Help me place this actor??

I saw him on a train. Can’t for the life of me remember who he is.
He’s a British tv actor, probably in his 50s or early 60s. Grey hair, used to be blonde. Piercing blue eyes. Often plays a hero/ love interest type role.
a bit like Greg wise but shorter!
I feel sure he was in a Sunday night drama or a soap or something but I can’t find him online! It’s driving me mad!

He was my guess because I spent ages staring at him in The Larkins trying to think
who he was before realising he was Sir Anthony Strallen in Downton.
I had to cave and look up where I knew the one playing Alec Norman from — it was My Parents Are Aliens, years ago!

He is very rugged looking, tousled kind of hair. The actor who played max Farnham looks v similar but it’s not him.
He’s trim and short - about 5 foot 5 I’d say

I have definitely seen him on a publicity poster, arms folder, looking powerful, with the Yorkshire dales (or similar) behind him. Which is why you spent so long looking at emmerdale and Corrie. But I can’t find him there (I’ve never been a regular watcher of either so it’s possible I didn’t go far enough back)
