Hot on the heels of yesterday's webchat with Jillian Michaels, we're inviting you to drop by for a chat with Davina on Monday (19 January) from 12.30-1.30pm. During the hour you'll be able to quiz her on health and fitness issues and she'll be telling us about her brand new fitness DVD, 7 Minute Fit and her latest book Five Weeks to Sugar-Free.

Davina says: "I'm beyond excited about my new book Five Weeks to Sugar-Free! I want to show you how to give up sugar for keeps and help you along the way with simple, yummy recipes and tons of tips. I've also heard from so many of you who found last year's short 15-Minute Fit exercises really worked for you, so this year we have a brand new concept just for you with workouts to help you to tone up, get fit and burn fat (we love a bit of fat burning!) and the most amazing thing... They're only seven minutes long!

"Now, I know what you're thinking - seven minutes?! What can you do in seven minutes? The answer is a lot. We've been doing these workouts for the last few months and you just can't believe the difference you can make in seven minutes.

I can't wait to answer your questions!

Davina xx"

Come and chat to Davina on Monday 19 January at 12.30 or post a question in advance on this thread.

Hi Davina. I think you need to do Strictly Come Dancing, can you give it a thought for this year please? I think you would be fab-u-lous, the show needs you. Smile

Good luck in the NTAs for Long Lost Family-you have my vote.

We don't share a gynaecologist as far as I know. Grin

A nice little treat just come in: Davina's 'people' have offered up 3 x bundles of Davina's book Five Weeks to Sugar Free courtesy of Orion books and latest DVD 7 Minute Fit. Everyone who joins the webchat will be entered into a draw and we'll announce the three winners at the close (1.30).

Hi Davina I have bursitis in my hips and knees.
This means that any hard impact really hurts e.g. running, jogging. 3 months of Zumba and I couldn't move, although I loved it. Is your DVD low impact as I really want to do some fun exercising.

APlaceInTheWinter · 19/01/2015 12:26

Hi Davina,
I've read conflicting reports about the health benefits of giving up sugar. Some raise concerns about the negative impact of cutting sugar from your diet so my question is do you really think we have to give up sugar to be healthy? Thanks!

Showy · 19/01/2015 12:29

I've just finished working out (all 15 minute workouts from Fit in 15). The kettle is on. I am very excited.

nevergooglebrandybutter · 19/01/2015 12:33

Yup, just back from my run. Very sweaty but ready to hear all about it.

Hi Davina, Just got in from work (with my littlies this morning - a nice morning if slightly chilly outside) and kettles on. Would you like a brew to go with your legendary MN biscuit? Brew

floellabenjaminsearrings · 19/01/2015 12:34

Hi Davina

I would love to go sugar free, but just a can't imagine being able to do it., given how much I eat at the moment - squash, cakes etc Grin. What were your weaknesses before giving up?

DavinaMcCall · 19/01/2015 12:35

@IamTitanium

Hey I am seriously not fit and do not currently exercise. What one DVD would you recommend?

Thanks Smile

7 Minute Fit is perfect for you. Start off with 7 Minutes and gradually build up as yo get fitter. There are 10 workouts to choose from, and the combinations are limitless.

DavinaMcCall · 19/01/2015 12:35

@Icantfindaname

Hi Davina, you, Mark and Jackie are firm favourites in our house. For some bizarre reason my children love me doing "your exercise" and sit and watch the whole thing! Hmm

I have been working out to your DVD's since the birth of my second child 6 years ago. They got me fit when I just didn't have the opportunity to leave the house to exercise. So thank you. I am fitter now than I ever was in my 20's and I feel really proud of my strength and in particular my core strength.

I would like to know if you work out to your DVD's ever? Or do you train harder than your DVD's are? If you do which is your favourite? ( sorry if that's three questions)

Thanks

Yesterday in the morning I worked out with Katie and we did Fat Burner Plus, The Hard Abs, Boxing and Legs. And I hurt today… I always say, if it’s not hurting, you need to look at your technique. I do do other stuff with Ed, but will do DVD twice a week because I’m too busy!

chillychicken · 19/01/2015 12:36

Hi Davina! Absolutely love you and your workout DVDs!
My question...I've always been reasonably slim but never toned. I've never had a flat stomach. I'm now staring at my 6 week old son and wondering if I've buggered my chances of ever having a flat stomach? I have stretchmarks and a bit of excess skin (sob!), what are the best stomach exercises I can do to get it flat and toned?

