Hi everyone,

We're delighted that Dawn French will be joining us for a webchat about her new novel, Oh Dear Silvia, on Wednesday 24 October from 1.30pm to 2.30pm. You can see Dawn talking about the book in .

Dawn will be launching Oh Dear Silvia, which is published by Michael Joseph, at an exclusive event at The Criterion Theatre, Piccadilly, on Friday 26 October, where she will be interviewed by Sue Perkins. Tickets cost £15 and include a signed copy of the book. You can buy tickets here or on 0844 847 1778 and very excitingly, we have a pair of tickets to give away.

Anyone who posts a question on this thread for Dawn (either during the live webchat itself or in advance) will be entered into a draw to win a pair of tickets to the event, so do join Dawn for a chat on Wednesday or post a question for her in advance here.

Thanks

MNHQ

Hullo, Dawn, thank you for coming onto Mumsnet. And welcome.

I hope you've got your favourite biscuit answer sorted.

I'd like to know whether you had any inkling at school that creative writing would be one of your BowStrings when you were a grown up?

ChaosTrulyReigns · 23/10/2012 00:28

(JaneG - could you get one of the ohters to show you which cupboard they hide the stickies in?)

Smile
aristocat · 23/10/2012 13:30

Hello Dawn, thrilled to have you at mumsnet.

My question is - you have been so successful as a mother, comedian, writer and actress, is there anything else that you would like to do?

Thanks.

rubyslippers · 23/10/2012 13:32

I'm to think of a question other than how do you get your hair so glossy and beautiful Blush

FWIW, I loved your last book - found it warm and wonderful

BeardofZeus · 23/10/2012 13:43

Rubyslippers, I was going to ask the same!

I would ask as you are clearly a magnificent writer, do you think you would have been a novelist all along?

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 23/10/2012 13:53

Hi Dawn, thank you for coming to mumsnet.
I've always thought you are fabulous and hilarious.
One of my favourite moments ever was the Hugh Grant snog!

I'd love to know where you like going for holidays, and what you like doing when you get there.

A word of warning - if MNHQ offer you any refreshments, scoff 'em quick because last week Justine nicked Miranda's banana!

Mono1 · 23/10/2012 14:10

Yeah, Dawn French, my hero! I spent many many hours watching and reciting French and Saunders sketches with my sister as teenagers christ that makes me feel old now
What's your favourite sweary word? Go on, everyone's got one.

JudeFawley · 23/10/2012 14:22

I wanted to ask the shiny hair question!

But I'd also like to know how and where you write. Laptop? Long hand? Do you squirrel yourself away for weeks on end?

PS my mate interviewed you when 'Dear Fatty' came out. She wouldn't stop going on about how lovely you were.

dinkystinky · 23/10/2012 14:27

Dawn - you're a brilliant role model to so many women and girls out there. Successful, charming, witty and lovely with it. Who were your role models growing up?

And a follow up question - what's your favourite biscuit?

mouldyironingboard · 23/10/2012 14:28

Ok, it's the obvious question. Is chocolate better than sex? What is your favourite chocolate bar?

trice · 23/10/2012 14:34

I bet it's not sodding chocolate orange.

I loved the book. Who is your favorite comic writer?

TheCunningStunt · 23/10/2012 14:37

Dawn!!! Hello! I will def be buying your book!

You are being interviewed by Sue? You are also appearing in 'heading out' that was written by Sue aren't you? Are you two good friends?

Thanks!

Shakey1500 · 23/10/2012 14:41

Hi Dawn Grin

What's your favourite way to unwind?

cm22v077 · 23/10/2012 15:20

Hi Dawn!

Please can you explain how you filmed the vicar-of-dibley-puddle-scene?
My friend thinks it's CGI!

Just incase you have forgotten: 24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mb6gie5jvc1r390avo1_500.gif

TanteRose · 23/10/2012 15:30

just to say, read her other webchat before posting, maybe? all the same questions would be boring, innit Grin

Welcome back Dawn!

no question - but would like to say how much I enjoyed Roger and Val Have Just Got In. Lovely, lovely programme. That is all.

YouSmegHead · 23/10/2012 15:35

Dawn aaagggghhhhhh

Oh My God

Sorry but totally love you, love everything you've done. Top of the pops is Roger and Val, the way you two work together is amazing. To be able to go from laughing to crying to laughing again. Your face in the final scene when the little boy was coming had tears rolling down my face with a huge grin.

Anywho better ask a question.........what advice do you have for a dreamer who wants to write?

Big live and sloppy kisses. X

MorrisZapp · 23/10/2012 15:41

Hiya Dawn!

Your XDH blabbed mentioned in the Guardian that you and he are both dating other people now. Are you going to tear him a new one for this indiscretion?

And more importantly, how does a National Treasure do dating? You, I mean.

dinkystinky · 23/10/2012 15:43

But TanteRose - Dawn didnt answer the biscuit q last time round (a Wagon Wheel is NOT a biscuit - I'm with Justine on that one)

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 23/10/2012 16:10

Wotcha Dawn. Welcome back. I'm so pleased you've returned. You're very much liked in our house.

What are your Christmas plans this year? Will you be on television at all? My Christmas list has your book on it. You can put 'ShowOfHands' turgid outpourings' on your list if you want to even things up a bit. Prepare for disappointment though. But then what's Christmas without a bit of disappointment to gild your indigestion?

worldgonecrazy · 23/10/2012 16:40

Hi Dawn

I'd like to ask if you have ever had a "sliding door" moment, and if so where would you be now if you'd taken a different path.

I know we're not supposed to ask two questions but can you say Hi to my mum because she thinks you're fab too, but doesn't do internetty stuff.

flubba · 23/10/2012 17:05

I love your work Dawn French (can't quite bring myself to call you 'Dawn')! Very excited to listen (???) to your webchat demain.

You have been on my 'who would you invite to your dream dinner party?' list ever since I can remember thinking about dinner parties, which is a vey, vey long time now :o so my question to you is who would you have at your dinner party (other than my good self of course)? Just so you know I also have a couple of historical 'interesting' people :o), George and Brad (because you just have to have someone to dribble on) and a couple of others too and it'd be a great laugh.

I loved Dear Fatty lots and lots and I felt you were actually writing to me personally lots of times. You were, secretly, weren't you?

cocolepew · 23/10/2012 17:41

Hi Dawn, book or kindle?

(Another one who loves your hair)

butisthismyname · 23/10/2012 17:49

Hello Dawn ( gibber) have you ever thought about writing childrens books?

{I

Dollydowser · 23/10/2012 18:04

Hi Dawn, you and I share many things, our first name, our love of chocolate, our enormous norks bra size. But I don't know what your favourite tipple is!
Do you prefer champagne or cocktails? I'm not fussy, I like both Grin
