Hi everyone,

We're delighted that Dawn French will be joining us for a webchat about her new novel, Oh Dear Silvia, on Wednesday 24 October from 1.30pm to 2.30pm. You can see Dawn talking about the book in .

Dawn will be launching Oh Dear Silvia, which is published by Michael Joseph, at an exclusive event at The Criterion Theatre, Piccadilly, on Friday 26 October, where she will be interviewed by Sue Perkins. Tickets cost £15 and include a signed copy of the book. You can buy tickets here or on 0844 847 1778 and very excitingly, we have a pair of tickets to give away.

Anyone who posts a question on this thread for Dawn (either during the live webchat itself or in advance) will be entered into a draw to win a pair of tickets to the event, so do join Dawn for a chat on Wednesday or post a question for her in advance here.

Thanks

MNHQ

saintlyjimjams I got stared at a lot when I was in China, some school girls even took a photo of me when I wasn't looking!!

I felt like there must have been something weird about me that I didn't know...but it happened to the other people in my travel group aswell!!

I lived in rural Japan and was stared at there as well Grin (and used to get people running after me - perhaps that was more like being famous, than being out with ds1!)

Oh saintlyjj how sad that people stare at your autistic son and how much worse for you and him, and here I am wondering about "famous" people and how they cope. Shame on me!
Linerunner thanks for your comment!!

I saw Dawn on the One Show and still love her even is she didn't answer my Q! Re the hair though (and this isn't sour grapes) I think that there is far more to it than what she said - she mentioned covering up the grey (very expertly done!) and a superb cut (probably done very frequently) and the gloss - I don't know - must be the same thing they use on those women on shampoo adverts that lift up a curtain of gleaming shining hair. I don't blame her of course, but just think she could have been more honest.

Glad she seems to have a new love though - I never liked Lenny Henry!

Nananina I've sat in a pub with someone famous and people stared. But no more than they do when I'm out with my severely autistic son :)

She didn't answer my question either about which Reality TV show she would least object to going on. Sad But hey-ho perhaps she hates Reality TV.

Oh dear it took quite a lot of emotional courage for me to admit to acting like a school kid who hasn't been picked for a part in the play, because Dawn didn't answer my question. I thought maybe other MNs might admit to feeling this way too...........but obviously not.
Incidentally I wasn't picked for a part in the school play (over 60 years ago) and I can still remember it!!

Yes, that's true. To be honest Dawn was choosing what to reply to, and could have ignored any question she wanted really. Or steered the conversation back to the book each time.

She has done so much and people love her for different things. I am sure people will buy her book for her regardless of what went on in the webchat.

Well she did mention that no-one had mentioned the book so that must have been her expectation that people would mention it, if only to say they knew it was out tomorrow and were looking forward to it. Think some people did make comments after Dawn had mentioned the book.

Sparklingbrook · 24/10/2012 15:41

But what could have been said about the book Nana? Nobody has read it yet She can't give the story away, but everyone knew she had a book out.

I don't get all this bumsex stuff - find it irritating. I know it's exceedingly churlish but I am a bit miffed I didn't get an answer to my question. Anyone else admit to this? I think DF came on MN to promote her new book and was realy surprised that no one was mentioning it. Think we all think of DF as a fantastic comedienne rather than a novelist.

The question I've always wanted to know from someone famous is "how does it feel to be recognised by everyone" - what happens - I guess some people just stare and maybe embarrassed themselves, or ask "ARE you DF" or whoever. I've never spotted anyone famous so don't know how I would react. I did get a lovely smile fromJoanna Lumley at the cat show as I was excitedly telling my friend who she was! Oh god why are famous people so much "larger than life" - they're ordinary mortals really aren't they, just with special talents.