DavinaMcCall · 19/01/2015 12:37

@carlywurly

Hi davina, I went sugar free last year and felt amazing and lost 2 stone. Christmas has scuppered me though, with tins of chocs all over my office and I've regained half a stone. Am I back to square one now in terms of kicking the sugar habit or is there a short cut back there and do I need to be hardcore with avoiding sugar in future? Thank you Smile

After my Sport Relief challenge last year, I had a similar problem and found it really really hard to kick again. I know this is going to sound liken a plug so please forgive me, but the 5 week programme at the back of the book #5WeeksToSugarFree is really helpful because it gives you a programme you have to follow - sometimes it’s helpful to be lead. In the last week of it, there’s not even any honey or maple syrup. If I did it, you can do it! xoxox

Showy · 19/01/2015 12:38

I couldn't agree more re hurting the next day. I have that quad burn today where attempting to sit on the loo is a real test. Nowt like going to engage muscles which have packed up and fecked off.

@HaPPy8

Im curious as to whether this is just another no or low carb diet - as they are all essentially the same. Do you think food like porridge and fruit is unhealthy? I can't get my head around certain so called 'sugary' foods being bad for you and think excluding some of them seems unhealthy! But maybe thats my age and how I have been brought up to think of what is healthy food? And ive not read your book yet so may not be what you are saying at all! If it is a healthy way of eating, is it safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding?

Love your DVDS that I have done by the way!

No, not low carb. It’s about a balanced diet, boosting your metabolism and portion control. Please read the book, sounds like we’re on the same page. If I were you, I would not bother thinking about weightloss until you have finished breast-feeding. Big hugs xox

EdYouKateShaun · 19/01/2015 12:39

Davina, you are my favourite person on TV. You seem so real and I won't hear a word against you.
I also want to know how your hair is so beautiful.

I love that you haven't yo yo'd like so many celebs with workout DVDs.

I wish you were my gynae sister! too creepy?

chockbic · 19/01/2015 12:40

Davina, what is the best exercise for an old slob such as myself?

Nothing too strenuous please Smile

DavinaMcCall · 19/01/2015 12:41

Hi Davina

I would love to go sugar free, but just a can't imagine being able to do it., given how much I eat at the moment - squash, cakes etc Grin. What were your weaknesses before giving up?

My huge weaknesses were chocolate bars. I understand that feeling of grief that comes with the thought of giving up sugar. It’s like mourning. Sugar supports you in hard times - crying with a nice big bar of chocolate - but actually it’s just a habit and you have to break the habit. But once you’re free, it’s amazing!! Use the 5 Week programme in the book, it works.

hetov14 · 19/01/2015 12:41

Hi Davina,

Firstly you are inspirational to us mums - in fact awesome.
I love sugar(!) how can I keep my energy levels up and motivate myself whilst cutting out sugar?

Thanks,
Helen x

ElphabaTheGreen · 19/01/2015 12:43

Workout gear? Aren't you freeeeeeezing?!

DavinaMcCall · 19/01/2015 12:44

@nevergooglebrandybutter

Grin at 'we share a gynaecologist'.

After 3rd baby, I'm 4 stone down on this time last year and feeling so much better but still another couple of stone to go. I've just swapped my swimming to running/walking but am 'bonking' and running out of fuel towards the end of my run. Completely spent of energy it takes all of my willpower not to reach for chocolate. I'm having a banana and dried apple rings which I know are full of sugar but they keep me from laying on the floor in a heap and allow me the energy to make a proper lunch.

So how do you reduce sugar and still have energy to exercise or to recover from exercise?

Does this include fruit and natural sugars? what about honey? tinned beans?

Also what makes a good no-sugar packed lunch for once I'm back at work?

I use the Power Balls in the book - they are perfect if I’m doing a long distance bike ride that’s what I’d take with.

I don’t need sugar to exercise, but I do need a balanced diet, which includes healthy carbs and protein.

Yes. I eat fruit - as much with the skin on as possible for fibre, and I also use honey. I avoid baked beans with sugar, but I do Baked Beans Sugar-Free in my book (shameless plug!).

I love my Pitted Bagels (see book), wholemeal bagel, pitted, toasted, filled with anything you like (cream cheese / salmon, avocado, egg, tuna?). xox

sassie33 · 19/01/2015 12:45

Hi Davina, i am currently recovering from an ankle fracture so am unable to run what exercises would you recommend as i am tired of being flabby and feeling run down? xxx

DavinaMcCall · 19/01/2015 12:47

@Weloveoptimus

Hello Davina, I'm not interested in the slightest about giving up sugar. It gives me so much pleasure. I currently have an orange club addiction. Hope it's ok to ask you a question about Long lost family. Do you have to distance yourself a little when you're involved with some of the families emotional stories? Some of them are truly heartbreaking! Also just wanted to say I remember streetdate from years ago and you were brilliant even then. (I am getting on abit) Thanks for your sense of humour and 'down to earthness', it's refreshing xx Jane, h and em x

Thanks Jane. I get very involved with the families, but I’m so conscious of the fact that this is the biggest day of their lives and I want to make sure that they are safe and ok with the information that I’m giving them so they are alway at the forefront of my mind as I’m talking. If I was to start crying they would want to look after me, and that would be awful as I want to look after them. xoxo
