I think my cat stole someone's Sunday lunch

Just that really

My cat has just turned up on my patio with a small roasted chicken in his greedy mouth.

He has form for sneaking into neighbours houses through doors and we windows.

I can't really go knocking on doors to ask if anyone is moving missing their dinner

Mortified doesn't cover it

Oh great, the cat haters have found the part of mumsnet devoted to cat lovers.

Tbf, reading the thread it was fine until the ‘cat lovers’ themselves lowered the tone. Why not keep it lighthearted like the actual op with the stolen food, and not laugh about the time your cat slaughtered your neighbours guinea pigs/hamsters/birds/fish etc. It really is not funny. You don’t have to be a cat lover to not appreciate that

Our beagle once pinched someone's bacon sandwich out of their hand Grin DH was mortified lol. I was in a shop and pretended not to know him!

I had half an avocado and prawn bap taken out of my hand by a passing dog. It didn't even break step, either. Quite impressive timing, really.

petermaddog · 14/01/2024 20:36

whenhe was young he would bring grasshoppers put them under the carpet/cats bring thing to you as gifts

My mum's ragdoll once seized the small gammon she had cooling on the side and headed off with it, fortunately she spotted her 😂

My ragdoll helped herself to the mince off one of DHs pasta bolognaises he'd made and had cooling on the side - she came upstairs and had orange on her white chin so I knew what had happened - went down and she'd torn the cling film, hoovered up some mince and left him the rice under it 😂

There's a thread on another forum I'm on called "the worst thing the cat's done" it's brilliant. I also love Bunnies are arseholes on FB, some of the things they've done!

Lifeomars · 14/01/2024 20:48

I am loving this thread, all these tales of feline (and doggy) enterprising raids and villainy. I have had a few cats but none of them have ever brought things home. However, I know someone whose cat is obsessed with KFC and brings bits home On one occasion they even returned with some bits in a box. How they got it through the cat flap remains a mystery.

Prelapsarianhag · 14/01/2024 20:57

My tiny little black cat grew up with my German Shepherds, she used to climb on their backs when they were resting, do the claw digging thing and get fast asleep while they were long suffering and unable to move until she did. She would come in when they were lying by the fire and look at them to make them move so she could sleep tummy up closest to the fire. We are in a big dog walking area and she would sit outside to watch the dogs go past and go total apeshit on any dog that dared to bother her. Gnarly little puss. Died at 18, much missed.

Sugargliderwombat · 14/01/2024 21:02

My mums neighbour told us the cat had eaten her Linda McCartney sausages that were cooling on the counter.

sqirrelfriends · 14/01/2024 21:06

My dog once ate my birthday cake, at my party. My mum was absolutely livid.

The only thing my cat ever brought me was a lone sock from next door.

Sillywillywoowoo · 14/01/2024 21:18

My parents actually met because my dad had a whippet that stole a pork pie from someone's table in the pub she was working as a bar maid in 😬

FloofCloud · 14/01/2024 19:41

I hope it wasn't your partner who told you that 🤪

No I caught him myself - the cat, that is 😀

mamboshirt · 14/01/2024 21:22

We are rural and my cat loves to bring in and play with mice. Twice he has put them in my ugg boots. Twice I've worn them for a few minutes before realising and screaming and throwing the ugg boot at the wall. Poor little mouse then runs off bewildered and I have to chase it to catch it. Cat watches this all looking very amused. Cat is evil bastard😆

A previous cat of mine, a Himalayan, for some reason did not like my DH . One morning DH zipped up his gym bag for his lunchtime rugby game and rushed off to work. He phoned me about 1pm yelling and shouting about turning the cat into chop suey. I finally figured out that the cat had pooped in his gym bag during the night. The cat hid under the bed when DH got home and all was well.

A friends beagle once stole a whole cooked turkey from the kitchen of a fancy country club

I'm very impressed with this. Beagles are small and turkeys are massive.

tresales · 14/01/2024 21:52

My greyhound came in from the garden with a whole cat once 😂I didn't have the heart to tell the owners, they probably think it just found somewhere new to live! Oh well, dogs will be dogs

Not really but some of the stories on this thread about hamster and guinea pig killing are vile.

Isabelle70 · 14/01/2024 22:15

20 odd years ago the Christmas turkey was left out defrosting overnight. The next morning I find out the cats have got in the kitchen and gnawed one of the turkey legs! bit of bacon over the legs and no one knows to this day... we only used to eat the breast meat anyway.

blackpanth · 14/01/2024 22:16

When my DH came back from work one Suday lunch time he saw a Siamese cat dragging a cooked leg of lamb along the road! My lovely ginger boy also had form for this!

