Honest question. Is this site a religious site?

It seems to me there's a large amount of Christian posts. I've also noticed a fair amount of disapproval for other religions.

I am an atheist. I don't really want to be part of a christian site posing as a parenting site.

So is this actually a Christian place?

wise words IB. We also used to get creme eggs after church on Easter Day. A creme egg mixed with a waft of incense is a sensation you can't beat...

KayHarkerIsNotAnAuthority · 27/01/2009 12:37

Digestive biscuits are the most appropriate for conservative baptist, of course. No hint of papist cream or frills with a good digestive.

ruty · 27/01/2009 12:37

Very high MP. i suspect it was something to do with the rather, er, liberal ethos of those in charge. We had dance worship. That kind of thing.

RustyBear · 27/01/2009 12:38

Having posted that not entirely serious comment without reading the end of the thread, I was worried that I might have been interrupting some serious religious discussion.

I should have known that on MN, a thread like this would inevitably turn into a debate on the comparative theology of biscuits....

morningpaper · 27/01/2009 12:39

at liturgical dance and Happy Faces

sounds horrific to be honest - something needs to change

IorekByrnison · 27/01/2009 12:39

Dance worship!?

I might have known.

KayHarkerIsNotAnAuthority · 27/01/2009 12:42

Actually, I used to dance in church. With a strappy top and combat trousers on. Wasn't very liturgical, though.

ruty · 27/01/2009 12:44

oi don't knock my nostalgia. Twas experimental i'l have you know. It was trying desperately not to be repressed and middle class though obviously it was. Was not happy clappy though. [disdain]

Did you waft linen about? And make lots of 'graceful' movements with your arms?

georgimama · 27/01/2009 12:51

I've exited stage left at thoughts of overhead projectors and dancing in church.

procrastinatingparent · 27/01/2009 12:52

you have biscuits?! No such worldly thrills at our church ...

KayHarkerIsNotAnAuthority · 27/01/2009 12:54

were you pursued by a bear, georgimama?

I think we need to ease up on the dance references myself. People might start thinking this was a dance site posing as a parenting site.

PP, you're right, we don't actually have any real biscuits at the service. We do have quiche at the church teas, though.

ruty · 27/01/2009 12:56

This is my childhood you lot are desecrating you know.

georgimama · 27/01/2009 12:57

I've been in that play!

I gave up on Methodism when I went to a wedding reception in the church hall. No alcohol.

IorekByrnison · 27/01/2009 13:01

I have been racking my brains to think whether there is any truly ecumenical biscuit. I think it might be the Rich Tea.

morningpaper · 27/01/2009 13:02

rich tea, yes. It's sort of wishy-washy, limp, flaccid, useless and tastes of nothing.

procrastinatingparent · 27/01/2009 13:02

Obviously you are not allowed in to church dinners unless you bring a quiche. Or a rice salad.

We do not dance in church. Well, my 4 year old has a right old boogie.

KayHarkerIsNotAnAuthority · 27/01/2009 13:02

You should read the Methodist Recorder. Stuffed to the gills with irate comment about hymnbooks and alcohol. It's like DM lite.

Threadworm · 27/01/2009 13:03

I really like Rich Tea.

FAQtothefuture · 27/01/2009 13:04

well we're CoE, and we have a laptop with large (very fancy smancy) screen that gets brought out, and I'm thinking of using dance in our Good Friday evening thing that we do.........

However we also have a traditional Evensong (yawn - it's so crap without a choir though) and said communions 2 times a week as well.

KayHarkerIsNotAnAuthority · 27/01/2009 13:04

Rich tea is good for stopping you vomit, too.

FAQtothefuture · 27/01/2009 13:06

our Methodist minister used to go off down the pub with the CoE lot after the joint Alpha course (this was years ago). And my mum (a local preacher in the Methodist church) enjoys a drink (or 2 or 10 )

UnquietDad · 27/01/2009 13:06

The perfect biscuit for churchies is surely a very crumbly home-made shortbread. One which may be tasty and lovingly prepared, but falls apart when you dunk it in the Hot Strong Tea Of Rationality. And you are left with a lot of messy sludge in the bottom of the mug.

IorekByrnison · 27/01/2009 13:09

Threadworm that is as it should be. Your liking of the Rich Tea reflects your largely benign but detached feelings towards religious faith in general.
