Hot on the heels of yesterday's webchat with Jillian Michaels, we're inviting you to drop by for a chat with Davina on Monday (19 January) from 12.30-1.30pm. During the hour you'll be able to quiz her on health and fitness issues and she'll be telling us about her brand new fitness DVD, 7 Minute Fit and her latest book Five Weeks to Sugar-Free.

Davina says: "I'm beyond excited about my new book Five Weeks to Sugar-Free! I want to show you how to give up sugar for keeps and help you along the way with simple, yummy recipes and tons of tips. I've also heard from so many of you who found last year's short 15-Minute Fit exercises really worked for you, so this year we have a brand new concept just for you with workouts to help you to tone up, get fit and burn fat (we love a bit of fat burning!) and the most amazing thing... They're only seven minutes long!

"Now, I know what you're thinking - seven minutes?! What can you do in seven minutes? The answer is a lot. We've been doing these workouts for the last few months and you just can't believe the difference you can make in seven minutes.

I can't wait to answer your questions!

Davina xx"

Come and chat to Davina on Monday 19 January at 12.30 or post a question in advance on this thread.

Oh how brilliant. I love Davina's DVDs. I have all of them, including the new 7 minute one. I do like it and have been known to do all 10 back to back in one session (ouch). I miss Jackie and Mark though (is Jackie okay, I do hope so?). It must be ten times stranger for Davina after a decade. Love Ed though. His exaggerated thrusting cheers me up no end. Grin

I have about 8 billion questions I'd like to ask her, ranging from how is her hair so swishy and lovely, through technical questions about Ed's method for abs and all the way up to where she gets her brilliant workout gear from. I particularly want the yellow get up from Cardio 15!

Anyway, abs. I just cannot believe that Ed's pelvic tilt/squeeze stuff is enough if you see what I mean. It is definitely shredding my lower abdominals but I find myself doing loads of extra obliques/plank/core stuff on top of it, whilst trying to maintain his postural suggestions. Has it really made that much of a difference? Am I right to add in so much more on top of it?

Can I also just take the opportunity to say a massive thank you to Davina? I even thought about finding a way to write to her once. I only seriously started to work out after losing my way after having my first child. I was in the grips of postnatal depression, post-surgery, felt alienated from my own body and despaired of ever feeling proud of the way I look and what my body could do. Seven years and another baby later, I am fitter, stronger and healthier than ever. I lift heavy weights, I do serious plyometrics, HIIT and running. I have definition and strength and real pride in my own ability. Had I not bought Power of 3, I wouldn't have started down this road.

I've signed up to your website using my code by the way and my next challenge is going sugar free. Which is tough. I love a gingerbread man. Sad

Showy · 16/01/2015 17:41

Oh and ask her if she's got any skipping stories...

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 16/01/2015 19:14

Tell her her hair is gorgeous and she really suits it long. Who is her hairdresser!

Howaboutthisone · 16/01/2015 19:26

I love Davina! The DVDs are brilliant and she just comes across as such a lovely and inspirational person. That comic relief challenge was outstanding!

whatwoulddexterdo · 16/01/2015 19:51

I love Davina and have all of her dvds. I workout for an hour 6 days a week to one of them. My question would be, after 5 or so years of this would I still be getting any benefit from them?
Incidentally my Mum served you in a shop just before Christmas and said you looked absolutely fantastic!

CrispyFern · 16/01/2015 20:28

Do I have to give up sugar? But I love sugar! :(

QuietNinjaTardis · 16/01/2015 20:38

Oh my god oh my god oh my god. I love you Davina! Ever since I saw you jump out of a helicopter when you were absolutely terrified in one of your programmes years ago I have admired you so much. You can do no wrong and you've snogged David tennant you lucky thing
Ah what to ask. Which of your DVDs do you recommend to help a slightly flabby, needs toning up mum who needs firmer thighs and tum? And as my daughter is still a baby I need to be able to squeeze it in to nap time if at all possible?
You rock so much Flowers

Have you been watching Celebrity Big Brother? Grin

Give up sugar for ever ? Shock

Lifes too short !

Hi, Davina. Love you to pieces, but don't ask me to give up my sweeties !

Weloveoptimus · 16/01/2015 22:37

Hello Davina,
I'm not interested in the slightest about giving up sugar. It gives me so much pleasure. I currently have an orange club addiction.
Hope it's ok to ask you a question about Long lost family.
Do you have to distance yourself a little when you're involved with some of the families emotional stories? Some of them are truly heartbreaking!
Also just wanted to say I remember streetdate from years ago and you were brilliant even then. (I am getting on abit)
Thanks for your sense of humour and 'down to earthness', it's refreshing xx Jane, h and em x

TeaAndALemonTart · 17/01/2015 07:41

I would like to know if you've got the hump with Holly Wassername for nicking your baby name?

Disclaimer: I know your Chester isn't a baby anymore but you had the name first.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 17/01/2015 12:06

Hi Davina, really looking forward to getting back from work on Monday to join you for the web-chat (I work mornings in pre-school with littlies - mornings is enough!!) But can we talk more than diet and fitness ?!

I think you're an awesome, wise, and grounded woman. Watching your cycle ride (on telly) was amazing !
So can you tell me what's your life philosophy?
More personally how do I begin to move on this year from a difficult family bereavement? He was too young as well Sad Still feel devastated.

