Hello,

We’re pleased to announce a webchat with the leader of the Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn on Tuesday 30 May at midday.

Jeremy has been MP for Islington North since 1983, and has been Labour leader since 2015, having been re-elected when Owen Smith stood against him in 2016. Labour’s manifesto for the election on June 8 proposes ‘a Brexit deal that puts our economy and living standards first’, tax rises for the top 5% of earners, the renationalisation of the railways, free school meals for all primary pupils, the abolition of university tuition fees, and a £250 billion investment fund for infrastructure and the economy.

Please do join the chat on Tuesday at midday, or if you can’t make it, leave a question here in advance. Please do share the webchat on social - the more, the merrier!

As always, please remember our webchat guidelines - one question each, follow-ups if there’s time and please keep it civil .

(As we approach the General Election we will endeavour to offer you a balanced diet of webchats with politicians from different parties. More announcements coming soon.)

Thanks
MNHQ

Does he think we are all little women thinking about biscuits, jam and staying at home with our kids

Certainly looks like it!

LadyGlitterSparklesSeriously · 30/05/2017 12:41

Looks as though the webchat started late. That's probably why.

OhGodWhatTheHellNow · 30/05/2017 12:42

Wow, I actually stopped what I was doing for that?

Perhaps Mumsnet HQ could have some sort of compositing for these webchats, so that the FAQs won't get ignored by a politico determined not to stray out of his comfort zone.

I should have stuck with the bloody hoovering.

Bluntness100 · 30/05/2017 12:42

In fairness, he wouldn't have wasted time talking about biscuits if people hadn't wasted space asking about them. Or Irn-Bru ffs. What was that about

What because he didn't have hundreds of others of serious questions to pick from? He chose to tell a bunch of premoniantly females about biscuits, sugar, jam making and kids?

FannyWisdom · 30/05/2017 12:42

s won't happen, but I would love if someoneinyour office read this and then answered all the questions that have been asked, so everyone has a chance to hear their answer....

Even Dianne Abbot? Grin

Did HQ get giddy and break out the gin early?
Who scared him off?

Jellykat · 30/05/2017 12:42

20 mins is more then May is giving us folks!!

Want2bSupermum · 30/05/2017 12:42

Thank you for answering my question. I'm happy your thoughts align with mine but I just don't see how we are going to be able to afford it all with early years paid at a rate below the proposed minimum wage.

I would like Sure Start centers put back in place but also I'd like some proper support for SEN in the early years like we have here in America. I'd move home in a heartbeat. Instead I can't get planning in place to build an ASD friendly home for my son and the LEA has said he has to fail in a mainstream school before they can allocate resources to him. He has an IEP here and formal medical diagnosis along with a medical file that goes on 7 USB sticks (quite a lot if you consider he is 4!).

We all want better services available to all and I'm very thankful the Labour Party are speaking and standing up for the vast majority of people.

MummyTheGregor · 30/05/2017 12:43

omg he's gone already??? 😱

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 30/05/2017 12:43

Looks as though the webchat started late. That's probably why.

Because he was 'running late!'

Charmageddon · 30/05/2017 12:43

Over 400 posts, there would never be enough time to answer most people but I do think an hour would have been more appropriate MN.

He knew he was coming in - he had access to many, many questions leading up to today & yet he chose not to bother.

What a joke.

Bluntness100 · 30/05/2017 12:43

Supermum he's gone.

Crabcanon · 30/05/2017 12:43

What a morning. No figures to hand for funding proposed 30 hours free childcare for all and now answering a few very soft questions from mainly die hard Labour supporters and then off for a train. He may be proud to lead his party but imo he's not doing a good job at it.

I am just looking at reasons to vote for Labour, because I would really love to, but I'm sorry, each time I hope to feel more confident about a Labour government, I'm left disappointed and angry.

Want2bSupermum · 30/05/2017 12:44

Actually it would be great if JC could have an assistant answer all the questions. MNHQ, would be great if that could be coordinated. Would really put Labour ahead of TM and their question dodging.

Two4One2017 · 30/05/2017 12:44

MrsLupo he chose to answer fluffy questions and avoid anything remotely tricky - like how he's going to fill the costings hole the IFS identified and the uplifting of benefits which was not in the manifesto and which Barry Gardiner has just been backtracking on.... this was all a waste of time. Both his and ours.

Valentine2 · 30/05/2017 12:44

Is there a chance of getting May here Mumsnet? Grin

Apart from the short time, I think this went very well. At least some very predictable, very regular anti-Corbynites came to do their trolling. Grin

Bluntness100 · 30/05/2017 12:45

Would really put Labour ahead of TM and their question dodging

I think you've just witnessed question dodging in the extreme....

Apairofsparklingeyes · 30/05/2017 12:45

Mr Corbyn, if by any chance you are still reading this web chat, please listen to what most Jewish voters are telling you and actually deal with the antisemitism in the party.

clairethewitch70 · 30/05/2017 12:46

He ate all the biscuits at MN hq then left.

What the

Would he turn up late to Brexit negotiations then leave early?

My tiny bit of respect for him as gone. He did not answer any serious questions. We Mums are obviously not intelligent enough to be given serious answers, just fluffy stuff. Can we really trust him?

PlymouthMaid1 · 30/05/2017 12:46

What an unsurprising waste of time that was. He can't give a yes or No answer or answer anything tricky.

LadyGlitterSparklesSeriously · 30/05/2017 12:47
Hmm
areeba · 30/05/2017 12:48

Dear Horsemadmom,

As a Muslim Labour Party member, I am genuinely sorry that some members have in the past said anti-Semitic things.

As a Labout and Corbyn supporter, I do believe that what Corbyn ever wanted was ways to achieve peace, and his favourite way has been through talks. Unfortunately, it hasn't worked and him admitting that would mean he would be crucified in the media. Therefore I believe he would renounce the terrorists and not accept them to be friends but a backtracking statement in the media could cost the Labour Party a lot. I hope that my message can show that the party is not anti Semitic. I have campaigned myself (I'm in Hendon) for having a Jewish community representative stand as our MP candidate and we finally have one! I couldn't be prouder of Mike Katz.

Let's make the election about forging understanding between our communities.

xx

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/05/2017 12:48

Why am I not surprised

Perhaps because you come across as an utter realist, Piglet? Smile

I imagine JC's well aware of MN's left wing demographic - and certainly the countless fawning posts earlier would have reminded him - so maybe he felt there was little point in spending a lot of time "preaching to the converted", so to speak?

TheFairyCaravan · 30/05/2017 12:48

n fairness, he wouldn't have wasted time talking about biscuits if people hadn't wasted space asking about them. Or Irn-Bru ffs. What was that about.

Of course! Because there was absolutely nothing else out of the 400 other posts to answer, was there? 🤔

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 30/05/2017 12:48

Would really put Labour ahead of TM and their question dodging

I think he has just shown that he is uping the stakes with question dodging.

Carcrash with figures on radio this morning now this.

Want2bSupermum · 30/05/2017 12:48

blunt I am hoping an assistant comes back to at least read the comments. I'm a traditional Tory supporter who doesn't like anyone in front line politics right now. My #1 is actually Frank Field. He has been a fabulous MP for Birkenhead.

JC has shown he is willing to listen. It's an important characteristic and something I would love for his leadership to demonstrate here. As the wife of a business owner and a female who has carved a career out for myself, I am fine with an assistant answering the questions on his behalf. I just think this is an excellent medium for them to utilize to get their message across.

If the Tories do win JC will have done a great job of dragging the Tories into the center ground. TM underestimated Labour to her peril.
