Following recent debates on the EastEnders' storyline, and our meeting with BBC executives and two mumsnetters to discuss the baby snatch story, we're delighted Executive Producer of EastEnders, Bryan Kirkwood is joining us to answer your questions this Friday (21st January) between 12 and 1pm. If you're unable to join us at that time, please post your questions to Bryan on this thread.

Clearly Brian Kirkwood has completely failed to realise that bereaved women are a group of people who have had enough of the malicious lies and misunderstanding caused by this ridiculous storyline.
Frankly, I simply don't believe that he consulted bereaved mothers about the baby swap story because all of us who know about this experience have been consistent in condemning it.
It's a huge weakness of EE and immensely patronising of the BBC that there has been no apology issued. Which social prejudice will the next storyline reinforce, I wonder? I thought good drama was supposed to increase understanding not limit it. It's amazing that he can't see or even begin to acknowledge the mistake that has been made.

jonicomelately · 21/01/2011 17:36

I'd love to know where the positive feedback came from?

All in all a disgraceful account of himself.

HereMeRoar · 21/01/2011 17:36

Sorry I missed it. I see my questions didn't get a look in.

Why exactly did he bother coming?

I don't think he said anything at all that they haven't already put in their published statements. Oh, except to let on that the timing of the ending of the storyline was governed as much by Samantha Womack's resignation as by anything to do with the complaints.

He says they got positive feedback. I wonder if they got 12,000+ compliments?

Blackeyeddog · 21/01/2011 17:41

Booo. What a load of shit. Why did he bother? He didn't do himself any favours did he!

jonicomelately · 21/01/2011 17:44

What about transparacy at the BBC? I wonder if under the Freedom of Information Act we could find out the extent of the positive feedback and then, when it turns out it was three people Grin formally complain.

I am a fully paid up member of the awkward squad Grin

It really was a load of shite wasn't it ?

I (and many others) asked some straight forward questions that were either completely ignored or replied to in a patronising pat on head tone .

I have no idea why he came on here if all he was going to do was spout the company line that we have already read .

And in an hour he actually replied to , I think , about 10 questions . That has got to be some sort of record in itself .

Pointless .

Mumsnetters would be fantastic for ideas for decent television shows.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 21/01/2011 19:01

Well that knackering and emotional draining Wednesday was well worth it the other week Hmm

deemented · 21/01/2011 19:04

I really wish there was comeone we could complain to about this. FGS, we pay our licence fees which pay his bloody wages.

sevendwarves · 21/01/2011 19:35

Deemented I completely agree. I would suggest we all complain to the BBC but we'll only be fobbed off again.

Is anyone else actually more angrered by his question dodging and refusal to admit EE was wrong than they were by the baby-swap story in the first place?

FWIW i thankfully have no experience of the loss of a child so apologies if that's insensitive in any way.

RosieAndGin · 21/01/2011 20:11

Why Quote my name in answering Deemented and avoid the question I asked?, what a cop out Angry

travellingwilbury · 21/01/2011 20:20

I am so pissed off about this but I just can't see any point in any more complaining .

I am so sorry that MrsD and confuddled went through that pointless meeting . I know how wearing it was for both of you and to have this shite as the outcome is bloody insulting .

HereMeRoar · 21/01/2011 20:37

I hope MNHQ didn't bother with any biscuits or cake this time.

He should have stayed at home.

Hope he enjoys the soap awards, as I believe many are voted for by the public, i.e. those elusive, vast majority who 'understand where EE were coming from' rather than the small minority of us crazed mnetters who have taken massive offence. With that in mind he shoud have nothing to worry about that evening! Hmm

lottiejenkins · 21/01/2011 23:54

This is a drunken suggestion.......... Maybe we should picket the Soap Awards???
