Embarrassed by boyfriend

Been seeing someone for around 3 months. We get in we'll but he's quirky, which is fine - well I thought it was. Sometimes I'm starting to think he's just plain odd.

He's overweight and said he wanted to get fitter so I suggested he come along to my karate class. He did and I ended up mortified. He wore scruffy old jogging suit bottoms with paint on them and a massive baggy t-shirt with Harry Potter on. Whenever instructor showed him something he giggled. Instructor is hard arse, old school - I've known him for years and knew he was going to react badly. After 3 or so giggling moments and DB stood in weird positions and flapping his arms around like a little girl instructor said "what are you giggling at? Are you a girl or what? Do you have something wrong with you?". Everyone was looking. DB started stuttering and instructor carried on with "you know this is karate and not ballet don't you? Are you in the wrong class?". DBs face went bright red. I was mortified and just wanted to hide. Another female instructor said "alright, it's his first day" so instructor said "but what's he giggling at?". Anyway later on instructor came over to me and said "where the hell did you find him? Is he one of your patients or something?" I was so embarrassed I just said "he's a neighbour".

After the class I asked DB why he kept laughing. I'd warned him beforehand about the instructor. He replied "it was funny, I thought I looked silly!" So I said "you did, why did you act like that? It's a class full of martial artists, nobody else was acting like that" do he looked embarrassed and said "I don't know" so I said he shouldn't come again as instructor will have it in for him now. He got upset and said "but I like spending time with you" so I snapped and farted and said "well you embarrassed me, I've been going there for years and now I don't want to go back because of you, find your own hobby".

Anyway this isn't an isolated incident, a couple of weeks ago he embarrassed me in a cafe shouting and making a scene. In private we get on really well but in private he mortifies me.

He still wants to come to karate with me tonight. AIBU to tell him I don't want him there?

OK a) this thread is a crock of shit (no pun intended)

B) it's not even remotely funny (no I'm usually a misog, but this is so childish I just don't get it.

C) would you keep him if his trackies were from Sainsbury's?

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 15/06/2018 11:17

Ok I’m composed now - but seriously the snap and fart then the qualifier i have IBS finished me off Grin

Why are you bothering though OP? Does he have a solid gold dick or something because anyone that repeatedly woke me in the night would be getting the heave ho quickly, and tbh it doesn’t sound like you actually like him?!

FoxyBoxter · 15/06/2018 11:24

OP - do you think you might have been responsible for his silly giggling during the class? Think back...had you snapped and farted BEFORE the class began? If you had, can anyone blame the man for laughing? Since reading this thread, I have been unable to do anything without thinking about you 'snapping and farting' and I can't help smiling and chuckling like a complete loon - never had so many people smile back at me on my dog walk this morning....😂🤣😂
And for that OP, I THANK YOU!

ificouldwritealettertome · 15/06/2018 11:29

are you a girl = do you have something wrong with you !?!?!? Right well, now we've addressed that comparison!

Instructor = asshole. And you are even worse. Poor bloke sounds like he likes having a laugh and doesn't take himself too seriously.

And you shouldn't take yourself seriously if you're wandering around farting all over the place when you're angry. And it sounds like you're angry a lot. So are you jusy permanently farting!?

And you think he is the embarrassing one!? Get a grip! And for God's sake clench your cheeks woman!!!

ChocEggNoThanks · 15/06/2018 11:30

I have nominated this for classics because it made me laugh and laugh. Maybe OP would not want it there but if it doesn't turn into a pile up on the OP it might survive.

I don't even know why it was so funny but every time someone repeated snap and fart it turned the funny up Confused After a very long week it was the exact thread I needed. Thank God I didn't read it in work!

OP I can see why you were embarrassed and your BF does sound like a goofball. If you've got the ick it's hard to kick! Move on gracefully. PS your karate instructor sounds like the worst sort of bell end. I feel really sorry for the other instructor who was trying to shut him up. She probably spends her life trying to keep him civil Hmm

Goldmonday · 15/06/2018 11:34

I have screenshotted OPs posts in case this gets taken down

Neverender · 15/06/2018 11:38

Hahaaahahahaha! This is fucking brilliant! Crying laughing... 😅

Fivelittleduckies · 15/06/2018 11:39

Honestly I’m not sure why you’re with him OP. You seem not to like him at all Hmm any positive attributes you can list? Poor guy seems to be trying very hard to impress but if it’s just pissing you off why not move on?

SnappedAndFarted18 · 15/06/2018 11:46

ChocEgg how do you nominate it for classics? Despite being on here a while (name changed due to this thread lmao) & a long time lurker before signing up I honestly have no idea how to bloody nominate a thread 🙈😂😂😂

HipposareHungry · 15/06/2018 11:48

I just don’t get why this is so funny Confused it gave a momentary ‘huh?’ followed by a tiny smirk but that was it. How are people crying with laughter?

DiabolicalMess · 15/06/2018 11:51

OP: not this time no
DiabolicalMess:

I just can't... GrinGrinGrin

JELLYFISHANDCHIPS · 15/06/2018 12:01

Always a place for a Partridge reference

HebeMumsnet · 15/06/2018 12:02

Afternoon, folks. We think the OP might be having a bit of fun here. We've dropped them a line to see if they want to enlighten us (and to ask what happened to the Harry Potter T-shirt) but we're going to leave the thread to run for now.

It's actually had a few Classics nominations. What do the rest of you think? If everyone's very keen, we'd be happy but if not, well... we don't want to cause anyone to snap and fart over this. Thoughts welcome.

hellsbellsmelons · 15/06/2018 12:04

I love MNHQ!

Snappedandfarted2018 · 15/06/2018 12:04

Grin definitely put in the classics

Sharkwithknees · 15/06/2018 12:06

Classics definitely! New users need to know where 'snapped and farted' saying came from Grin

SurlyValentine · 15/06/2018 12:17

Definitely Classics! I am a miserable cow at the best of times, but this has had me proper wally-laughing!

Neverender · 15/06/2018 12:18

Classics!

SadieHH · 15/06/2018 12:20

Classics? Really? Standards have dropped then...

Clandestino · 15/06/2018 12:21

Getting strange looks here as the "snapped and farted" made me almost ROFL. Literally.
Your karate instructor isn't an old school hard-ass. He's a total horrible cunt and this kind of behaviour isn't acceptable, especially with a newbie. So he giggled. So fucking what?
I think you are totally insecure and as a result you pay too much attention to your perceived idea of what people think about you and how they judge you. Being ashamed for your DP for wearing tracksuit bottoms and an old Harry Potter t-shirt. Seriously? Get yourself a robot that you can programme so it behaves according to what you believe is socially acceptable.

PortiaCastis · 15/06/2018 12:21

Keep it as it's brought a lot of laughter to posters and we can all do with something to laugh about

Clandestino · 15/06/2018 12:21

And yeah, definitely classics. The snap and fart!!!

Trinity66 · 15/06/2018 12:23

Classics, yes!

Trinity66 · 15/06/2018 12:24

Classics? Really? Standards have dropped then...

tbf you seem to be in the minority here
