It's not often we get Hollywood glamour gracing Mumsnet Towers but we're rolling the red carpet out on Monday lunchtime, 5 March, when we're joined by Goldie Hawn.

Her legendary Hollywood roles include Private Benjamin, The First Wives Club and Death Becomes Her. Her performance in the 1969 film, Cactus Flower, won her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

Goldie is visiting the UK to promote her book, 10 Mindful Minutes, and the launch of The Hawn Foundation in the UK.

The foundation has developed the MindUP programme to help children reach their full potential and aims to teach children how their minds work and how their thoughts and feelings affect their behaviour. The programme has been implemented in schools in the United States, Canada, Australia and, more recently, the UK.

Chat to Goldie live from 1-2pm on Monday 5 March, or post your question in advance here.

Thanks

@TheAlmightyBob

Gosh. Goldie Hawn Shock

That MindUp thingy looks interesting.

Do you see mainstream British schools using it?

Happily we are already in mainstream schools in the UK. Catrina, the headteacher from Nightingale Primary will be joining me on the sofa on This Morning on Friday to discuss this further.

@PurpleRomanesco

I think this kind of positivity has been a long time coming in the education system.

How do you respond to the cynics?

I totally agree and it seems that people are more prepared to take different steps than in the last years in our school systems. There are many cynics always that is for sure. but that never stopped those of us who have the passion and the love for the well-being of our children on this planet. Nothing can be more important.

SophieNeveu · 05/03/2012 13:45

I hope you don't have Eamon and Ruth on This Morning, he tends to put his foot in his mouth, pretends to be thick and she puts him down, they could do with some mind up, bless their dysfunctional relationship! Good luck there!

Calamityboo · 05/03/2012 13:46

Do you see the Mind Up programme just in schools or will it also be available to youth groups and youth services?

P.S Overboard is the best!

GoldieHawn · 05/03/2012 13:46

@southeastastra

goldie are you aware of the playwork principles and the thought that children would be calmer in class if they had longer and more recess periods?

being calm would naturally come if children were allowed to 'run about a bit' more at school

I know that in America they have almost eliminated recesses. Physical activity is imperative for our children, not only to reduce stress but to bring more energy into their mind and body. I can't believe how they have eliminated this time for our children - it is so unhealthy.

champagnesupernova · 05/03/2012 13:46

Nods sagely and agrees with Honeydragon

Barbanana · 05/03/2012 13:47

Hi Goldie - Mind Up would have been consciousness-raising when I was a depressed & anxious child , & I too hope children with SN will be taught helped to access the program . Perhaps if more of us weren't having to waste our energy firefighting our emotional health difficulties , we'd manage moree constructive action instead of , as you day , political decisions beig in the hands of others

My Dh has always wondered whether the slogans you used to paint on yourself when go-go dancing on R &M's Laugh -In were in fact rather subversive rather than just poking fun at flower power - I'd guess so , as nothing comparable on TV at that time ?

Dancing - we dance together. All over the house. We put music on and we dance together.

instantkarma · 05/03/2012 13:47

But the well-being of our children would include visitation rights surely?
What are your views on Fathers for Justice?

Agincourt · 05/03/2012 13:47

Oh I love Overboard, it's one of my favourite films ever :)

GoldieHawn · 05/03/2012 13:48

By the way, I'm having the most lovely egg salad sandwich - I must get the recipe!

detoxneedednow · 05/03/2012 13:49

Hi Goldie

Your daughter Kate Hudson must have looked upto you as a mother and an actress growing up. Now that Kate is a sucessful actress herself, do you ever find yourself looking up to and/or being inspired by your daughters talent and individual style of acting?

Thank you so much!

Agincourt · 05/03/2012 13:49

it's most probably the salad cream that makes it taste nice :o

Goldie - who is your favourite actress?

nenevomito · 05/03/2012 13:51

You can't go wrong with a bit of salad cream.

Well, you can if you're two and someone has left out a squeezy bottle, but otherwise its fine.

PurpleRomanesco · 05/03/2012 13:52

but that never stopped those of us who have the passion and the love for the well-being of our children on this planet. Nothing can be more important.

Absolutely. And long may it continue.

I really wish you the best of luck with this. As someone who had to leave school due to depression I think anything that can help should be taken seriously. I hope to see this in Northern Ireland!

VikingVagine · 05/03/2012 13:52

Salad cream you say? Now that is one thing I don't miss about British food.

GoldieHawn · 05/03/2012 13:52

@instantkarma

afternoon Ms Hawn

Mindfulness can to some degree stand for 'that which is remembered'.
Given that your second marriage produced two beautiful children, and given that you are also promoting a book (co-written with Wendy Holden) about helping children be stress-free and happy, can you describe how you ensured your children would not receive the fall-out that can stem from a failed relationship?

This is a very interesting question, because break-ups and divorces are very difficult on children and Moms and Dads. I just remembered for myself to try to stay calm, centered and not so angry. Anger can poison yourself and your children. If you can have a happy face and move forward in the best way you can, they will move forward and feel secure with you.

DaftMaul · 05/03/2012 13:53

If either of my children's schools start your programme, will you be abe to visit to help them implement it? Grin Wink

Seriously though, I have not had a chance to look at your programme online yet but it does sound as though it could help my ds with self esteem issues.

Are there anythings that could be started at home rather than school?

Many thanks,
