The Hairy Bikers - Live webchat, TODAY, Monday 17 September, 1-2pm

RachelMumsnet · 13/09/2012 16:01

Si and Dave are joining us for a lunchtime webchat on Monday 17 September at 1pm.

A bit of background info: The Hairy Bikers met on the set of a Catherine Cookson drama Shock. Si was Assistant Director and Dave a makeup artist, specialising in prosthetics Shock Shock. On discovering their mutual love of motorbikes and food, The Hairy Bikers were born. Since then food has been their mission, producing several TV series and six books.

In August they embarked on a mission to change their lifestyle and lose two-and-a-half stone, while staying true to their love of great food. The Hairy Dieters gave themselves just three months to complete the mission and simultaneously produce a book, The Hairy Dieters: How to Love Food and Lose Weight which, they say is 'real food for real people, not skinny minnies'.

Kicking off at the end of September 2012, The Hairy Bikers are embarking on a whirlwind tour of the UK. If you send in a question to The Hairy Bikers or join in the webchat, you will be entered into a draw to win a pair of tickets to not only see the Hairy Bikers live at the nearest venue to you, but to join them on stage and be cooked for by them. For more details and tickets, please go to www.hairybikers.com/tour

Chat with the Hairy Bikers at 1pm on Monday, or post a question in advance.

Hi...
Just want to say we really love your diet book. Both my partner and I have lost over 6 kilos each and it's still dropping Grin... What I'd really like to know is when will there be another diet book and if your not going to write another how can I adapt the recipes in your other books?
btw.. I wrote a blog about our experience using your diet book and was accused of being on commission Wink. I wish I was, there is a whole communitie of expats here in the Netherlands eager to jump onto the Hairy diet !!!

Helloooo!! Grin Quick question for Dave!

Dave, do you happen to remember going over to the Isle of Man in 2007 and meeting a biker in Heysham (big chap, glasses)? it was bucketing down (you were moaning about the weather!) with rain...you were talking to said biker about bikes and you asked for a go on his (on the island I understand), and he said...you disappeared for an hour on it Grin and loved it! it was a BMW 1200 I think; you thought it was something smaller. Anyway, Chris says hello! and we are coming to see you both in Dartford in February.

Love, love, love The Hairy Bikers!!! I'm a biker too!!!

Oh yes! love to watch you both cook too and you are looking fab ~ keep it up.x

Hello Si & Dave!

Just wanted to add my general adoration. I came to see your tour in Salford a few years back and was really inspired. I have your perfect pies book and the breakfast pie recipe is a firm family favourite (although we find it seriously improved by frying some mushrooms with the onions Wink)

We have two young children and my husband doesnt get in till late. Inevitably this can mean I end up cooking two, occasionally three separate meals in the evenings. Have you got any recommendations for anything that can be made for the children in the early evening then quickly jazzed up for us once the wine is open the children are in bed?

Hello! I don't watch much telly normally (though currently am breastfeeding hence am rather chained to the sofa) but when I do catch one of your shows I really enjoy it. I really like the way you are two ordinary northern blokes doing stuff that is typically done by posh southerners Grin.

What would you recommend in the way of an easy cook snack or light meal suitable for someone spending a lot of time on the sofa breastfeeding? Something that it's worth always having around, like toast and jam, but more substantial.

Hi guys! I absolutely loved your Bakeation show, and quite a few of your European recipes have become household favourites here. Are you planning to go back on the road?

Hi Si & Dave! I made your Bier rocks from Bakeation to take to a beer festival recently and they were gorgeous!!

My question is this - since the end of Hairy Dieters filming how are you finding maintianing your weight? The intro to the book talks a little worryingly of 'not dieting forever' and 'now we know we can drop the pounds when we want to' - does this not strike you as a recipe for yo-yo dieting rather than a change in general lifestyle and cooking habits, which would surely consolidate weightloss and make it much, much easier to maintain?

Love, love, love all your books btw!

We love you here too. My 4 year old son pointed at a picture of Dave on one of your books and said 'he looks like my Daddy' Grin His Daddy is hoping to be a hairy dieter too Wink

Does Si actually like cycling? Didn't think he looked too keen on the programme!

Our whole family watches the shows - DSs (12 and 10) very keen.

I have a question about telly cookery programmes - there are always chefs heading off to foreign parts and cooking the local specialities and presenting them to the locals.

Do you think, as we speak, that the UK is full of French/Swiss/Dutch/German/whatever television chefs showing the people of Melton Mowbray how to make a pork pie, or the locals in Neath how to make a bara brith etc? I'd like to see those programmes!

Can the HBs provide a short list of the top ingredients that I should keep in my kitchen in order to cook flavourful and healthy meals for the family. Note: hearty meals as I have twin boys age 11 who 'eat for England' as an Olympic sport.

Quick question - how do I make nice bread in my breadmaker? I don't have time/the muscles for kneading (nor do I have a hairy Geordie on hand to do it for me, like some people!). My husband complains that the breadmaker bread is too sweet and dry. Do you have a fail-safe recipe?

PS Please note I was on this thread first - just took some time to think of my question!

I'm loving the Hairy Dieter's tv series and bought the book with good intentions of losing some weight, but THEN the Mississippi Adventure started on Good Food and the diet has flown straight out the window!!

I sat and watched the game last night with a HUGE Po' Boy filled with salad, remoulade and fried shrimp. I blame you! Grin

My question is, will there ever be a book for the Mississippi recipes? I have the iPad app, but it's just not the same!

Hi. My son (11) and I have watched loads of your programmes together and really enjoyed them. What is your favourite area of the UK from a food perspective? I'm thinking of small producers/regional food rather than restaurants etc

Can I just say a very embarrassed 'sorry' please to Si and Dave. They came to Carlisle to book-sign at Xmas in 2010. I was the pathetic idiot who kept saying 'this is so exciting. Isn't this exciting? I'm so excited' while you both signed your lovely Xmas cook book for me. I am deeply Blush, I promise I won't do it again Grin. Can I just say you are both as lovely as you appear on TV, and very well done on the fantastic weight loss!

I was very disappointed that you didn't join in the dancing on Sunday Brunch yesterday! Would you ever consider going on Strictly Come Dancing? I reckon you would be great movers Grin and I and many others would love to see you on it.

Hi, just wanted to say we love you guys in our house and you inspired my DS (4YO) to get into cooking with me. Loved your Bakeation. Would you consider doing a trip to Abruzzo in Italy? No tv chefs ever cover that region and it's special to my family, as well as having the nicest, kindest people and amazing food. I think you guys would do it justice and you guys would bring much needed tourism if you did a show there.
