Hello,

We’re pleased to announce a webchat with the leader of the Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn on Tuesday 30 May at midday.

Jeremy has been MP for Islington North since 1983, and has been Labour leader since 2015, having been re-elected when Owen Smith stood against him in 2016. Labour’s manifesto for the election on June 8 proposes ‘a Brexit deal that puts our economy and living standards first’, tax rises for the top 5% of earners, the renationalisation of the railways, free school meals for all primary pupils, the abolition of university tuition fees, and a £250 billion investment fund for infrastructure and the economy.

Please do join the chat on Tuesday at midday, or if you can’t make it, leave a question here in advance. Please do share the webchat on social - the more, the merrier!

As always, please remember our webchat guidelines - one question each, follow-ups if there’s time and please keep it civil .

(As we approach the General Election we will endeavour to offer you a balanced diet of webchats with politicians from different parties. More announcements coming soon.)

Thanks
MNHQ

Haidik, from what I gather you claim you don't like Corbyn, yet your posts here are very much helpful for him.

TheHoneyBadger · 30/05/2017 20:23

haidik you don't seem to be reading - just randomly ranting. plenty, even labour supporters, are against the free increased childcare and universal free meals.

plenty don't think children 'need' childcare from that age and that subsidising it by 16hrs for free is enough of a subsidy for those who who are using it due to necessity as working.

your assumption that everyone is on benefits and wants freebies is offensive and rather daft.

haidik · 30/05/2017 20:24

Charmageddon is he going to tax you or your partner?

Jellykat · 30/05/2017 20:24

Yep, thats right haidik because you are the only person here who knows about 'real life' < slowly claps >

haidik · 30/05/2017 20:25

The honey badger that what his manifesto is about give people everything what they want that's why they support him

haidik · 30/05/2017 20:28

Jellykat yes I do

TheHoneyBadger · 30/05/2017 20:28

haidik - back to the reading point though - not everyone on here is labour or voting for JC or agreeing with his manifesto. ergo saying, 'you ALL want free stuff' etc is bloody inaccurate aside from anything else.

Charmageddon · 30/05/2017 20:29

Charmageddon is he going to tax you or your partner?

Me.

I don't have a partner.

Why?

JanetBrown2015 · 30/05/2017 20:32

50% of people in the UK pay no tax and tend to be pretty happy that other people than them pay tax, not surprisingly!

Yes, Corbyn will make me pay an awful lot more tax. He might save me money on my sons' university fees although goodness knows how he's going to work it all out - apparently you will still pay in September but then get some kind of refund? May be it will be better just not to pay and hope the new rules come in before the debt collector arrives!

TheHoneyBadger · 30/05/2017 20:33

yes lots of countries do free meals etc. currently though our public services are falling apart, care for the elderly is appalling, our roads (certainly round this way) are falling apart, my council tax bill is eye watering on a tiny two bed flat, school's are failing left right and centre etc etc etc and that doesn't seem the time to say free cake for all .

oh and we'll find billions and billions to buy back all of the railways and x, y and z and we'll manage to tie up parliament with endless attempts to change laws and deal with the massive complexity of that whilst simultaneously trying to negotiate brexit terms. not to mention we'll need to get majority support in the houses for those law changes when we can't even get our party to support us.

it's the unfeasibility of it all that gets me and i do feel very cynical about this populist approach. i'm afraid to me i think it is that they really do not expect to win but must garner as many seats as possible so will promise anything to achieve that.

HappydaysArehere · 30/05/2017 20:34

What a waste of time. I won't be bothering anymore. He did a runner after selecting questions he felt able to answer. Probably thought we were an easy, feather brained lot!

FlouncingInTheRain · 30/05/2017 20:34

No tax? So no vat, capital gains, inheritance etc

VanillaSugar · 30/05/2017 20:36

Wtf? I thought you were joking flumpernickel......

Shock
QuiQuaiQuod · 30/05/2017 20:38

So. All you Jezfans out there. Still impressed by the man?

