Hot on the heels of yesterday's webchat with Jillian Michaels, we're inviting you to drop by for a chat with Davina on Monday (19 January) from 12.30-1.30pm. During the hour you'll be able to quiz her on health and fitness issues and she'll be telling us about her brand new fitness DVD, 7 Minute Fit and her latest book Five Weeks to Sugar-Free.

Davina says: "I'm beyond excited about my new book Five Weeks to Sugar-Free! I want to show you how to give up sugar for keeps and help you along the way with simple, yummy recipes and tons of tips. I've also heard from so many of you who found last year's short 15-Minute Fit exercises really worked for you, so this year we have a brand new concept just for you with workouts to help you to tone up, get fit and burn fat (we love a bit of fat burning!) and the most amazing thing... They're only seven minutes long!

"Now, I know what you're thinking - seven minutes?! What can you do in seven minutes? The answer is a lot. We've been doing these workouts for the last few months and you just can't believe the difference you can make in seven minutes.

I can't wait to answer your questions!

Davina xx"

Come and chat to Davina on Monday 19 January at 12.30 or post a question in advance on this thread.

Why would one give up sugar completely?
Why not just moderate?

@mum1409

Hi Davina

You are truly inspirational! My question is what do exercise do you do in a typical week?

No less than three times a week, DVD twice a week, a session with Ed once or twicde a week.

fixuplooksharp · 19/01/2015 12:48

Hi :) I LOVE the Boxing with Mark one of the DVD's I have of yours, it's one I continue to go to and know the routine pretty much off by heart (saying skipping joke along with you) Haha!! Is there a good full on boxing part on your new DVD? I love a bit of tough fitness :) x

PestoFrostissimos · 19/01/2015 12:49

Hi Davina!

Just wanted to say I was so worried about you when you did your Sport Relief challenge, and am so pleased you lived to tell the tale Grin

RebeccaJohnson1 · 19/01/2015 12:50

@JugglingFromHereToThere

Hi Davina, really looking forward to getting back from work on Monday to join you for the web-chat (I work mornings in pre-school with littlies - mornings is enough!!) But can we talk more than diet and fitness ?!

I think you're an awesome, wise, and grounded woman. Watching your cycle ride (on telly) was amazing !
So can you tell me what's your life philosophy?
More personally how do I begin to move on this year from a difficult family bereavement? He was too young as well Sad Still feel devastated.

To help you answer that my own two DC are a great blessing (children can thankfully be robust in the face of loss I've found) and I'm finding the simple challenge of being thankful for things - like on the daily gratitudes thread here on MN - is helpful.

What else can I do to begin to move forwards in positive ways?
I know, you will tell me to get out for a walk or run or cycle ride won't you?
You might even be right!

My life philosophy is to give more than is expected.

I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s such a tough one. I found with the loss of my sister, that it comes in waves. Time is the only thing that has slightly eased the acute pain. But I want to remember her. Two years on I smile a bit more when I think of her. Hugs to you.

Gratitude is a huge help to me. I always remember that when I got clean, I was just grateful to wake up in dry sheets and in the daylight, and I try to hold onto these thoughts and look at how far I’ve come.

nevergooglebrandybutter · 19/01/2015 12:53

thankyou. shameless plugs entirely the point of being here so forgiven.

powerballs eh? i'm going to need the book. fingers crossed for a free one.

frankie80 · 19/01/2015 12:55

hi davina

I don't really see how one can cut out sugar, especially when it seems to be in EVERYTHING plus when you have a family, isn't it harder - I don't want to be making separate meals or buying different foods from everyone else.

Please advise as to how it works?

Suelowes41 · 19/01/2015 12:55

Hi davina. Can't wait to get your new book and detox from sugar ha. About your new DVD I have a knee injury with a metal plate in can I do your excercises or will it be to much for my knee? Thanks in advance xx

DavinaMcCall · 19/01/2015 12:55

@whatwoulddexterdo

I love Davina and have all of her dvds. I workout for an hour 6 days a week to one of them. My question would be, after 5 or so years of this would I still be getting any benefit from them? Incidentally my Mum served you in a shop just before Christmas and said you looked absolutely fantastic!