😂😂😂

My dog is a very naughty cockapoo , had a couple of embarrassing episodes . I’d not long had him as an 8 month old rescue and we have a huge beach near us. Thought I’d let him off lead for a run about and he made a bee line for an elderly gentleman who had just sat down with his nicely wrapped up sandwiches. He had just opened them and my dog ran straight up, took his sandwich from his lap and out of grabbing distance bolted the whole lot in seconds . The poor old geezer didn’t stand a chance, I was mortified . The second time he misbehaved was when my husband took him to the same beach. A man was swimming and had left his clothes on the beach. I wasn’t there but DH said he ran over to the clothes grabbed his socks and ran up the beach with them ignoring my husbands shouts . He eventually managed to prise them back from the dogs jaws a fair way from where he had stolen them and was hoping to get them back on the clothes pile before the guy in the sea noticed , horror of horrors , he saw the guy get out of the sea and was making his way back . My husband had to hand him the chewed socks!

Edited

Dogs are entirely different to cats! If you can’t recall a dog then they shouldn’t be off the lead!

A dog once stole a sandwich from right out of my daughter’s hand on a picnic and knocked her backwards. The owner seemed to think it was fine as “he didn’t mean to hurt her.”

I love dogs and had one growing up but these irresponsible owners drove me bonkers!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 14/01/2024 23:15

Just as balance to the cats eating pets posts. Our neighbour’s hamster escaped and somehow ended up in our house - we think he got in a gap under their sink and eventually made his way through pipes and appeared in our bathroom. When I got up and saw him wandering around the hallway I thought I had lost my mind. Anyway, with some quick manoeuvres and a Tupperware box, I rescued him from our cat (and lucky for hammy she is kept in the kitchen overnight or he would have definitely been a goner) and he was returned next door. His small owner sent the cat a card from the hamster which said “thank you for not eating me” 😂

Big koi carp are extremely expensive, the pond owners must have been livid.

And it’s not just the money, you can spend years growing them on and some of them get really friendly, they do have personalities and you get really attached to them when you spend time with them every day.

Yes some of ours are over 20 years old, they have names. Far longer lived than my catsSmile

That’s why I don’t like cat owners. People on here describing how their cats have killed their neighbours children’s hamsters, pet/exotic birds, ripped the heads off a whole litter of guinea pigs, all like they’re hilariously funny anecdotes. It’s NOT kinder to have someone wonder what on earth has ever happened to a beloved pet, and perhaps spend months looking out for it, than have the balls to confess your pet entered their property and killed it. Some of the food ones are funny, but a lot won’t be if you’re in that situation. Actually shook my head at the pp who said their cat went out 4 times in the space of 30 minutes on Xmas day, coming back each time with an assortment of steaming hot food for a Xmas dinner, including the turkey. Why the fuck wouldn’t you think ‘that’s someone’s Xmas dinner my pets just ruined, perhaps I’d better keep it in for a little bit’.

Yeah well, at least cat owners don't keep pets that kill people.

blacksax · 14/01/2024 23:30

Yeah well, at least cat owners don't keep pets that kill people.

If they did kill people then some cat owners would just be like "oh well, free to roam and all that"

WhichEllie · 15/01/2024 00:27

I love some of these stories and I wish mine had just nicked food when I let her out! My older cat stayed inside, but when she passed from cancer I adopted a kitten that I decided to allow out in the evenings.

The problem was that I’d moved to the US and I had no idea what the hell animals she kept bringing back. It wasn’t just mice, no, she’d bring back piles and piles of these little venomous (!) shrews and leave them in heaps on the patio. No regular squirrels but she’d bring back a flying squirrel. No rats but she hauled in a muskrat (dripping wet and very proud of herself). Finally she dragged back something that I was sure was a neighbour’s pet ferret but actually turned out to be a mink.

I really wasn’t interested in becoming acquainted with the fauna of the Northeastern United States by having deceased specimens deposited on my doormat so needless to say she stays indoors now.

LaurieStrode · 15/01/2024 03:06

You know, this thread went from an amusing one of a cat nicking a cooked meal to a disgusting litany of domestic felines killing and torturing live animals.

Many of you seem totally unable to read the room and keep it lighthearted, or to have consideration for others.

Think before you post.
