I know this is a first world problem, but if anyone can offer any cunning solution to aid me try and get into these jars I would be most grateful. I have tried the usual techniques, tapping lid on floor, even took a hammer to one in a fit of pique. Nothing. Nothing at all...gah!

This is not ordinary tuna, this is tuna that can only be opened by the son of god.
HouseOfRunners · 30/07/2020 17:17

@VickyEadieofThigh it’s over £10 where I live but I think Allah must cost more.

Grin soupdragon

Oh this thread is magnificent. Thank you Mumsnet.

I'd highly recommend putting on your rubber washing up gloves. This usually twists the lid off easily. The other option is to wind a thick elastic band around the lid. Hey presto it takes the lid off when you turn it. Good luck 🤗

@Haggiseater

I think "good luck" is a bit redundant for a problem that was posted in July 2020

Haggiseater · 11/02/2022 17:00

My sincere apologies. I'm a newbie here.

ChocolateMassacre · 11/02/2022 17:19

Give the jars a hot bath?

Not rtwf so may have been mentioned (or you may have solved it!) but there is a whole episode of Paddington (the newer series) which addresses this specific problem in relation to a jar of marmalade.

ChocolateMassacre · 11/02/2022 17:20

Oh, just clocked zombie thread Blush.

RosieG23 · 26/04/2022 22:25

I realised that when one passes 50 strength starts to fade slowly. Whilst I used to go to the gym I haven't been in three years having suffered a slight injury. One thing I noticed was nothing was ever said about grip so I invested in these. I can open 99% of jars but may need a dry teatowel to get a decent purchase on the lid.

skybluee · 11/06/2022 12:33

How long did it take to see a difference from using those grippers and what exercises do you do with them?

Robindresser · 23/07/2022 19:47

Yes,I have that problem, not that I've weak, just no grip, keep sandpaper in your junk drawer,it a godsend for me

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 23/07/2022 19:50

TFW you get resurrected wayyy later than the third day 👻

Linjax · 03/08/2022 09:01

Try this to open jars. Insert a knife between lid and jar and gently twist till the thing on top of lid that tells you it's fresh pops up. Then just unscrew lid

Jux · 04/08/2022 11:23

Redpriestandmozart · 11/07/2020 17:51

Turn jars upside down, tap hard on the countertop (teatowel down to dampen thud) it releases the vacuum and you should be able to open them (right way up again).

Never fails me!

I know this is a zombie thread but I have today this:

I made bores tuna pasta bake tonight. Omg . It was supposed to do two meals but I went for seconds ☺️.
Bloody lovely .

Taranta · 18/08/2022 21:14

OP here. Returning just to say my flirtation with naice tuna in fiercely-lidded glass jars is well and truly over. Just as well as I’d have to remortgage to afford the like these days!
@JesusInTheCabbageVan will be doubtless unsurprised to learn I have returned to the trusty tinned variety far better suited to my soft London doll hands.
