Help? I've acquired a very young kitten?

We've had a female cat visiting in the garden for about 7 months. We actually thought she belonged to someone but we discovered she had no home and was a stray. We were planning on catching her a couple of months ago but she disappeared. Anyway she reappeared and had a litter in my garden. Well I say litter. One kitten. Numerous attempts to catch her have all failed. She was happy to take food from anyone but would never let us touch her

Mum cat was found dead on the side of the road this morning. I feel so guilty as it is.

Anyway I've got the kitten inside. It's pissing it down. He's soaked. At a guess I'd say he's at most 6 weeks. He's been eating the food we've left for mum. He fits in the palm of my hand. I know nothing about cats really. Especially one this small

So I've booked him into the vets tomorrow. Earliest appointment

I have a 2 year old and a husband in bed from an appendicitis emergency.
So I'm on my own really

So questions
What do I do?
What do I feed him?
I've dried him with a towel and he's now all fuzzy but he's screaming murder

My 2 year old won't leave him alone but I can't split them cos she can't be left alone and he's like a tiny little thing. Any suggestions? Could I put him in a box for now? Just so he can sleep without being poked

Ok I don't know what to do.

Make sure Christmas decorations don't have any fake snow. It's really dangerous to cats.

Lorddenning1 · 10/11/2022 23:09

I did this to my tree last year and my 2 kittens didn't go near it Grin

My last pair of kittens and several foster cats all ignored the Christmas tree. We were actually a little bit disappointed that there were no shenanigans. Well one foster did sit behind the tree hissing for a month, but that wasn’t much fun.

Keeping all our paws crossed here, for your meeting with potential new kitten.

softplayfail · 11/11/2022 13:21

On our way. I'm so excited!

Hope you've taken a cat box for the journey home...Wink

LeMoo · 11/11/2022 13:34

I've nominated this thread for Classics, apparently Mn have a board for deciding these things - who knew?!

Toddlerteaplease · 11/11/2022 13:37

I tagged HQ to put it into classics a while ago!

LeMoo · 11/11/2022 14:07

Yes, I think they need help deciding!

softplayfail · 11/11/2022 14:30

Ok we love him. Absolutely love him. He's gorgeous with big green eyes. He's 4 and a half months and slightly long haired. No photos yet. His rehoming had to be delayed because he had a nasty case of cat flu which is why he's alone. His siblings have all gone home. So we've agreed to leave him today (sobbing while leaving the rehoming centre), he's getting neutered tonight or Monday and we can collect him Tuesday all being well.

That's amazing news!! Not that I've been refreshing this thread for an update at all. Time is going to drag until
Tuesday!

Toddlerteaplease · 11/11/2022 14:34

Get a tangle teaser and a metal
Comb for his coat.

Mañanarama · 11/11/2022 14:36

How exciting! Have you got any photos of him? Can’t wait to hear how Peppa gets on with his new big brother.

dcontour · 11/11/2022 14:37

He sounds gorgeous. This is definitely the best thread ever.
OP doesn't particularly like animals. Isn't keeping the first one who shows up.
I went away last weekend and came back to discover the OP had applied to adopt another kitten.
And here we are, second kitten arriving on Tuesday!

Mañanarama · 11/11/2022 14:37

Oops sorry, realise you already said no pics yet.

softplayfail · 11/11/2022 14:40

@Mañanarama in my excitement to get inside I left my phone in the car. But no I'm not a cat lover, I swear

You’ve been converted and there’s nothing you can do about it! Our cat is the best thing we’ve ever bought, he’s 6 now and we’re all still totally in love with him. Cats rule. Literally.

How did the nail filing go?

LeMoo · 11/11/2022 15:01

Thank you for the update! Tuesday will be a long wait- what does Toddler think of the new addition?

Mañanarama · 11/11/2022 15:02

Oh and @softplayfail pleeeease start a new thread asap!

CatChant · 11/11/2022 16:01

Hooray!

I shall also nominate this lovely thread for Classics. OP, you are my favourite non-animal lover. If everyone who professed not to care for animals was like you, rescue shelters would be empty.

softplayfail · 11/11/2022 16:10

My daughter did come today. Cats protection insisted to see how she was and credit where credit is due she behaved perfectly.
She did ask if we could take all the cats home

We have decided to name him bingo. So we have a Peppa and a Bingo. All going well we can collect him Tuesday.

Similar backstory to Peppa, mum cat found wondering. Had 7 kittens. Bingo came down with awful cat flu. Which I googled and it looks awful. So his brothers and sisters went in pairs so they were so glad to hear Peppas waiting to share his home.

I mean it used to be my home, then I had a baby and now 2 kittens

I'm happy I chose to bring him

This is one of the most wholesome, heartwarming threads I have ever read. I've been reading extracts out to DH, who agrees with me!

It's my first visit to the litter tray board in spite of my user name (although Catkin Toadflax is, in fact a mouse) and being willing staff to a (we think) 12 year old rescued big floofy cloud of meowing white fluff.

Another vote for Classics here. OP please do start a new thread to continue with your cat hating adventures!

LeMoo · 11/11/2022 16:26

I had a cat who had cat flu when he was young. He was always a bit sneezy and had a couple of mild flares as adult, which were easily treated with a jab from the vets.

Lots of tlc and a stress-free life will keep Bingo healthy, and I don't suppose you'll have any trouble with that!

Snozzlemaid · 11/11/2022 16:33

This is the best thread ever.

Can we get it added to classics?
How do we do that?
