I have a question about centaur babies.

Would the human section be all floppy and helpless like a whole human baby, while the horsey but be able to walk around like a horse baby? Or would both half’s be either humanly floppy and under developed or Horsily matured?

and how would mama centaur birth something that shape?

I’ll have a pint of whatever you’re on

I think that it would have to be as physically mature as a horse foal, for the same reasons - ability to get up and run with it's mother if necessary.

Got a point though. You don't really see centaur babies in art or film... maybe because it's quite a strangely disturbing thought.

Oh, that's a really good question. I think maybe the legs could go but the human part would be slumped, maybe curled round onto its back.

I also think they would have to mature at equal rates. Or perhaps their rate of overall maturity is not split into two as they are a standalone creature IYSWIM.

I think Centaur pregnancy is longer so Centaur newborns are more like toddlers IYSWIM.

As for how the mother would give birth.... again possibly something completely different- perhaps they hatch from giant eggs?

I'm gonna have to google

Just looking at pictures of centaurs…. Where are their bits?
Are they in the human groin area that joins on to the horse, or between the back horse legs? They definitely have two groins.

I suppose it works the same as mermaid babies.

Lord.... i have just googled and there are alot of disturbing images out there.

I can answer this.
Their chest/ neck is less developed at birth than the horse legs part; they are more horsey at birth, and so pretty self sufficient.
The human part develops later, and becomes more prominent as the horse grows.

I can't think it would be that much worse to give birth to than an ordinary horse, really...

And what about unicorn foals? Are they born with a horn or does the horn grow after birth? If they come out with horn intact what on earth does that do to the mother??

The horns are little stubby nubs that grow as the unicorn grows.

or else they are soft like baby hedgehog quills before they stiffen up.

Assuming that the baby would gestate inside the horse part (given its proximity to the exit route). I think the human part would be more developed than a normal baby.

Horses gestate for 12 months so it would be more cooked than a human baby and head size wouldn’t be as much of an issue which is why human babies are ‘premature’ compared to other manuals.

Though I am wondering how the mother centaur would breastfeed, with human breast or horse teets?! Because in theory she’d have both. If it was from the horsey part the human part of the baby would need to be able to feed independently. More like a toddler than a baby!

Now I’m thinking about it… ok centaurs have a larger lifespan than humans, goes to reason that pregnancy will be longer, therefore would come out as a toddler foal ?
mas to how do they give birth - I’m assuming it’s the hose half

Also, horses are herbivores so what do centaurs eat?

Well no because mermaid babies have the advantage of being in water which gives the babies buoyancy. They wouldn't be flipping about like human babies

Where the centaur uterus is and centaur boobs are also questions that are bothering me.

unicorns I think have a little nobble like a baby rhino.

This feels like the type of thing you think when you're just the right amount of high, before the point where you start bingeing crisps and having laughing fits.

Does that hurt much with the hooves? having seen vets yank out a calf using ropes I wouldn't much fancy that.

Can I interpolate my query that occurred to me only this week - how did TRex mate with those great long tails?
