Can't get the fricking lids off these jars!

I know this is a first world problem, but if anyone can offer any cunning solution to aid me try and get into these jars I would be most grateful. I have tried the usual techniques, tapping lid on floor, even took a hammer to one in a fit of pique. Nothing. Nothing at all...gah!

Oh I genuinely wish I hadn't seen that Jesus. Maybe I could add it to a wishlist and then it wouldn't be my fault if it turned up at the house?

Taranta · 17/07/2020 20:00

@JesusInTheCabbageVan

I'm left handed!! Fate or what?
Oh, but I'm left-handed too - don't let that give you any false sense of security!!!

There is absolutely no way that could possibly be your fault .

StillWeRise · 17/07/2020 20:03

i know it's a bit late to be offering suggestions but DS taps on the lid with a teaspoon and that seems to work. He doesn't even do it that hard. Wierd.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 17/07/2020 20:04

@Taranta yeah... but you have soft little London hands, don't you? Little doll hands? No shame in that of course, but just not very practical if you want some tuna.

Have you received it?!
PenOrPencil · 17/07/2020 20:24

We have what is apparently called a “boa constrictor jam jar opener”. It’s amazing.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 17/07/2020 20:31

qnc01 ah, I was talking about churros there, but yes I have received the jar (if that's what you mean).

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/07/2020 20:41

I dare not buy a churros maker - I would become entirely spherical, eating my (not inconsiderable) body weight in churros.

Taranta · 17/07/2020 20:51

Well that's true @JesusInTheCabbageVan, so tonight I moved on to fancy 'Sardines Al Limone' which have buckled immediately under the first whiff of pressure from my soft little doll hands, I am gratified to report!

Those look delicious, @Taranta!

MrsGrindah · 17/07/2020 21:07

@Taranta Are you holed up in a bunker somewhere , living off your zombie apocalypse stash?!

DameFanny · 17/07/2020 21:10
Taranta · 17/07/2020 21:13

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius they are so delicious...

Ha @MrsGrindah you'd think, but actually I can't be arsed with any kind of dish that requires more than opening a tin of fish and chucking it on a bowl of salad. Job done. Actually get a bit panicky when I'm down to the last dozen cans of tinned fish in the bunker horde... Grin

tinkiiev · 17/07/2020 21:16

Did you keep the first jar, Taranta??

Taranta · 17/07/2020 21:23

Yes @tinkiiev so I can watch and learn from the master tomorrow AKA @JesusInTheCabbageVan

BoreOfWhabylon · 17/07/2020 21:28

Oh, this thread is proper Mumsnet!

If Jesus can't open the jar, I volunteer to try next. In return, I will send a tin of those sardines in lemon, same as OP has.

DameFanny · 17/07/2020 21:31

Isn't it lovely and retro Bore Smile

No offers to try the jar here though, I have zero grip strength and only the cats eat tuna Grin

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 17/07/2020 21:35

I've never been so instantly invested in a thread and I am already mildly outraged that I don't have closure yet. BOOKMARKING.

ItsSummer · 17/07/2020 21:36

This thread is the most exciting thing that’s happened to me since March...

BarrelOfOtters · 17/07/2020 21:42

Try the sardine picante from Waitrose. We no longer have Waitrose and that’s what I miss most.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 17/07/2020 21:42

Careful now, I can see this failure to open a jar tuning into a mlm scheme if you have to send tins of tuna up the line...

covert place marking

mylittlesandwich · 17/07/2020 21:44

Here partially to see how @JesusInTheCabbageVan gets on and also to look at the lovely Waitrose packaging as my nearest is miles away and it's just not worth it.

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 17/07/2020 21:50

Obviously signing in for the grand opening! And placing my name on the list for next in line for jar opening. I'm too stubborn and no jar has beat me yet 💪

FlamingoAndJohn · 17/07/2020 21:50

I have a jar key. It is the best thing.
Given that I also mow the lawn and put out the bins I do wonder what I keep DH around for.
