Help? I've acquired a very young kitten?

We've had a female cat visiting in the garden for about 7 months. We actually thought she belonged to someone but we discovered she had no home and was a stray. We were planning on catching her a couple of months ago but she disappeared. Anyway she reappeared and had a litter in my garden. Well I say litter. One kitten. Numerous attempts to catch her have all failed. She was happy to take food from anyone but would never let us touch her

Mum cat was found dead on the side of the road this morning. I feel so guilty as it is.

Anyway I've got the kitten inside. It's pissing it down. He's soaked. At a guess I'd say he's at most 6 weeks. He's been eating the food we've left for mum. He fits in the palm of my hand. I know nothing about cats really. Especially one this small

So I've booked him into the vets tomorrow. Earliest appointment

I have a 2 year old and a husband in bed from an appendicitis emergency.
So I'm on my own really

So questions
What do I do?
What do I feed him?
I've dried him with a towel and he's now all fuzzy but he's screaming murder

My 2 year old won't leave him alone but I can't split them cos she can't be left alone and he's like a tiny little thing. Any suggestions? Could I put him in a box for now? Just so he can sleep without being poked

Ok I don't know what to do.

Amazingly we have a home visit booked for Wednesday. All being well there we are approved. She seems to think I know what I'm doing. Now I have to pick and yes my heart is saying all the kittens

Best. Thread. Ever

SusanPerbCallMeSue · 04/11/2022 13:25

The answer is always more cats. Get all the cats.

Soubriquet · 04/11/2022 13:27

You can’t get the two little kittens as they are a bonded pair. So the single one is the ideal play mate for Peppa. But then, I couldn’t leave a bonded pair in a cattery either cos you know they might get left.

So the answer is….you end up with 4 cats Grin

How did I go from no cats to wanting all the cats

I'd also go for the single kitten. All sad on his own. The bonded pair might not want to play with Peppa. Then he will be sad on his own.

Zosime · 04/11/2022 13:31

So it's Peppa and two 13 week old girls then?

You wouldn't leave the little boy kitten there on his own, would you? 😁

Feline Fever. No cure, I'm afraid.

Soubriquet · 04/11/2022 13:33

Feline Fever!! That’s a perfect name

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 04/11/2022 14:10

Peppa has got you around his paws. Congrats on your new feline family.

Ditto.

Enchanting Peppa!

Yes, he deserves a friend, or two, or three…

You remind me of a friend of DD’s, whose family went to choose one rescue cat and came home with three. Our sort of people.

Piffle11 · 04/11/2022 17:44

Ooh take them all!!! We have one boy who's around 8-9 years old: he adopted us approx 7 years ago. He's the sweetest boy ever. I'd love another, but he's very territorial and I'm not sure he'd approve!

iloveeverykindofcat · 04/11/2022 17:55

You know what OP his paws are quite big. I think he might turn out not so teeny tiny!

Bobshhh · 04/11/2022 18:04

Our two are nearly 4 and the other night were asleep between us on the sofa (taking up 90% of the seat) and we both kind of sighed happily and said shall we get another. I imagine this is how people with actual children end up having more than one.

LeMoo · 04/11/2022 18:04

He's definitely grown - v sweet face, those eyes!

torthecatlady · 04/11/2022 21:34

The cat shelter is very dangerous, I went in for one cat and came home with two, almost 3... Grin

Athenajm80 · 04/11/2022 21:53

I chose one rescue cat, then had to get a second as a friend. My mate moved in and my then boyfriend was hurt cause "his" cat cuddled my friend more, so we went to get a 3rd, but it would have left his litter mate on his own, so I got him too...I currently have seven cats. The friend and boyfriend are both long gone.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 05/11/2022 08:50

I think cat shelters somehow implement the secret IKEA formula of people going home with far more than they intended and not quite realising how this happened....

Oh he is still small. Take one next to the box of tissues next year and you won’t believe the difference! I took one of our kitten curled up in my hand then, at 1 year, stretched out in my arms. And also one inside a welly as a kitten then sitting on it the next year.

TheMadGardener · 05/11/2022 10:38

I took one of my cat inside an empty box of tissues when she was a tiny kitten. Very cute photo!

Peppa is starting to look like he is going to be floofy - he might end up with a bushy tail like my DCat! Was his mum short-haired?

Looking forward to meeting George!
