The Hairy Bikers - Live webchat, TODAY, Monday 17 September, 1-2pm

Si and Dave are joining us for a lunchtime webchat on Monday 17 September at 1pm.

A bit of background info: The Hairy Bikers met on the set of a Catherine Cookson drama Shock. Si was Assistant Director and Dave a makeup artist, specialising in prosthetics Shock Shock. On discovering their mutual love of motorbikes and food, The Hairy Bikers were born. Since then food has been their mission, producing several TV series and six books.

In August they embarked on a mission to change their lifestyle and lose two-and-a-half stone, while staying true to their love of great food. The Hairy Dieters gave themselves just three months to complete the mission and simultaneously produce a book, The Hairy Dieters: How to Love Food and Lose Weight which, they say is 'real food for real people, not skinny minnies'.

Kicking off at the end of September 2012, The Hairy Bikers are embarking on a whirlwind tour of the UK. If you send in a question to The Hairy Bikers or join in the webchat, you will be entered into a draw to win a pair of tickets to not only see the Hairy Bikers live at the nearest venue to you, but to join them on stage and be cooked for by them. For more details and tickets, please go to www.hairybikers.com/tour

Chat with the Hairy Bikers at 1pm on Monday, or post a question in advance.

Hi Si and Dave!!
Firstly congratulations to you both on your impressive weightloss.
Does this now mean that you've both re-ordered those knitted shorts in a smaller size?Wink

Hi, just wanted to say how much we all enjoy your programmes, I sit down and watch them with all my children 19,17,14 and 9 and we all love you to bits. The Bakeation was the best, I was so sad when it finished! Having said that, I loved the dieters programme too, the highlights being Dave saying "Hellfire," when the calorie count was revealed and the run round Dave's garden when something was in the oven.(Highlight of the Bakeation was the Norwegian programme dressing up- I laughed until I could hardly breathe.)I also really liked the less typical hairy bikerish moments eg when Si revealed his childhood struggles with weight- very moving.

I do have a question though although really posting to tell you how much we all as a family love your programmes and appreciate your sense of humour! (And the recipes too.) Sorry if it has already been asked, but what are your tips to maintain your weight? You seem to have been on a very low calorie allowance for your size, do you still calorie count now or is it a case of restricting certain foods?

scottishgirl242 · 17/09/2012 12:54

I live in Kazakhstan (not through personal choice!) and only found out about your programme recently. I downloaded your book and have tried many recipes, enjoying them all. I have FINALLY managed to find leeks in a suspect bazaar so I'm giving the skinny beef lasagne a go tomorrow.

Anyway, my question is about bay leaves. I notice that you use them in many of your recipes and they are impossible to buy here. Not really knowing much about them, why are sometimes such a key ingredient?

Thanks and love your work!

dave here, the nicest food was in India, mostly vegetarian, but the best time we had of our lives was in Argentina. Fantastic motorcycling down to Patagonia. Mississippi wasn't to shabby either! Still got the hangover.....x

TheHairyBikers · 17/09/2012 13:02

@MrsKwazii

Ooh, hello. What do you think of Vic and Bob's impressions of you?

Si says: We love it, it's really flattering and they're good lads

ditas · 17/09/2012 13:03

Leave them out - doesn't really matter. Just add a few nice mixed herbs and happy cooking! - Dave. x

Love the Hairy Bikers!

We're trying to raise money for my gorgeous 3yo daughter to have a lifechanging operation. Could you possibly donate something signed to auction off at our charity night and auction? :)

My 3 year old Dylan just wants to say Hi to Si and Dave. He's now watching your Mississippi show

thebestisyettocome · 17/09/2012 13:04

Hello Dave and Si. DP and I loved your Hairy Dieters show and we've ordered the book which hasn't yet arrived from Amazon Your lovely blokey approach to dieting has really inspired DP to diet and he's already had some success Smile

I don't really have a question but I wanted to say how lovely both your families looked. Si, your two boys came across really well; a credit to you and your wife and Dave, your wife and step-daughter are hilarious in the way they constantly tease you. I loved how they call you 'Meyers.'

Dave - we're keeping the weight off and the simple solution is weigh yourself once a week. if it starts to go up, eat less. We both own scales for the first time in our life. We've eased up a lot and are in "maintenance" mode - we enjoy our food and rein in a bit if we need to. Our book actually helps us too - hope it's helping you.
