Help? I've acquired a very young kitten?

We've had a female cat visiting in the garden for about 7 months. We actually thought she belonged to someone but we discovered she had no home and was a stray. We were planning on catching her a couple of months ago but she disappeared. Anyway she reappeared and had a litter in my garden. Well I say litter. One kitten. Numerous attempts to catch her have all failed. She was happy to take food from anyone but would never let us touch her

Mum cat was found dead on the side of the road this morning. I feel so guilty as it is.

Anyway I've got the kitten inside. It's pissing it down. He's soaked. At a guess I'd say he's at most 6 weeks. He's been eating the food we've left for mum. He fits in the palm of my hand. I know nothing about cats really. Especially one this small

So I've booked him into the vets tomorrow. Earliest appointment

I have a 2 year old and a husband in bed from an appendicitis emergency.
So I'm on my own really

So questions
What do I do?
What do I feed him?
I've dried him with a towel and he's now all fuzzy but he's screaming murder

My 2 year old won't leave him alone but I can't split them cos she can't be left alone and he's like a tiny little thing. Any suggestions? Could I put him in a box for now? Just so he can sleep without being poked

Ok I don't know what to do.

I have just reread the thread perhaps for the umpteenth time. Every time I laugh out loud.

softplayfail · 05/11/2022 16:20

Peppa is terrified of the fireworks. What can I do to help him?

Carry on as normal.

softplayfail · 05/11/2022 16:30

@GiantKitten scary how true that is.. actually turned to my husband and said do you think 4 cats is excessive

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/11/2022 16:33

We had four. When dh and I had the Bengal I did say 4 normal cats was less work than one Bengal.

From personal experience I can confirm that four cats is not excessive.

Chuck a quilt over the top of Peppa's house and carry on as normal. He can hide in his safe place with the sound a little muffled, but still hear you going about with life unconcerned.

iloveeverykindofcat · 05/11/2022 16:39

Poor baby. Funny one of mine is timid cat but for some reason fireworks have never bothered either of them. The more timid one is on my knee right now though so maybe she's feeling a bit unsettled. Make him a little den to hide in.

@softplayfail classic fm
Last year they did a pets evening as classical music calms animals, it really helped my dog
And as other say, cover his house and provide something to snuggle to
If one of you can pop out to pick up some feliway that might help too

Think it takes 6 to be classed as a crazy cat person

If peppa will sit still, you could also carry him around with you in your jumper this evening.he might like that

softplayfail · 05/11/2022 19:31

@LeMoo it definitely happened!

I reckon 10 cats classifies you as a crazy cat lady.

I have a friend who has 11 cats. She always swore she wouldn’t hit double digits…and then she did and carried on

We’ve had the classic fm pet music on this evening and it really does help minimise the impact of the big bangs (unless one goes off in one of the brief lulls, but that can’t be helped).
Definitely worth a try 🙂

Soubriquet · 05/11/2022 20:33

Luckily my cat doesn’t seem to care and the dogs are safe and cuddled up with dh so they are ok too

😍😍 its the perfect size for him! Is he feeling happier now@softplayfail ?

softplayfail · 05/11/2022 22:03

@LeMoo put a blanket over his cat cave/dog cage/place to hide from the toddler tyrant and stuck some white noise on. He fell asleep.

😊 I'm so pleased he settled quickly. Thank goodness he's not still living outside!!

@Toddlerteaplease not just you. Got back from pub and needed to check how he was doing!

Also running out of adjectives to express how adorable each update is lol

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 06/11/2022 10:05

I have soooo much kitten envy but I think DH would divorce me and current DCat and DDog would be MOST put out by a new arrival!
