I know this is a first world problem, but if anyone can offer any cunning solution to aid me try and get into these jars I would be most grateful. I have tried the usual techniques, tapping lid on floor, even took a hammer to one in a fit of pique. Nothing. Nothing at all...gah!

@JesusInTheCabbageVan please can you share the TPB recipe?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 19/07/2020 13:41

@BoreOfWhabylon absolutely! I do (approximately):

1 tin (or jar) tuna
1 tin sweetcorn
1 tub creme fraiche
1 serving pasta
Salt and pepper

Scale up as needed. Parboil pasta, mix, top with lots of cheese and bake.

If you want to make it more decadent you can add double cream and/or mix some grated cheese into it. It's also nice with a bit of tarragon mixed in, though I don't get to do that often as DS would turn his nose up.

Thank you Jesus! Grin

Naice tuna and butter beans are, ahem, a match made in heaven. Jamie Oliver says so.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 19/07/2020 18:03

Hm, I can see that working. I'd have to add mayo though, and maybe a bit of mustard. Can't be doing with dry food (mayo = summer gravy).

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/07/2020 18:22

Tuna and butter bean salad with mayo sounds delicious! And probably a fairly healthy lunch option .

Only if the main ingredient has been posted to her from another Mumsnetter. Mumsnet's version of Ready Steady Cook!

BoreOfWhabylon · 19/07/2020 19:31

OK, what to do with the posh lemony sardines, which I panic-bought at the start of lockdown?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 19/07/2020 19:39

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito consider me on board.

Can I just say - 'Mayo = Summer gravy' is truly inspired. You've just put my approach to condiments into words for me.

Blessed be the gravy. 🙏🏻

Same here, DH is going to love it too. This thread has been excellent reading, definitely worthy of the move to Classics.

@JesusInTheCabbageVan I have some very questionable jars in my zombie apocalypse/Brexit/Pandemic store cupboard if the What Would Jesus Eat thread idea takes off. What's your attitude towards expiry dates?

Cymru am byth! I was a proud Cardiffian reading this thread. So pleased it's been moved to classics, we need more threads like this Flowers and Wine for @Taranta and @JesusInTheCabbageVan

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 20/07/2020 18:05

@LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard if thou art pure of heart and without sin, then thou mayest eat of the expired foodstuffs without fear, and rejoice! However, if thou art a sinner, the wickedness at your core will cleave to all the sickness contained within the jars, and ye will weep and wail from the toilet for many days.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 20/07/2020 18:07

@Flibbertyjibbit Cardiff's awesome Grin We're having our first proper meal out in ages this weekend -Sunday lunch at the Cricketers.

HouseOfRunners · 20/07/2020 20:26

Here I am doing my shop in Abu Dhabi....and what do I see? Only a jar of Waitrose bloomin tuna!! 😄 I was going to buy one to see if I too have the strength of @JesusInTheCabbageVan but with the current exchange rate it was over £10 (I shit you not!) so I quickly moved on....kind of tempted to go back and get one tomorrow.....🤔
