I know this is a first world problem, but if anyone can offer any cunning solution to aid me try and get into these jars I would be most grateful. I have tried the usual techniques, tapping lid on floor, even took a hammer to one in a fit of pique. Nothing. Nothing at all...gah!

I need to go to Waitrose and buy tinned sardines. They look like tinned holidays!

Shannith · 17/07/2020 21:57

Ah... it's just like the old days Smile

Come on Jesus (I remember that thread)

Choux · 17/07/2020 22:00

@BarrelOfOtters

Try the sardine picante from Waitrose. We no longer have Waitrose and that’s what I miss most.
Could you not have posted this 2hrs ago? I have just got back from Waitrose and I would have tried some Smile
onedaysoonish · 17/07/2020 22:02

Hit the side of the lid with something - I use the handle of a knife. If you do it hard it should bend the lid and break the seal.

InTropicalTrumpsLand · 17/07/2020 22:07

I am far too upset to find out there's still no resolution to this saga. Don't fail us, Jesus!

LycraLovingLass · 17/07/2020 22:10

Did the jar ever open?

No longer have Waitrose? What did you do?!? Has the neighbourhood gone to the dogs and have house prices fallen?
Neves7 · 18/07/2020 07:43

Twist the jar instead of the lid (well that works for champagne bottles anyhow)

youhave4substitutes · 18/07/2020 07:49

Place marking. Just to look at posh fish

frustrationcentral · 18/07/2020 08:16

Awaiting the big event!!!

picklemewalnuts · 18/07/2020 08:24

Right. Despite hating tinned fish of all kinds, I find myself enthralled, and desperate to see Jesus open a jar.

Brenna24 · 18/07/2020 08:25

This is a very exciting moment to have found this thread.

Taranta · 18/07/2020 08:33

Churros!

Taranta · 18/07/2020 08:35

@JesusInTheCabbageVan presuming churros are the warm-up act before the main event... Grin

Starksforthewin · 18/07/2020 08:37

I think we still have an hour to wait, Brenna

Jesus will now be limbering up by eating her body weight in churros...

I like the idea of a jar opening service. I currently have a jar of Harvey Nichols Pink Grapefruit marmalade which has resisted ALL of the above opening methods.

I stare longingly at it whenever I go into the kitchen. All through lockdown....

DameFanny · 18/07/2020 08:40

Maybe you should take the top off with a sabre - champagne style, Starks. Also film it Grin

Starksforthewin · 18/07/2020 08:50

Wouldn’t that mean we would have to eat all of the marmalade immediately? As there would no longer be a lid.

I’m not saying that’s a deal breaker... 😀

SummerHouse · 18/07/2020 09:09

How are you feeling Jesus ? Shall we send prayers or positive lid turning thoughts? So much responsibility must be weighing heavily with so many churros.

SummerHouse · 18/07/2020 09:11

I should be packing for a holiday but instead waiting for Jesus to open a jar. Strange times.

TonytheDog · 18/07/2020 09:16

This is exciting! It's like going back 8 years - retro Mumsnet at its best.

I'm also very excited by the churro maker, it says it would arrive tomorrow if I order with the next 14 hours and 53 minutes. How much of a faff is it to make the mixture?

Churros and jar opening. What a great start to a weekend.

SummerHouse · 18/07/2020 09:17

Been reading the reviews on Waitrose and found this...

Can’t believe I’ve found this thread and finished reading it all at 9.29. Just in time for the live updates.

SummerHouse · 18/07/2020 09:32

Earl that's excellent timing - it's a fine time to find Jesus

SconNotScone · 18/07/2020 09:33

I appear to be here just in time too @EarlGreyT!

Hope you haven’t got greasy hands from the churros @JesusInTheCabbageVan 🤔
