Next door's -thug- cat

Has started coming in our house and stealing cat food.
Our cats dislike him. (understatement...)
Once he's in it's a problem removing him because he growls, hisses and then attacks us (launches at our legs etc).
He spends an inordinate amount of time in our garden or staring in through the French windows. Any suggestion how to gently discourage him? I have no intention of having outside doors shut for the whole summer.
Enclosed a picture of him sitting on our outside table.

The picture taken by NDN looks somewhat sordid - for some reason, I'm thinking of Trainspotting.

CassandraCross · 24/08/2019 11:47

Thanks for confirming the breed of dogs Grumpy I'm a fan of Spaniels too! We've had a Spaniel - best behaved dog ever and a Border Collie that was most certainly fun!

Also had several cats but one in particular was very much a character like TC and because he was so wonderful and unique and I will never be able to get another like him I can't contemplate another cat, which is why I am living my cat loving through the medium of TC and his antics!

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/08/2019 11:52

I’ve seen my Bengal do that too. Gross.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 24/08/2019 11:56

I've seen it too - but there is something about that photo - the angle, pinkness and lack of toilet roll that just looks seedy! I'm sure that NDN's bathroom is perfectly lovely if pink in real life - it's just the photo! and they need to learn to replace the toilet roll.

Choose life
Choose a neighbour
Choose a balcony
Choose a family
Choose a f**king big garden
Choose boats, cars, barbecues, compost bins and food
Choose sitting on that patio and staring hopefully through windows
Choose Basil, Sybil, Karl and Lenny
Choose Grumpy
Choose hope
Choose life

😂

Nonstop!!!!! You've made my WEEK!!!! Grin Grin

Mentally I added 'even if they don't choose you' after a few of those entries.

I have just stumbled across what I now consider my favourite Mumsnet thread ever 🐱

The humour with which you deliver TC's antics is perfect Grin

Thug Cat got your tongue?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 24/08/2019 20:22

WE ARE UNDER SEIGEShock.

The (very cute) sandy coloured dog from next door just ran through our French doors full pelt and went straight through to our kitchen to eat the cat food. Coming in she knocked over and smashed my full champagne glass.
Returned to NDN who explained (amid many apologies) that they'd been out on their boat and on returning she'd made a flying leap into our garden just before he tied up...

Meanwhile TC has been camouflaged in the savanna front garden all day.

And picture 2 from half an hour ago with a slightly bemused Sybil.
He's still there, having laughed at me talking the dog back.

She didn't do anything about NDN's dog breaking and entering though Grin

That midday photo is just adorable @grumpy

YetAnotherSpartacus · 25/08/2019 08:03

The dog is the advance troops doing a reconnaissance mission. He will be scolded by TC for his carelessness in breaking a glass. Meanwhile, with boats, BBQs, balconies and evening champagne is it any wonder that TC covets the Grumpy household? The resident cats probably have their own sous chef.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 25/08/2019 09:16

In the interests of artistic verisimilitude I must confirm that my 'champagne glass' was filled with Prosecco. Talk about slumming it Grin.
Love the idea of a sous chef for the fluffies btw.

I suppose TC could be grumpy with his owner because he doesn't get taken out for boat rides 😁

Surely there's space for TC on that boat?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 26/08/2019 13:35

And TC has found a bit of shade on our patio this morning (as have all our cats). I suspect it's too hot for any disagreements.
