Hello,

We’re pleased to announce a webchat with the leader of the Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn on Tuesday 30 May at midday.

Jeremy has been MP for Islington North since 1983, and has been Labour leader since 2015, having been re-elected when Owen Smith stood against him in 2016. Labour’s manifesto for the election on June 8 proposes ‘a Brexit deal that puts our economy and living standards first’, tax rises for the top 5% of earners, the renationalisation of the railways, free school meals for all primary pupils, the abolition of university tuition fees, and a £250 billion investment fund for infrastructure and the economy.

Please do join the chat on Tuesday at midday, or if you can’t make it, leave a question here in advance. Please do share the webchat on social - the more, the merrier!

As always, please remember our webchat guidelines - one question each, follow-ups if there’s time and please keep it civil .

(As we approach the General Election we will endeavour to offer you a balanced diet of webchats with politicians from different parties. More announcements coming soon.)

Thanks
MNHQ

Agree with you Bubbley

WilfSell · 30/05/2017 12:36

Why aren't the Labour Party doing more to discuss economics? I am utterly sick of hearing about throwing money away and magic money trees from the right. The national economy is not the same as a household budget and the public are not too stupid to understand decision making is about ideology and politics not some 'neo liberal' status quo. Unless you brave up and tell it like it is, the politics of hope will not succeed.

I think you're doing very well, by the way. Like others I voted for you as LP leader but felt utterly let down by your stance on the Referendum. I live in a high Brexit-voting poor mostly white area of the UK and I couldn't help but think the lukewarm stance had let down the poorest where I live. However, in the last few weeks, I've come to admire your quiet steadfast defence of principle in the face of utter hysterics from the right wing media. Whatever the outcome, I genuinely hope the main legacy will be people seeing through the grip that the establishment have on the 'message', so that we can begin to discuss principles without ridicule. And I'm also hopeful that enough people will come out to vote against austerity so that we can at least have a reduced majority for the Tories or a hung parliament.

TheFairyCaravan · 30/05/2017 12:37

That was a huge disappointment

Jellykat · 30/05/2017 12:37

FGS Chestnuts If you're basing who you vote for, and therefore you and your childrens future on a MN webchat, shame on you!! Hmm

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 30/05/2017 12:37

What an absolute waste of time!

YouWhatMate · 30/05/2017 12:37

"If Labour lose seats in the election (and end up with fewer seats) will you step down straight away. Yes or no answer please not babble about the party membership "

"Proud to lead our party."

Not troll-hunting here, but come on MNHQ, this is defo a wind-up. PBP?

GoldfishHaveNoMemory · 30/05/2017 12:38

This won't happen, but I would love if someoneinyour office read this and then answered all the questions that have been asked, so everyone has a chance to hear their answer. I feel this would go a long way to support you.

For me, disability cuts and autism assessments are key. I repeat the above questions on how you can stop the cuts to autism diagnoses based on cost grounds, surely that is just heading for a worse quality of life for those affected.

mummysmellsofsick · 30/05/2017 12:38

Hi Jeremy,

I'm a former Green Party supporter who is now a Labour Party member because I support your leadership, your principles, and admire the way you've handled every that's been thrown at you since the first of your leadership elections.

My question is: will labour commit to putting environmental concerns at the heart of their policies if they are elected? Much as I admire your socialism I fear there is no social justice for future generations if we destroy the planet they are meant to live on. This should be our first priority.

mousetale · 30/05/2017 12:38

Pahahaha 😆
Really no point in doing this...

Bluntness100 · 30/05/2017 12:38

if you knew he couldn't stay long, you shouldn't have had him in, you must have known folk would be pissed off if he didn't answer much

Shouldn't he have known that? Why are you blaming mumsnet?

Is corbyn mysognistic? Does he think we are all little women thinking about biscuits, jam and staying at home with our kids?

I'm quite surprised at that.

Flipsticks · 30/05/2017 12:38

Agreed with all of you that are saying that was a disappointment. There were a lot of questions here that I would have liked him to touch on.
Feels like a bit of a piss-take to be honest!

TheHoneyBadger · 30/05/2017 12:38

so he arrived late and left early? what did he spare - less than 20mins it appears

Charmageddon · 30/05/2017 12:39

This won't happen, but I would love if someoneinyour office read this and then answered all the questions that have been asked, so everyone has a chance to hear their answer.

This.

Every Single Question.

Shouldn't be too arduous, surely?

MummyTheGregor · 30/05/2017 12:39

Do you think really think its possible for Labour to thwart the Tories this time? The polls sadly suggest a loosing battle.

BorisTrumpsHair · 30/05/2017 12:39

wow that was quick!
Still, JC is pretty busy ATM.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 30/05/2017 12:39

Looks like the antisemitism question goes unanswered again.

Or, maybe, it was answered.

Yep. Arrive late, leave early. Answer fluffy questions including two paragraphs about biscuits then go.

Why am I not suprised.

MrsLupo · 30/05/2017 12:40

In fairness, he wouldn't have wasted time talking about biscuits if people hadn't wasted space asking about them. Or Irn-Bru ffs. What was that about.

AuntiePushpa · 30/05/2017 12:40

Longterm mumnsnetter, much more recent Labour Party member.

I joined up inspired by Jeremy Corbyn that parliamentary politics can make a difference.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/05/2017 12:40

Well I didn't get my question on the BT answered so I take it you're not going to reverse it.
I'm toying now that. Its probably better the devil the poor know.

Charmageddon · 30/05/2017 12:40

Mummies shouldn't worry their pretty heads about politics Obvs.

Just jam & biscuits.

Giddyaunt18 · 30/05/2017 12:41

Over 400 posts, there would never be enough time to answer most people but I do think an hour would have been more appropriate MN.

Lemonjellymoonstar · 30/05/2017 12:41

Mumsnet why the bloody hell did you do this whole thing for a few short minutes ?! The fuck?!

Giddyaunt18 · 30/05/2017 12:41

Mummies shouldn't worry their pretty heads about politics Obvs.
Oh please!!
