Hello,

We’re pleased to announce a webchat with the leader of the Labour Party (and candidate in the current leadership election) Jeremy Corbyn MP on Monday 19 September at 2pm.

Jeremy has been MP for Islington North since 1983, and before 2015 was best known as a rebellious backbencher and chair of the Stop the War coalition. His leadership of Labour over the past year has inspired enthusiastic support as well as attracting sustained criticism. Among other things, he’s taken a new crowd-sourced approach to Prime Minister’s Questions, opposed military intervention in Syria and proposed the renationalisation of the railways.

His last webchat on Mumsnet (alongside fellow leadership candidate in 2015, Liz Kendall) featured lively discussions about socialism, electability and the provenance of Jeremy’s vests (Holloway Road market, since you ask).

Please do join the chat on Monday at 2, or if you can’t make it, leave a question here in advance. If you know people who you think would like to ask Jeremy a question, do please share the link around on social media too.

(If you’re interested in our webchat with the other Labour leadership candidate Owen Smith, take a look here .)

As always, please do keep in mind our webchat guidelines - one question each, follow-ups if there’s time and above all, keep it civil [taps nose like that geezer Shaw Taylor in Police 5] (Horribly showing my age there).

Heads up - webchat with Jeremy Corbyn Monday 19th Sept @ 2pm.

How will Mr Corbyn reunite the Labour Party once he has been reelected as leader, given all the dissent among the MPs?

P.S. My mum is totally in love with you!

Whohasnickedmyvodka · 15/09/2016 16:09

Ummmmm it's the 20th September on Tuesday not Monday mnhq

YouAreMyRain · 15/09/2016 16:14

Why do you support decriminalising prostitution instead of the Nordic model? Where full decriminalisation has happened, there has been an increase in demand, an increase in trafficking and an increase in violence.

I have always been left wing and I have been on rallies to support you but I cannot support your stance on prostitution.

Why is the left only fully in favour of the free market when it's women's bodies that are being commercially bought and sold?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/09/2016 16:16

I think a political party sticking to its principles is more important than being in power. DP disagrees and things a party should ditch its principles to gain power.

What do you think?

Oops - thank you Whohas - we've fixed the title now Blush

Monday 19 September at 2pm is the correct date and time.

I would like to know what your opinion is on the idea of self declaration of gender that Maria Miller supports.
In my opinion 'Gender identity' is a regressive notion that is harmful and has no scientific evidence to back it up.
I am concerned that any man could self identify as a woman and then access spaces that should be segregated by sex, not gender. I have a young daughter, I don't want her to encounter grown men in changing rooms for example.

MypocketsarelikeNarnia · 15/09/2016 16:49

I'd like you to answer Youaremyrain ' s question about the Nordic model of prostitution.

SpookyRachel · 15/09/2016 16:54

[rubs hands]

Sporadicus · 15/09/2016 17:02

I'd echo slamdunk's question re gender identity laws. Will you commit to keeping women as a biological sex class, as currently recognised by the Equality Act 2010?

Maria Miller's proposals would be a disaster for women and girls, removing our rights to sex-segregated spaces such as domestic violence shelters, prisons, changing rooms and sport teams.

MeMyself1 · 15/09/2016 17:15

Will you meet with 'radical feminists' to let us provide you with our evidence, theories and arguments?
I am a staunch supporter of yours and remember first meeting you at the vigil outside South Africa House in the '80s. However, as a Trade Unionist, I cannot agree with your stance on prostitution or 'gender identity' and hope that you will at least listen to the views of those of us who are not funded by George Soros and pharmaceutical companies trying to flog their 'hormone supplement treatments'!

ShowOfHands · 15/09/2016 17:17

Hello Jeremy. I've been a Labour party member since turning 18 and was delighted by your election to the position of leader. You have my support for re-election too.

Can I ask if there's any other job you would like to have done outside of the political sphere?

VanillaSugarandChristmasSpice · 15/09/2016 17:24

What's your favourite biscuit?

MostlyHet · 15/09/2016 17:41

I have an excellent Labour MP whom I voted for in the last election. He has considerable experience, has always been very helpful in answering correspondence and is utterly committed to his constituents. He appears on your campaign office's list of Labour MPs allegedly guilty of abusing you and your supporters. Guardian article here. Do you intend to interfere at constituency level to get these MPs deselected, or will you allow individual constituency Labour parties to make their own decisions?

(NB, think carefully about this one - I am actually prepared to vote Tory over this issue if my excellent MP is deselected over this - after all, a Lib Dem vote is effectively a Tory vote, and the Greens apparently consider me a mere "non-man". You seem to me to prefer ideological purity to democracy, which I see as a very dangerous attitude to embrace).

Cherryskypie · 15/09/2016 17:54

What are your plans for Labour's next 5 years of opposition? And the 5 after that?

Sandsnake · 15/09/2016 17:55

Yes, Het.

missmodular2 · 15/09/2016 18:15

On a scale of 1 to 10, how important is it to you that Labour win the next election?

MypocketsarelikeNarnia · 15/09/2016 18:39

Yes I'd echo slam dunk's question on gender/sex identity too. It would be nice if the labour party could acknowledge the existence of women given that the Greens have just abolished us...

Evie80 · 15/09/2016 19:03

Housing is a big issue especially here in the South West where wages are low and house prices high. Will the Labour Party look at regulating private rentals, to give more security to tenants and reduce the amount paid to landlords via Housing Benefit?

Sewblunt · 15/09/2016 19:09

Good question MostlyHet

AllThePrettySeahorses · 15/09/2016 20:25

Will you guarantee that there will be no deselections of MPs? As in, will you tell the CLPs not to do this and implement penalties if they do deselect, rather than just pay lip service to not supporting it? A deselected MP is still an MP and to do this would irreparably damage Labour - if all 172 MPs who voted no confidence are deselected, Labour will no longer be the opposition and will likely never recover.

BIWI · 15/09/2016 20:32

Oh bollocks. I'm at work. Why do you always hold these things during the day, MNHQ? Don't you think it rather promulgates the view that we're all just little women with nothing better to do than the housework?

BIWI · 15/09/2016 21:52

And by holding it at 2pm, you're not even making it easy for those of us who are at work to join in at lunchtime - seeing as most people have their lunch between 12.30/1.00 and 2.00pm!

Kropotkinator · 15/09/2016 21:52

Do they take in to consideration questions put here? Or do they have to be put in the Web chat as and when it happens. I think the prostitution and gender questions are very good and would really like them answered.

Mycatsabastard · 15/09/2016 22:30

If you can't be here you can post your questions now and then come back to check later.

Jeremy I completely support you and hope you remain as Leader of the Opposition.

My question: Why do you think the press are so hellbent on slurring you all the time? I have never seen a Leader of a party attacked so continuously. Do you think that they genuinely think you are a threat to the Tory party? (oh God I do bloody hope so!)

LineyReborn · 15/09/2016 23:02

Do you think a penis can be female?
