Ok this will stump you...if you don't have a HUGE amount of cash, and want an outfit that you can wear to TWO weddings - one in early September (ooh might be hot) and in October (probably chilly) AND you are breastfeeding so cannot wear a dress BUT everyone going to said weddings is super fashionable AND you have to buy online as you live in the back of beyond, what would you suggest ?

AngelaButtolph · 06/07/2006 21:30

cool shoes! Frannyandzooey was asking about trainer socks. was wondering if that is a sweat issue? ie are you asking about wearing them with normal shoes?

if you are, I think it might be better to go for an open shoe in this weather, and Palermo, if you like Birkenstocks, I would say update those by buying some metallic leather roman sandals, the shoe of the moment, and easy to wear. Cool and cool! They go with everything as well.

AngelaButtolph · 06/07/2006 21:32

And Palermo, I would cut off one of your pairs of Gap jeans, just above the knee. Great if you've got any that are a bit worn. thats a really big look right now; the shorts thing, but with denim.

Cappucino · 06/07/2006 21:32

heaven's sake Enid

MrsSpoon · 06/07/2006 21:33

... sigh... "its the season of the waist" . I've not got one of those.

southeastastra · 06/07/2006 21:35

i think we're evolving without waists!

Cappucino · 06/07/2006 21:35

still interested in my sales question

I get a first whiff of summer every year and look at my sad wardrobe and my sad budget

and think 'I wish I had something really cool from last year'

then everything is really cheap in September

palermo · 06/07/2006 21:36

Thanks Angela - love the sound of the sparkly Roman sandals (and cut off jeans) - can I buy them online?

AngelaButtolph · 06/07/2006 21:36

Ha ha; okay Enid. Am up for this challenge; breastfeeding so can't wear a dress, need something lowcost, for weddings in Sept and October, have to shop online...

Well first of all, I wouldn't discount a dress just because you're breastfeeding. I would say, how about a 1950s style strapless dress (easy access, non?) there are millions in the sales right now, even online; try topshop and oasis.. then wear a cropped jacket with (also for nork-shielding during feeding). Again; there are loads in the sale, and they look great over a strapless, wide skirted dress. Debenhams have a really cute fake fur cropped bolero jacket right now in their bridal dept sale; good for October..

I am a young mum (23) but tbh this season I find daily clothes hard to find. Yes I wear my cut of knee jeans and lots of white, I also wear skirts or a dress with leggings (not at the moment too hot!) ..but I find a lot of the things in the shops sometimes too dressy to wear during the day! I am a size 10 and can get away with little skirts and shorts ..but is this really appropriate walking around the shops with two 2 yr olds in tow? what would you suggest?

AngelaButtolph · 06/07/2006 21:37

Palermo, the best sandals I've seen on line are at www.asos.com they have a massive and v cool selection.

AngelaButtolph · 06/07/2006 21:39

Charlottesweb your embarrassed smiley broke my heart! so cute! okay; so your 'i look like i'm wearing a rubber ring under my swimsuit' dilemma...

Rhubarb · 06/07/2006 21:40

Is it ok still to wear a bikini and sarong whilst out shopping in Morrisons in the hot weather?

AngelaButtolph · 06/07/2006 21:40

the most important thing to remember about swimwear is that it is an evil invention and we really should have stuck with wearing full length gowns and going into the sea in bathing houses on wheels. but its done now, so we're stuck with it.

laughinglil · 06/07/2006 21:41

hahah rhubard ... I have seen a few! I do not get it either! WHY?

Rhubarb · 06/07/2006 21:42

because I CAN!

AngelaButtolph · 06/07/2006 21:42

the second thing to remember, wearing swimwear, like dancing, is a time when everyone is so concerned with how they look, they barely notice how anyone else is looking...

AngelaButtolph · 06/07/2006 21:49

now, the rubber ring. again, this is a great season to be tackling this problem. More and more, people are investing in whole beach outfits.. This is good, because you can dress up a simple bikini. I would say, the best look for you, is wearing swimswear with a sexy mini kafthan over the top. This will be A line and floaty, so will cover you up, but will also look uberglam. Also, you could try wearing a patterned swimsuit with a matching sarong, this is perfect for camouflaging your midriff! Have you seen the current H+M swimwear ads? Sexy chick (she's probably a size -2, grr) but she's wearing her bikini with a strappy vest top over the top, so you're only seeing her bikini bottoms, and then a blouson-style strappy vest top. genius!

fullmoonfiend · 06/07/2006 21:49

what about norkless skinnies?? Who are getting on a bit. What can I wear without looking like 16 from behind 61 from the front?

southeastastra · 06/07/2006 21:51

what was the name of that show you did in america angela, i can't remember, but it was funny!

Gingerbear · 06/07/2006 21:52

this is what I shall be wearing on the Costa Blanca this season

AngelaButtolph · 06/07/2006 21:52

Also, poisson was asking about jewellery with swimwear. I say yes! a big trend at the mo is loads of necklaces with your swimwear. Just make sure they're not metal or you'll get majorly burnt! nice beads or interesting wooden big necklaces are great; sort of a bond girl/movie star look. And especially good cover up if you're not feeling very nork-confident!

fullmoonfiend · 06/07/2006 21:53

splutter - don't think poisson worries about nork confidence

WideWebWitch · 06/07/2006 21:54

Hello Angela, you are making me laugh.

What about high heels for short people who want to wear them to give an illusion of being slimmer but also would like to be comfortable? I have stupidly wide feet so want something

closed toes because I have awful toes
high because I'm short
but wide too
comfortable but not frumpy
not flip flops because they're for work

I'm a lost cause aren't I? I'm honestly not joking either, tragic isn't it?

NormaSnorks · 06/07/2006 21:55

fullmoonfiend - stop stealing Christa D'Souza's line.....

So, Angela, what about my 'business casual' Q??