As always, hes quite happy to waste everyones time answering the biscuit question- and re my post above, I rest my case!

Doesn't answer the important ones as always.

and NEVER gives a straight answer.

still voting for him? Hmm

HQ why do you bother inviting these politicians on? its a bloody waste.

Jellykat · 30/05/2017 20:39

Yes flumpernickel almost as good as May discussing shoes eh?

VanillaSugar · 30/05/2017 20:41

They are all as bad as each other. This election is complete pants. So much underpants that even the aliens don't want them.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 30/05/2017 20:42

haidik

Moopointcows why the hell you think I should work for you to get everything for free???

What now?

Beachcomber · 30/05/2017 20:44

Puzzledandpissedoff, I read the link you posted upthread. What on earth do you think is damming about it?!

And why are you comparing mention of the state of Israel in an opinion peace by Corbyn that is specifically about the Israeli Palestinian conflict with nonmention of it in a Race and Faith manifesto that the Labour party is presenting to UK citizens of different ethnicities and faiths?!

You are coming across as someone who will only see bad in everything Corbyn does to the point where you disagree with him on the point that citizens on both sides of a conflict are equally deserving of having their human rights valued and protected. Bizarre.

BishopBrennansArse · 30/05/2017 20:44

Ignore Haidick it's been harrumphing around the board for weeks about being a hard working taxpayer paying for various posters.

🙄

Either a troll or a Tory/UKIP astroturfer. Constantly trying for bites.

Flumpernickel · 30/05/2017 20:47

Jelly, I think the whole campaign from each of them has been a farce. I dont give two shiny shits about shoes or jam... neither do the rest of the electorate. It's a joke, but I just cannot bring myself to vote for labour unicorn policies, so for me, it is now about selecting from the best of a bad bunch, and that will not be corbyn in my case.

JimmyGrimble · 30/05/2017 20:50

Very impressed and yes still voting for him.
He asked questions he was asked. That is hardly his fault.
He took time out from his election schedule to come onto Mumsnet. That he was unable to stay for a full hour was regrettable but again hardly his fault. He was on his way to a policy launch FFS.
TM has only once answered any questions from ordinary members of the public during this whole election process. She did so last night and it was an absolute fucking disaster. Repeated soundbites, waffling on, not answering a single question. She seemed to be just trying to bore us all into submission.
To be clear. I am voting for:
Investment into the NHS
Money for schools
Real BREXIT negotiations - you know - where we listen as well as demand and have a chance at reaching agreement
More police officers
A living wage
Policies to help the many people in this country who are completely on their arses
The Labour manifesto is costed. The Tory manifesto is not. We have just had vague threats that she is prepared to make 'tough choices'. Well we all know who will suffer as a result and it won't be the tories or their mates.

NettleTea · 30/05/2017 20:52

When is Teresa May coming in for a chat, pray tell??

TheHoneyBadger · 30/05/2017 20:54

i'd have been happier to see him say, for example, if elected we will enlist top economists etc to investigate the viability and costs of repurchasing the railways etc and to help us draw up a plan to do this. that would have been viable, given hope and promise but would mean taking the time and investigation required to check it out and develop plans that people could be voting on next election when we'd seen them manage other promises and the economy etc.

this, 'we'll do it' smacks of more ideological blind we'll do it my way even if it costs billions and isn't going to work - much like the bloody tories and their welfare reform.

no one appears responsible, balanced, committed to best practice and ensuring things can work and then presenting the facts as to how and letting people vote on it.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 30/05/2017 20:56

bishop

But i want someone to pay for me.

Why is haidik only paying for moo...its not fair!

TheHoneyBadger · 30/05/2017 20:57

hell imagine if they'd said we'll get it all worked out and a ten year plan drawn up showing profit/loss, improvements, benefits, time to break even etc etc, then published it and allowed a referendum on whether the nation should make the investment or not?

that would be wonderful to do politics like that.
