I've just deliberately sent my husband on a wild goose chase

I may or may not have changed some details of said hobby and equipment.

He has a 'hobby' that he is obsessed with. Let's call it wild goose chasing. He watches YouTube videos about wild goose chasing, he reads magazines about wild goose chasing, he has all the gear ('infrared', 'thermal imaging' etc) and likes to go out wild goose chasing on a regular basis.

Recently he hasn't been wild goose chasing due to some disillusionment with his level of success in wild goose chasing and the lack of presence of gooses in the local area. This means every night, for many hours he has talked to me about wild goose chasing. Reads out bits from magazines to me. Talks endlessly. Listens to goose chasing videos in bed and comments on goose chasing techniques.

Tonight I went out on a run and happened to see a wild goose in an unusual location.

Nonchalantly told DH about it and would you know it, off his own back he's excitedly gone out to chase said wild goose.

I've now had two hours of mumsnetting and watching MAFS UK without someone talking about gooses through it. I expect DH is still delightedly crawling around on his hands and knees with his thermal imaging goggles looking for said wild goose.

Only I didn't see a wild goose.

AIBU?

AIBU to see it again tomorrow?

He’s a “detectorist” (or beepbeeper as I call it) isn’t he?? If so OP.. god I completely understand and have done similar 🤣

Valmur · 02/09/2021 22:17

Looking for otters or pine martens?

I’d love to have an excuse to go out and pursue my hobbies, even on a false pretext!

Skatastic · 02/09/2021 22:19

I love this thread!

Raggedyanabell · 02/09/2021 22:35

@SoupDragon

He does love your flapjack though SoupDragon I might make him some today to appease for the horrible bullying he is entirely unaware he has experienced

I am withdrawing my permission for you to use the recipe because you are a horrible nasty bully.

😉

Is there a Mumsnet cookbook that I don't know about?? I love flapjacks 🥺👉👈
Shallwegoforawalk · 02/09/2021 22:45

@Annasgirl oh no Plan is deadly serious. Deadly. Absolutely no sense of humour whatsoever. She's a bit of a legend on here for taking everything absolutely literally. It gets quite tiresome.

I think there was one once.

You need to google soupdragon flapjack and it brings up the proper recipe which is the best but I must admit I use a bastardised version these days as my weighing scales were very badly designed by Salter (they don't have an off button, you have to take the battery out every single time) so I no longer use them unless I absolutely have to.

I should buy new ones really

Anyway, inspired by soupdragon's flapjack I put a block of butter, a tin of condensed milk and a really good squirt of golden syrup in a pan and melt it all together then add shit oats until it's the right consistency. Bake in oven and try not to burn it too much.

I won't reveal the hobby, if I did you would understand why.

If I wanted to I would. But I don't want to. Sorry!

I think I love you, this is brilliant lol

LucyAutumn · 02/09/2021 22:57

Is it otters?!

LucyAutumn · 02/09/2021 22:57

Or deer?

everythingbutthesink · 02/09/2021 23:02

Hahahahahhahaha

ChasedByFox · 02/09/2021 23:03

Isn't the cookbook called something like Top banana?

Soupy's recipe is just in the recipe section.... wherever that is these days!

Happylittlethoughts · 02/09/2021 23:04

🤣🤣🤣love it

ScotLot · 02/09/2021 23:11

@GooseyGooseyWander this is rather irrelevant to the thread but I have salter scales that I thought didn't have an off button until one of the kids figured out if you hold down the on button it goes off, maybe worth a try if you haven't already

SoupDragon · 02/09/2021 23:26

Is it? I think I've only ever posted it on threads about flapjacks.

SoupDragon · 02/09/2021 23:28

Now I've looked I don't think there is a recipe section any more, only the topic on Talk.

DesertSky · 02/09/2021 23:40

You’ve made me chuckle OP. Tbh after 18 months of both my husband and I working from home, I’d be half tempted to concoct a similar plan in order to have the house to myself for once! Grin

BobLemon · 02/09/2021 23:47

I’ve read this whole thread out loud to my OH, who is known to have hobbies which require equipment and late night YouTube binges. And likes birdwatching. But all he could come up with is badgers or otters! But why would there be magazines about spotting otters?

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/09/2021 23:49

Do you live near the Brecon Beacons, by any chance, @GooseyGooseyWander ?

If so, I think the gooses are SAS types, hiding in the undergrowth with bits of netting on their helmets and brown and green facepaint.

It would explain the need for silence and stealth, since they are trained to kill if discovered.

Alternatively, if you live near the sea, is it submarines? Is he out there scanning for periscopes?

@mytortoiseisill

Still recovering from this post 17 pages back:

“I saw something the other day about a woman who would put drops of water on the ground by the washing machine to entertain her husband when she needed some quiet time“

My dad likes to escape my mum. He will claim something in my house needs fixing and he will also need to go via the DIY shop Reality? He's sat on my sofa, drinking coffee and watching top gear HmmGrin

Dolphins/whales ? (If your goosey wood is metaphorical too.)

Note for earlier poster:
Glow-worms are a lovely part of life here (south coast of England /cliff-top/ parkland). You really don't have to go to America to see them. There is an annual count of them at the end of July and special walks to take visitors to see them at other times.

I found the MN recipe section by searching for 'MumsNet recipes'.... I'm not sure it's linked to from the MumsNet Food section.

www.mumsnet.com/food/recipes

It has many flapjack recipes, this one has a comment attributing it to Soupdragon

www.mumsnet.com/food/recipe/2699-Flapjacks

Why I'm hunting for a flapjack recipe including condensed milk when I don't have any in the house and it's past midnight I don't know. Maybe because I regularly see wild geese and need more of a challenge?

ChasedByFox · 03/09/2021 00:36

Maybe it's a dragon thing? Grin
Tbf, I haven't looked up the flapjack recipe for about ten years, and there was a tab at the top of the page for recipes then.

LosingMySh1t · 03/09/2021 01:02

I have so much to learn from you oh great one.
