definitely Irish - I saw him on Have Got News For You - I assume it's the same Lembit Opik Embarrassed is talking about - there can't be more than one person with a name like that surely!!!

Claireandrich · 07/04/2003 19:34

Very weak link for me but my friend's uncle is a film director. He did one of the recent James Bond films (the one with the Millenium Done in the starting credits. Also did Gorillas in the mist.

Oh I once said hello during breakfast at the St. Leger Race Meeting to John McCirruck (sp???) whilst I was doing some bar work there one summer holidays.

megg · 07/04/2003 19:34

Dp lived across the road from Bryan Ferry's auntie and his sister went out with his cousin. My friend turned down Kirk Stevens and miffed him even more by not knowing who he is. My dad used to see Princess Anne when he walked the dog, she said Prince Philip got bad tempered if she was late. And I got asked out by George Clooney. Ok ok only in my dreams.

SoupDragon · 07/04/2003 19:38

As a baby, I was bathed by the wife of Alan Mullery (old footballer now football pundit) and possibly Alan himself.

EmmaTMG · 07/04/2003 19:45

Oh I forgot this one. My Grandad used to live across the road from Christoper Biggins and Jimmy sommerville9although not together) who used to wave at me from inside his kitchen when I was a starstruck 6 yr old.
This is quite a big one too. My sister usd to go to school with Liz Hurley(she just reminded me when I phoned her to ask who it was that lived opposite Grandad) and said she wore really short skirts and had really long hair, longer than her skirt length infact. Liz Hurley, she's like really famous.

EmmaTMG · 07/04/2003 19:45

Oh and as a baby my dad as kissed by the Queen Mum.

Caroline5 · 07/04/2003 20:00

I was also at uni with Lembit Opik (but no snogging), however he was pals with my flat-mate. Don't think he's Irish though, thought his family was from Russia (Estonia or somewhere like that??!)

Embarrassed, do I know you???

zebra · 07/04/2003 20:16

We lived next door to Whoopi Goldberg, when she was a struggling single mother waitress, in about 1972.

tomps · 07/04/2003 20:24

I AM a famous people

janh · 07/04/2003 20:29

Didn't think Lembit Opik sounded like an Irish name (or is it O'Pik? )

Janeway · 07/04/2003 20:30

the wife of one of dp's colleagues did physio on Monica Lewinski (?sp)

helenmc · 07/04/2003 20:58

I was on university challenge - ok I was in the audience

Meanmum · 07/04/2003 21:09

I was shopping with Jamie Oliver this weekend. Well not with him just happened to be there at the same time.

The Lovely Jools and I exchanged pleasantries, or more like grimaces at how challenging children can be when faced with a market stall full of fruit and veg that can be picked up, thrown on the floor and then naturally trodden on.

Unfortunately it was mine that was out of control as hers was peacefully watching the world go by in her sling.

Meanmum · 07/04/2003 21:10

Oh yeah, once dated a carpenter who was working on a house that Mick Jagger went to have a look at buying. Don't think he did though.

EmmaTMG · 07/04/2003 21:21

tomps, if you really are, then who are you?

Or am I just being gullible?

forest · 07/04/2003 21:27

I used to be in a youth theatre that had Prince Edward and Annie Lennox as patrons. They had a big fancy ball and I had the pleasure of holding the door open for Prince Edward and he said something very innane to me! And Annie Lennox came over when I was on cloakroom duty and told me she was too cold to give me her coat. Oh what glamorous jobs I had that night whilst everyone was enjoying a fancy ball
I was in the same coffee shop as Paul Weller in Amsterdam and found it very hard not to go over and talk to him - had to remember he didn't know me!
Was also an extra in Fever Pitch and stood just behind Colin Firth.
I also know a lot of dodgy punk bands if that counts for anything!!!

breeze · 07/04/2003 21:33

When I was in WH Smiths and there was a book signing, my son for a year decided to pull off his sock and throw it I didn't realise until it was handed back to me by Alan Titchmarsh.

When I was very much younger I went to see a panto and got to go backstage and got to meet Ted Rogers, went a deep shade of red when he asked if I know who he was and me totally shaking replied "yes its red todgers".

I was kind o fhoping someone would just post "No, you're not" which is of course true. I did wonder though when there was a thread not long ago about celebrity mums, whether any were logging on to mumsnet for some down to earth advice ?! Hope so

Timasina · 08/04/2003 00:30

Blows her own trumpet!!!!
I opened the 'Today'(Radio 4)tenth birthday programme with my recorder playing 'Happy Birthday'....and was interviewed by Jack De Manio (anyone remember him?)in 1967! The reason being I was born at the same time as the programme first broadcast.
More recently I was interviewed on Channel Four for the series '....And Me!' Mine was Habitat and Me and I have the video to prove it!
I am beginning to think I may well be a frustrated actress or maybe just craving fame by default...HeHe!!!!!
I also met Oliver Reed (Who I had been secretly in love with since seeing him in Oliver when I was about 12) once in a pub in Surrey and he kissed my hand...Swooooon.....I have washed it since though. Never got over the fact that he didn't give me a real kiss......Boo Hoo
