Hello,

We’re pleased to announce a webchat with the leader of the Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn on Tuesday 30 May at midday.

Jeremy has been MP for Islington North since 1983, and has been Labour leader since 2015, having been re-elected when Owen Smith stood against him in 2016. Labour’s manifesto for the election on June 8 proposes ‘a Brexit deal that puts our economy and living standards first’, tax rises for the top 5% of earners, the renationalisation of the railways, free school meals for all primary pupils, the abolition of university tuition fees, and a £250 billion investment fund for infrastructure and the economy.

Please do join the chat on Tuesday at midday, or if you can’t make it, leave a question here in advance. Please do share the webchat on social - the more, the merrier!

As always, please remember our webchat guidelines - one question each, follow-ups if there’s time and please keep it civil .

(As we approach the General Election we will endeavour to offer you a balanced diet of webchats with politicians from different parties. More announcements coming soon.)

Thanks
MNHQ

Have you read all the questions? The first did mention biscuits... but I'm pretty sure he talked about freedom of movement, our relationship with the US, childcare (which shock as a mother I am interested in...), poverty, living wage, voting age, transport, cost of living, tax, the B word, and the Labour manifesto...

RTKangaMummy · 30/05/2017 12:48

MN HQ is there a reason why Jeremy had to go to the MN HQ rather than one of the MN HQ staff read him the questions over the phone or he reads them online and he replies and they type the answers as he speaks

That way he would have had more time to answer from his office rather than wasting time travelling to your office

I love the way the quotes look btw but if you had typed the answers you could still have done them for him

SunEgg · 30/05/2017 12:49

The questions he answered, he answered very well, so well done to him.

He obviously didn't have time to answer most of the questions, but then neither do other guests that come on to this live chat.

Istoletherainbow · 30/05/2017 12:49

Very disappointed. Not really anything else to say.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 30/05/2017 12:50

The questions he answered, he answered very well, so well done to him.

Yes we have paragraphs on his biscuit 9choices Hmm

SunEgg · 30/05/2017 12:50

@Want2besupermum

"JC has shown he is willing to listen. It's an important characteristic and something I would love for his leadership to demonstrate here."

I couldn't agree more. TM comes across like she really doesn't care what the general public think.

dad4ever789 · 30/05/2017 12:50

Hi Jeremy Like many of her classmates, my daughter will only eat animals that have been raised humanely . Yet I find it very confusing with all the supermarket labelling such as ‘ethical meat’ with no description. Can you pass laws for clear labelling so I can buy her meat that clearly states how the animal lived and was killed

ImagineBeingThatPassionate · 30/05/2017 12:51

*Is there a chance of getting May here Mumsnet? grin
*

Will TM have figures in her head then talk about shoes and bins?

SunEgg · 30/05/2017 12:51

@PigletWasPoohsFriend

You are being unfair. That was one question, and the question was asked!

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 30/05/2017 12:51

@dad4ever789 He left early about 10 minutes ago.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 30/05/2017 12:53

@SunEgg No I'm really not as you can see by mostly people's responses.

Want2bSupermum · 30/05/2017 12:53

I don't think he answered my question well actually. Does Labour plan to bring back sure start centers or not? How about breakfast club and aftercare for primary kids?

Minimum wage of £10 an hour doesn't address how Labour will support families. The higher wage is just inflationary.

Bluntness100 · 30/05/2017 12:54

I didn't see anything on here showing he was willing to listen. It was a half arsed attempt at it,

My daughter is a Labour Party member and she thinks he's not letting anyone help him and that's why he's in this mess. It's just all too much for one person. He should have had an advisor pick the questions, draft the responses and then he could approve and post. This really wasn't advisable.

And if he's not letting people help him, how does it bode for being in power? Not well. It gives substance to the rumours he's extremely dogmatic.

theothersideoftheworld · 30/05/2017 12:54

I can only see 9 questions answered. Is that it or am I doing something wrong?

Chaotica · 30/05/2017 12:55

To be fair, former candidates have been slaughtered in the press for not answering about biscuit choices. Anyone in JC's position would have been warned not to answer them at their peril. That is the media's fault.

There were some serious answers, but we could do with some more of them. Could Labour please get someone on the case to answer some more questions and show you're serious. We are.

(Thanks for actually turning up at all though unlike others... )

TwoLeftSocks · 30/05/2017 12:55

Ffs. Patronising token effort.

Lots of good questions from everyone, which has given me more to think about than he has.

caffeineanddryshampoo · 30/05/2017 12:55

Don't be ridiculous, MN always ask the biscuit question.

Chaotica · 30/05/2017 12:58

Basic economics: higher wages are not inflationary if they increase the amount of money spent and so the amount of a product being bought. And, in a lower income family, extra money is more likely to be spent than saved.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 30/05/2017 13:01

@theothersideoftheworld No that's it. He arrived late and left early.

caffeineanddryshampoo · 30/05/2017 13:02

He has a very busy schedule, travelling up and down the country giving rallies and interviews across all media. There were pages and pages of questions, it would have taken him hours to answer all those. We don't know how the questions were picked, for all I know MN give him a few.
At least Jezza is prepared to talk and debate unlike some.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/05/2017 13:02

I do believe that what Corbyn ever wanted was ways to achieve peace, and his favourite way has been through talks. Unfortunately, it hasn't worked and him admitting that would mean he would be crucified in the media

I'm really not certain about this ... surely the obvious thing to do would be to say "I gave it my very best shot, but now that approach has failed and it's time to look at a different one for the future"?

Although I don't believe that he was really only consorting with terrorists to build peace, I'd very much respect that - and at least he could then lay some sort of claim to being the "principled" man we're often told he is, instead of just casting round for the next extremist to support

Ldaniel · 30/05/2017 13:03

Hi Jeremy,

As a parent and teacher I want to know what you will be doing to address the issues of school policy making, I want teachers, parents and education professionals to be more involved in making decisions based on fact and not guess work. For example the current trend to push formal learning on to younger and younger children when research and common sense teaches that it does not improve academic ability and does more harm than good. Will you be doing anything to improve this?

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 30/05/2017 13:04

@Ldaniel He has gone....

Oogle · 30/05/2017 13:04

SO pleased he answered my question about how he thinks the corporation tax rise and £10 NMW will effect small businesses Hmm

But anyway, forget the economy, peoples livelihoods, etc...we now know he loves a shortbread biscuit and makes jam.

SarahBoddy2017 · 30/05/2017 13:04

What is going to be done about the disgusting two child cap and rape clause and the cuts to PIP and ATOS and CAPITA who are treating people like animals! I suffer with severe anxiety, agrophobia and other mental health issues which have caused my life to be completely debilitated yet the wait for me to get help is 6m+ to see a counsellor or psychiatrist who is "qualified enough" to see me. Doctors don't have the funding or places to send anyone for help so you get fobbed off, leaving people who took a huge step to ask for help feeling they can't go anywhere for help. People with mental health are being killed off by the conservatives. Pip needs to be sorted for mental health and so does the care. Jeremy, I have already sent back my postal vote and voted for you, please do something to help me.