To help you answer that my own two DC are a great blessing (children can thankfully be robust in the face of loss I've found) and I'm finding the simple challenge of being thankful for things - like on the daily gratitudes thread here on MN - is helpful.

What else can I do to begin to move forwards in positive ways?
I know, you will tell me to get out for a walk or run or cycle ride won't you?
You might even be right!

MadeInChorley · 17/01/2015 16:41

Oh Davina, we share a gynaecologist (saw you in the waiting room). That makes us practically sisters. I haven't done your DVD, but my question is do I need a good pelvic floor before I start?

Icantfindaname · 17/01/2015 19:37

Hi Davina, you, Mark and Jackie are firm favourites in our house. For some bizarre reason my children love me doing "your exercise" and sit and watch the whole thing! Hmm

I have been working out to your DVD's since the birth of my second child 6 years ago. They got me fit when I just didn't have the opportunity to leave the house to exercise. So thank you. I am fitter now than I ever was in my 20's and I feel really proud of my strength and in particular my core strength.

I would like to know if you work out to your DVD's ever? Or do you train harder than your DVD's are? If you do which is your favourite? ( sorry if that's three questions)

Thanks

Haggisfish · 18/01/2015 08:42

Yes, bring back streetmate!! Totes loved it.

IamTitanium · 18/01/2015 15:14

Hey
I am seriously not fit and do not currently exercise.
What one DVD would you recommend?

Thanks Smile

ElphabaTheGreen · 18/01/2015 18:32
Shock

I alternate Jillian's DVDs with Davina's! This is too, too much!

My question is why no Mark and Jackie in the new DVD? Maybe you explain it there, but I haven't bought it yet. Was Mark's persistent inability to maintain a quad stretch getting too much?

Showy · 18/01/2015 19:14

Elphaba- Jackie had a bit of a health scare and had to take a step back from the DVDs I think. So Davina went online and trawled for a new, fit young man to make her sweat. WinkGrin And, frankly, I like her style. New chap is very good. Different but great. I do miss Jackie and Mark though. Even his inability to skip/balance and his showy offy stretching.

carlywurly · 18/01/2015 22:02

Hi davina,
I went sugar free last year and felt amazing and lost 2 stone. Christmas has scuppered me though, with tins of chocs all over my office and I've regained half a stone. Am I back to square one now in terms of kicking the sugar habit or is there a short cut back there and do I need to be hardcore with avoiding sugar in future?
Thank you Smile

ElphabaTheGreen · 19/01/2015 09:19

Well, since I got my question answered before Davina even got here, I say I get to ask another Grin

At this point in time, I can fit in one section of Fit in 15 plus the maintenance stretch while DS2 (five months) does his one and only cot nap of the day, which rarely lasts more than about 20 minutes. I'll try and add in a walk with him in the pram or sling later in the day, weather permitting. When I return to full-time work after mat leave in April, I'll have a two year old and an eight month old, neither of whom sleep well. From experience of working FT with DS1, I just feel like every second of the day is double-booked and the exhaustion is indescribable, which I'm sure you're familiar with! The only time I could conceivably fit any exercise in is after the kids are asleep, but all I want to do is go to bed myself in preparation for them waking up again, then being up for work at 6am! From what you learned during the Sport Relief challenge, is exercising on exhaustion and poor sleep counterproductive, or should I grit my teeth and get that DVD in before I go to bed myself? We are an active family at the weekend (lots of swimming, walking, bike-riding and toddler rugby) but I don't want to have to put off my own fitness until the DCs are older. Sad

PS I take my hat off to no sugar, but it's not for me. With no sleep and breastfeeding, chocolate is my only vice! Grin

HaPPy8 · 19/01/2015 09:32

Im curious as to whether this is just another no or low carb diet - as they are all essentially the same. Do you think food like porridge and fruit is unhealthy? I can't get my head around certain so called 'sugary' foods being bad for you and think excluding some of them seems unhealthy! But maybe thats my age and how I have been brought up to think of what is healthy food? And ive not read your book yet so may not be what you are saying at all! If it is a healthy way of eating, is it safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding?

Love your DVDS that I have done by the way!

nevergooglebrandybutter · 19/01/2015 09:58

Grin at 'we share a gynaecologist'.

After 3rd baby, I'm 4 stone down on this time last year and feeling so much better but still another couple of stone to go. I've just swapped my swimming to running/walking but am 'bonking' and running out of fuel towards the end of my run. Completely spent of energy it takes all of my willpower not to reach for chocolate. I'm having a banana and dried apple rings which I know are full of sugar but they keep me from laying on the floor in a heap and allow me the energy to make a proper lunch.

So how do you reduce sugar and still have energy to exercise or to recover from exercise?

Does this include fruit and natural sugars? what about honey? tinned beans?

Also what makes a good no-sugar packed lunch for once I'm back at work?

nevergooglebrandybutter · 19/01/2015 10:01

Also, DH is planning on becoming estranged from a family member so that he can go on long lost family and get a hug from you. Can you send Nicky Campbell round instead? That'll teach him.

mum1409 · 19/01/2015 11:36

Hi Davina

You are truly inspirational! My question is what do exercise do you do in a typical week?
