Hello,

We’re pleased to announce a webchat with the leader of the Labour Party (and candidate in the current leadership election) Jeremy Corbyn MP on Monday 19 September at 2pm.

Jeremy has been MP for Islington North since 1983, and before 2015 was best known as a rebellious backbencher and chair of the Stop the War coalition. His leadership of Labour over the past year has inspired enthusiastic support as well as attracting sustained criticism. Among other things, he’s taken a new crowd-sourced approach to Prime Minister’s Questions, opposed military intervention in Syria and proposed the renationalisation of the railways.

His last webchat on Mumsnet (alongside fellow leadership candidate in 2015, Liz Kendall) featured lively discussions about socialism, electability and the provenance of Jeremy’s vests (Holloway Road market, since you ask).

Please do join the chat on Monday at 2, or if you can’t make it, leave a question here in advance. If you know people who you think would like to ask Jeremy a question, do please share the link around on social media too.

(If you’re interested in our webchat with the other Labour leadership candidate Owen Smith, take a look here .)

As always, please do keep in mind our webchat guidelines - one question each, follow-ups if there’s time and above all, keep it civil [taps nose like that geezer Shaw Taylor in Police 5] (Horribly showing my age there).

Heads up - webchat with Jeremy Corbyn Monday 19th Sept @ 2pm.

We are taking it seriously Xmas

He is not just an MP he is leader of the opposition and questions have been raised about his leadership and where he is taking the party

As right now most of us know it is certainly not to a win in 2020

I too wish he would resign

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 16/09/2016 22:06

I wish people would take this seriously and not just use this thread as a way to tell Corbyn they hate him.

I think you'll find everyone on here is taking it seriously.

I really want a MP to take on the issues single parents face and hoping he can answer genuine questions and not waste time explaining why he won't resign ( he has answered this many times) and answer people's genuine issues

So questions are only 'genuine' if you agree with you.

He isn't just an MP he is leader of the opposition and supposedly PM in waiting whose popularity rating amongst voters is plummeting as is the party.

missyB1 · 16/09/2016 22:14

What will Labour do to fix the damage done to our NHS by this Government? As the wife of a Doctor (and as a former nurse myself), can I say we are relying on you winning the next general election.

hoddtastic · 16/09/2016 22:18

I am a member who has been denied a vote- I had no plan to vote for you (I didn't last time) but am a long time member and a long time activist.

I want to know what it is that is keeping you going? You are about to consign people who need a Labour Government to another 20years of Tories, if we get back in then there will be nothing left to save. You are an intelligent man, you've been in and around politics, you aren't a vain man- you aren't a silly man- Why are you doing this? What motivates you to continue when I believe you know that you wont win an election, and that we need to be electable, else we are no more than a protest group.

Tell Seumas and John you're done with it. For all of our sakes.

The OU was created to encourage social mobility, educate ordinary people and allow life long learning. It is a fantastic resource, but these days well out of the reach of many since they had to increase their fees to achieve parity with b&m universities.

If you were to remain leader of your party, and later PM, would you consider reducing OU fees so that the courses are again within the reach of ordinary people on nmw, zero hours contracts, on the dole or simply low paid?

My personal view is that no UK citizen should have to pay for tertiary education, but that the OU should be made to charge such high fees is almost criminal and I am utterly disgusted that they have to. I remember when it started! It made me think that this is a country which really values its populace and I felt proud. Now, life long learning barely exists; gone are the days when my mum, in her 80s, went on geology field trips, studied cosmology and did art classes. As things are now I expect my old age to be spent veged out in front of the communal telly smelling of wee Wink

FATEdestiny · 16/09/2016 22:31

If you win, how do you plan to unify the Labour Party?

BishopBrennansArse · 16/09/2016 22:35

Are you aware of a large number of members who have had their right to vote removed, or actual votes disallowed for reasons such as liking the Foo Fighters amongst other things?

LongHardStare · 16/09/2016 22:56

I second LotisBlue's question:

Given the evidence of media bias against you, what do you think can be done to combat the power of the media (specifically, the right wing tabloid press)?

I think it would have been naive to expect anything less than the media campaign raged against you in the last year given the genuinely socialist project you hope to implement. But the media, corporate interests, the wider political class, other states even, are only going to escalate the pressure after you win this leadership election: do you think you and your supporters are stepping up to the level of challenge that this will be?

