Hot on the heels of yesterday's webchat with Jillian Michaels, we're inviting you to drop by for a chat with Davina on Monday (19 January) from 12.30-1.30pm. During the hour you'll be able to quiz her on health and fitness issues and she'll be telling us about her brand new fitness DVD, 7 Minute Fit and her latest book Five Weeks to Sugar-Free.

Davina says: "I'm beyond excited about my new book Five Weeks to Sugar-Free! I want to show you how to give up sugar for keeps and help you along the way with simple, yummy recipes and tons of tips. I've also heard from so many of you who found last year's short 15-Minute Fit exercises really worked for you, so this year we have a brand new concept just for you with workouts to help you to tone up, get fit and burn fat (we love a bit of fat burning!) and the most amazing thing... They're only seven minutes long!

"Now, I know what you're thinking - seven minutes?! What can you do in seven minutes? The answer is a lot. We've been doing these workouts for the last few months and you just can't believe the difference you can make in seven minutes.

I can't wait to answer your questions!

Davina xx"

Come and chat to Davina on Monday 19 January at 12.30 or post a question in advance on this thread.

@Suelowes41

Hi davina. Can't wait to get your new book and detox from sugar ha. About your new DVD I have a knee injury with a metal plate in can I do your excercises or will it be to much for my knee? Thanks in advance xx

This is an annoying answer but please check with your doctor, as if I’m honest, I’m not quite sure and don’t want to advise you wrongly.

ImBatDog · 19/01/2015 13:07

Hi Davina :)

seems like a daft question, but i went chocolate/sweet free for a month last year to kick start my diet, i noticed that my teeth/gums really started to be a lot better and produce less plaque, have you noticed any difference since giving up the sugar?

I'm thinking of doing it again in Feb as i've been a bit naughty over christmas/new year!

DavinaMcCall · 19/01/2015 13:07

@frankie80

hi davina

I don't really see how one can cut out sugar, especially when it seems to be in EVERYTHING plus when you have a family, isn't it harder - I don't want to be making separate meals or buying different foods from everyone else.

Please advise as to how it works?

No, I agree. My kids still have ice cream in the freezer, but if we do home-baking we do something from the book, and as for main meals, we cook from scratch, so no sugar there. Have a great recipe for baked beans and ketchup - it doesn’t taste like Heinz but it’s delish and the kids love it!

ImperialBlether · 19/01/2015 13:07

Hi Davina. Do you know of any improvements to arthritis if you give up sugar? I have psoriatic arthritis which affects my fingers and I've noticed if I've eaten sugar/drunk wine my fingers are worse. Do you know whether there are any links?

WhoremoaneeGrainger · 19/01/2015 13:08

Hi Davina

I have rheumatoid, osteo and psioritic arthritis in all my major joints, especially my spine, hips, ankles and knees ans shoulders. I am also an insulin dependant diabetic. I have lost 7 1/2 stone in the last two years, but other than swimming don't exercise much at all mainly due to pain. What would you recommend?

ImperialBlether · 19/01/2015 13:08

Oh and by the way, Davina, are you a Mumsnetter?

ImperialBlether · 19/01/2015 13:09

x post, WhoremoaneeGrainger!

WhoremoaneeGrainger · 19/01/2015 13:10

I though that Imperial Blether. Isnt it just crap???

JugglingFromHereToThere · 19/01/2015 13:10

Love that you can say (even on this webchat) that you don't mind a little extra skin on your tummy as you have 3 gorgeous DC. That's how I feel. Having a child, or 2 or 3 is an amazing thing when you stop to think about it. I really think women should celebrate their amazing bodies more in this regard, and be less harsh on themselves about exactly what shape they're in afterwards!

presc1763 · 19/01/2015 13:10

I'd love to know how you cope with social situations? It seems rude to tell people who invite you over, what you will and wont eat!!!
Also I love a takeaway (curry) once in a while - its my only vice, I promise - so how could i manage it - how do you manage taking children out etc...

@JulesMacaroon

Hi Davina!

I am really enjoying looking through and starting to make recipes from your new book. I am also a fan of your down to earth approach and your desire to work with real people!

I have been staying off sugar for the last couple of weeks having done a sugar detox nearly 2 years. I've struggled with my love for chocolate and biscuits but have been re-motivated since Christmas, and feeling healthier already!

My question is how do you cope with difficult social situations e.g going out for dinner with others or going round to peoples' homes for a dinner party? Do you eat the desserts they provide or others are eating?! I find it hard with my family too when we're having Sunday lunch and out comes a sweet pudding. I want to try and sustain the changes I am making but be realistic as well.

Thanks very much!

I wrote this book specifically for that issue - going out to people’s houses or having a dinner at home. These puddings are yummy and I often offer to take one over to the dinner party. Sometimes, I will have a pudding, but I usually ask for a tiny portion and just have a couple of mouthfuls. But my chocolate mousse is the stuff of legend and I get asked to take that round to people’s houses!

Kerryone10 · 19/01/2015 13:13

Hi Davina. Just joined in so not had a chance to read through the rest of the questions. I need a bit of motivation. Since the 1st of Jan I have been saying tomorrow is the first day of my new healthy lifestyle but just can't seem to get motivated. Any tips? X

Calypso2 · 19/01/2015 13:14

Hi Davina, We're massive fans of Got to Dance in our house (my youngest son is an avid street dancer) and gutted to hear that last year was the last season. It was SO inspiring and what I really loved was that unlike other talent contests it really celebrated all the participants and didn't take the p* out of people for entertainment of others. Did you enjoy doing Got to Dance and are you sad it's all over?

Promondi · 19/01/2015 13:17

Hi Davina I'm so pleased to see that you are on here. I am desperate for your advice as a mum of 2 who has completely lost all motivation for healthy eating and exercise since Christmas. I know that I need to break this cycle but I literally feel addicted to sugar. I feel lethargic and annoyed with myself but can't break the chain :-( It would be really fab to hear from you and any advice you can give xxx

DavinaMcCall · 19/01/2015 13:18

Thanks for all your brilliant questions! For any of you going Sugar Free, good luck and let me know how you get on! And remember, getting fit is for life, not just for January :) xoxox

miluth · 19/01/2015 13:23

Hi Davina

I'm really interested in going sugar free but unsure where to start. Should I just cut everything out at once of slowly cut back?

Thanks

fandabijojo · 19/01/2015 13:24

Hi Davina!
I've bought all your DVD's over the years....but unfortunately some are still in the wrapper (best intentions and all that!!!) - Anyway...I recently bought your 7 Minute Fit one and ....I actually opened it....and then (even better!)....I've actually been doing some of the exercises! They are brill by the way :-D

I'm slowly working my way through the exercises (baby steps and all that!) and I'm finding them tough at times (I don't like push ups either!) but I must say your personality and honesty (i.e it hurts you too even with all your experience) makes the process much more enjoyable and has given me the push and confidence I needed!

Thank you :-)

JugglingFromHereToThere · 19/01/2015 13:26

Thank you so much for your awesome answers (especially to my question - that was so lovely) and for all the inspiration you give to others in so many ways Thanks Hope you have a nice day and a fab 2015 too x

fadingfast · 19/01/2015 13:26

Davina you referred to refined sugar as a 'toxin' earlier. I have always taken the approach that I would rather consume (and give my kids) small amounts of sugar rather than sugar-free products using nasty chemical sweeteners, which I've always thought are far worse than something that is derived from a plant (even though it is refined).
I've not read your book but just curious whether you think sweeteners are a good thing?