As long as you mix up the types of exercise that you’re doing, and are still putting effort in, you will definitely be benefitting.

The boxing in this one is not as full on. There are boxing workouts on a new website I’ll be launching soon, that are a bit more intense.

DavinaMcCall · 19/01/2015 12:57

@jasper

Why would one give up sugar completely? Why not just moderate?

I believe that refined sugar is a toxin. I get sweetness from lots of other lovely things, but really don’t want refined sugar in my life anymore. But that’s just a personal choice.

Showy · 19/01/2015 12:57

Have they explained that you need to tell us your favourite biscuit? Hope it's not a dried up sugar-free offering of goji, wheatgrass and straw on a brillo pad. Gordon Brown once tried to convince us oatcakes were biscuits fgs.

DavinaMcCall · 19/01/2015 12:59

@sassie33

Hi Davina, i am currently recovering from an ankle fracture so am unable to run what exercises would you recommend as i am tired of being flabby and feeling run down? xxx

I think it’s important to make sure that you alter your diet to make sure that you’re not taking on the same number of calories as you were when you were running. And also to consult your doctor and find out what it’s safe to do. Contact Ed Lumsden on Twitter (@EdthePT) and Facebook when you know, and he can help.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 19/01/2015 12:59

What a lovely answer. Thank you Davina. So sorry for your loss, I didn't know Sad

Nice to connect beyond the diet and fitness agenda (though am sure it has it's place and I really should get out there a bit more for one thing - my friend does a park run on Saturday mornings and is always trying to get me along! And I could give up sugar, at least in my tea Brew)

But like you I'm a slight rebel agenda wise.
Big hug right back at yer!

RebeccaJohnson1 · 19/01/2015 12:59

Plus I do have the biggest crush on you, it would make my day if you said "Hey" lol :) x

DavinaMcCall · 19/01/2015 13:00

@chillychicken

Hi Davina! Absolutely love you and your workout DVDs! My question...I've always been reasonably slim but never toned. I've never had a flat stomach. I'm now staring at my 6 week old son and wondering if I've buggered my chances of ever having a flat stomach? I have stretchmarks and a bit of excess skin (sob!), what are the best stomach exercises I can do to get it flat and toned?

I’ve got excess skin but I don’t care. I’ve got three beautiful children to show for it. I just try and make it look as good as possible, through toning. You do need to exercise to get toned, there are no shortcuts. But the benefits are worth it.

BafanaThesober · 19/01/2015 13:02

I notice that you refer to Gratitude as something that keeps you grounded, and like you, I also got sober several years ago. I seem to however - have swapped one addiction for another - exercise, and can get very grumpy and out of sorts if I don't get out running, so my question is - how do you maintain the balance and not get "addicted" to something else?

Hi Davina!

I am really enjoying looking through and starting to make recipes from your new book. I am also a fan of your down to earth approach and your desire to work with real people!

I have been staying off sugar for the last couple of weeks having done a sugar detox nearly 2 years. I've struggled with my love for chocolate and biscuits but have been re-motivated since Christmas, and feeling healthier already!

My question is how do you cope with difficult social situations e.g going out for dinner with others or going round to peoples' homes for a dinner party? Do you eat the desserts they provide or others are eating?! I find it hard with my family too when we're having Sunday lunch and out comes a sweet pudding. I want to try and sustain the changes I am making but be realistic as well.

Thanks very much!

DavinaMcCall · 19/01/2015 13:05

@justwannasleeeeeep

My question...

As you can probably tell from my username(!), I am always so tired!! Now I'm sure that your average week is busier than mine :o , so I'd love to know how you manage to fit your exercise in to your days? Do you wake up super early? Do it in the evening after dinner? I'd love some tips :)

(and a linked sub-question if it's not too cheeky - how much do you do in a week?)

Thanks Davina! Flowers

I just want to sleeeeeeeeeep too! Life is mad isn’t it. I have to train in the morning or it’s not going to happen. It’s very very hard to get up early in the morning, but the way you’ll feel after you’ve done the workout will way out-weigh the toughness of the early morning. And then you can have your smug face on all day! I also eat after, much prefer doing it that way.