I joined the Labour Party to support you and will do all I can to keep the breath of hope you are offering this country alive, especially in the depressing aftermath of the Brexit referendum. But I do think the lack of a collective response to the purge of Labour voters, the ban on meetings, etc. has shown a real weakness that has to be tackled. Give your supporters a chance to do more than just join a phonebank and ask people to vote!

Rainbunny · 16/09/2016 23:05

I'd like to ask why exactly you favour a "Norwegian Model" relationship with the EU post Brexit? What exactly is attractive about this to you? I admit all I can see is us paying into the EU nearly the same amount that we currently do whilst continuing to accept unlimited free movement and having zero influence in EU policies or law.

Yarboosucks · 17/09/2016 00:07

Are you leading a political party or a cult of personality?

hoddtastic · 17/09/2016 00:42

Yarboo,I can answer that for ya chick!

Yarboosucks · 17/09/2016 00:45

Hoddtastic - I would be interested in your answer / opinion!

But this is a genuine question and I would love to know who Jezza would answer it!

hoddtastic · 17/09/2016 00:49

it's a fan club/protest group- who knew there were so many SW labour members who were just waiting for a messiah eh?

Having seen the 'make jam for Jeremy' and the 'write a poem' for him i am contemplating weaving him a beret out of my body hair #notacult

custardismyhamster · 17/09/2016 01:12

Hi Jeremy,

Not a question, but just wanted to say you had my vote last time, you have my vote this time and you've made me be proud of my party again (ashamed of everyone else, granted, but proud of our ELECTED LEADER)

collieflourplease · 17/09/2016 07:46

Hi Jeremy

Sadly I won't be able to vote for you as I had my membership revoked in the latest purge.

This was for sending an "inappropriate" tweet on a date when I was not even in the UK (or with access to the internet). No evidence has been provided. I have appealed but won't get a vote in the Leadership contest. I have been a member of the LP for a number of years.

I do hope you win and stand behind you 100%. I know you cannot comment on what is currently taking place with the NEC and PLP - so I'll ask a different question!

Do you have a favourite book that you never tire of re-reading?

Secretmetalfan · 17/09/2016 07:53

if you ever got in power how would you help the very squeezed middle? People with household income of £60k to £100k who struggle with high childcare fees, proprtionately high taxation, low returns on savings yet high credit charges. Would you for instance consider tax relief for private medical insurance to alleviate the strain on the nhs and fully funded childcare for anyone where both parents work at least 28 hours a week?

SoftFluffyTowel · 17/09/2016 08:13

Hi Jeremy, would you consider putting in place a plan to resign early 2019 to allow another leader to take over (with your full endorsement) ahead of the general election? This seems to be the plan that will give Labour best chance of winning in 2020. Hopefully by then you can find a decent alternative leader.

bonnie1981 · 17/09/2016 08:22

The labour party needs a leader that has the support of BOTH members and MPs to be electable.

Mr Corbyn why won't you just leave? Why are you being so stubborn? What will you do, if re-elected, to unite the whole party and win government?

Tarrarra · 17/09/2016 09:25

Why should we believe you can unite the labour party? My elected MP holds a safe Labour seat yet risks being deselected. I get the impression you're not willing to work with people who don't fully agree with you, which in politics is a dangerous thing. Can you persuade me otherwise Jeremy?

Vegangelist · 17/09/2016 09:27

Hello, JC.
Are you vegan yet? If not, why not?
Feel free to PM me if you want some help with it! Grin

Whenwillitrain · 17/09/2016 09:33

Jeremy, if you remain leader of the party, and subsequently lose a general election substantially, will you stand down?

albertcampionscat · 17/09/2016 10:09

Good question whenwilltrain.

deninbtn · 17/09/2016 10:51

Hello Jeremy

I went to the fund raiser in Brighton a few nights ago and loved what you had to say about creating a fair and just society.

I share your vision

TheQuestingVole · 17/09/2016 11:12

Anna Soubry MP stated on Question Time this week that a female Jewish Labour MP has had to live in a safe house because of harassment and intimidation from activists who support you. Is this true and if so what concrete, practical steps have you taken to put an end to this kind of bullying of your Jewish MPs?
