I've left the children (8 and 4 respectively ) home alone.

According to them anyway.

DH has gone to the bank. I'm in the bath. We did tell them both of these facts but they clearly weren't listening.

DS started searching for us 15 minutes ago and indignantly declared we've gone out. They've noticed the bikes are no longer on the stair wall (taken down so we can redecorate) and think we've gone on a bike ride without them.

They are making a lunch together for later. DS has armed them both with a plastic sword for protection.

Our bathroom is downstairs and I'm around 4 feet away from them.

They've got torches, spare batteries, lunch and plastic weapons. They're going to build a den under the table and "sit tight". If we don't appear by lunch time, they're phoning grandma.

I need to know which child is which age.

It is utterly adorable and has totally cheered me up.

MrsKCastle · 30/04/2016 10:13

Fantastic. I have such a lovely image in my head now.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 30/04/2016 10:13

This is brilliant! You've obviously done a good job raising two independent dc Smile

HelenaJustina · 30/04/2016 10:16

My eldest is the same age as I suspect would not face this dilemma with the same chutzpah yours are demonstrating! DC 2 on the other hand would be on the phone inviting every round for a party

AdoraBell · 30/04/2016 10:16

That is an impressive lunch, all that reading has paid off Grin

I still get the "where are you" but mine are teens now and will do this either from their rooms or standing 3 feet from me but looking in the opposite direction Hmm so I've started responding with "I'm not telling you, leave me alone, I don't want you to find me"

BathshebaDarkstone · 30/04/2016 10:17

That would be my 2! Grin

JuxtapositionRecords · 30/04/2016 10:19

This is so sweet! Bet they are loving it Grin

Hassled · 30/04/2016 10:22

I'm so impressed by their resourcefulness. Come the zombie apocalypse, they'll be fine. They'll have plastic swords, cheese sandwiches and the ability to repair wounds.

BathshebaDarkstone · 30/04/2016 10:23

DD often asks where DS is when he's walking right next to us! GrinHmm

Redglitter · 30/04/2016 10:25

That's brilliant. Glad you haven't appeared just yet. Sounds like they're having a great time

Lweji · 30/04/2016 10:28

Be careful when you emerge from the bathroom. Those swords sound dangerous.

ShowOfHands · 30/04/2016 10:28

The 8yo is dd. She is very independent, calm and measured in her approach to everything. DS is 4 and feels safe because he idolises his big sister. On his own, he's my shadow but he lives for the weekend when his favourite is here all day.

My mobile number btw, is by the phone and it's also programmed in to the landline. They could ring me if they were genuinely worried. I suspect their only worry is that I'll spoil the fun.

I'm so tempted to burst through the back door with my hair a mess, clothes askew and shout "OH THE THINGS I'VE SEEN".

I bet the oldest is just pretending for the youngest.

ShowOfHands · 30/04/2016 10:32

I think you're utterly right!

ScouseQueen · 30/04/2016 10:32

Love it! I want to eat their lunch. Smile I also have one who follows you to the loo and chatters incessantly so would never have got away with this.

booked83 · 30/04/2016 10:32

Haha that's so cute... Makes me wonder what my two would do!! This has made my morning (stuck in hosp!) proper cheered me up! Grin I would so run in and say that just to see what they say!

BeautifulMaudOHara · 30/04/2016 10:33

Lol at "the things I've seen"

ShowOfHands · 30/04/2016 10:41

Hope you're okay booked?

They made me laugh today Smile

Shall I run in clutching a plastic sword? We have 702.

Right, I'm going in...

StinkyMcgrinky · 30/04/2016 11:07

I love this.

Please let us know how you were greeted when returning from battle

SatsukiKusakabe · 30/04/2016 11:35

My dd make it her business to know where I am at all times, my ds wouldn't notice I was missing until he got into a tricky spot with his Lego. Now that you know they will survive, I'd be taking more long baths with a paperback Grin

The other morning my toddler was playing up before the school run, so I did a classic "right well we're going now dd, bye bye" (which I never do but was at end of tether) and ds howled "You can't leave her, she might get lonely on her own!" It was touching but also a bit Hmm that he thought I might Grin

KeyserSophie · 30/04/2016 11:37

I remember my mum going out when we were about 8/6, literally for 5 mins to the neighbours to get a parcel.

Sods law - someone rang the bell. My sister and I knew not to open the door so we hid behind the sofa. When they rang the bell again, we decided we should confront them - I grabbed a duvet to use as an ambush if they came in and my sister yelled "shout who you are through the letterbox, but don't stick your gun through" . The vicar was most surprised.

Grin @ don't put your gun through!

I've also had the opposite situation, where I left them with my mum for an hour to attend parents' evening, and she managed to 'lose' the toddler playing hide and seek within the first five minutes. She was hiding excellently and very quietly behind the kitchen door for long enough to scare the life out of Grandma.
