AIBU to want to talk to my 14yo about where this pill came from?

WorriedofMiltonKeynes · 19/04/2016 12:16

(Name changed) This morning, when doing my usual domestic goddess routine (I've, trying to shove as much crap from around the house into cupboards etc) I found a tablet under a cushion on a chair we have on the landing. Didn't look like it'd been deliberately hidden, at best, just almost dropped there so when I moved the cushion, I saw it.

Long story short, it seems like a street drug. It's roughly pressed, into a triangle and it's half pink, half white, with a triangle pattern on the white side. No drug number/company etc. Have checked on line and with pharmacist friend who doesn't recognise it either.
I have three kids, DS14, DS8 and DD5. The eldest is a good kid, doing well at school, sporty and engaged with school. Bit temperamental at home, sulky, messy, glued to phone... Nothing novel I would say.

Would like to talk to him about this pill, but AIBU? It certainly belongs to no one else in the house, but I have no evidence it belongs to him either (or without testing, that it really is MDMA or whatever). It doesn't seem to have been deliberately hidden, in fact, it's in a public place outside his sister's room - why do that if you're hiding something? So I do have doubts that it's his, but who else's, as he hasn't had friends around recently.

I don't want to be accusatory or confrontational but just ask calmly what, if anything, he can tell me. I want to give him every chance to come clean if necessary, but use it as a chance to talk about it, while also reminding him that his dad and I are in lines of work that regard drug use as a MASSIVE, pension losing deal.

I experimented with drugs at college and don't want to get preachy, but I feel it should be addressed. I thought I'd like to calmly talk about it, then throw in some contact numbers like Frank. Let him call if or when he wants to...whether or not he admits to it being his.

Am I being too weak? I feel that unless I have more evidence, I have to be careful not to alienate... Anyone have any experience of things such as this?

Is it a Smint?

GinAndColonic · 19/04/2016 12:20

Could you phone Talk To Frank? They might know what drug it is

WorriedofMiltonKeynes · 19/04/2016 12:21

Looks like poss E to me (it's been a very long time!). Just has that rough, grainy surface typical of lots of street drugs.

Google no real help.

Just assume he's innocent and ask him if he knows what it could be like you asked your pharmacist friend.

Maybe someone on this forum knows what it is?

It could be anything, the "pink and triangle" thing makes me think of viagra for women. Grin

Did YOU have friends around recently?

Maybe take a photo and ask the people in some recreational drug forum. It is impressive how the internet can help you find things out.

TipBoov · 19/04/2016 12:22

My first thought was a smint! What does it smell like?

BillSykesDog · 19/04/2016 12:22

Are you sure that it's not a sweet, or even some sort of other product like a disclosing tablet or something like that? It sounds like it's fallen out of someone's pocket so it's not necessarily his, has you had workmen/cleaners in? Or it could belong to a visitor. Could you ring talk to Frank first to find out what it is? It could be a legal high too.

I would try and find out what it is via Googling/talk to Frank then ask him, but accept if he says it's not his and just have a general talk about drugs. 14 is a bit young to be experimenting.

FellOutOfBedTwice · 19/04/2016 12:23

When I was about 17 my Dad found drugs in my room and went nuts... It was a smint!

WorriedofMiltonKeynes · 19/04/2016 12:24

honeydragon Thanks! Exactly what his dad said when I phoned... Much bigger than a smint though.

gin I talked to Frank (great organisation), they said it sounded like street stuff, apparently the two tone is pretty typical. Confused.

It's just so out of character if it's his...

If it is an E I would be fucking livid if he'd left it within reaching distance of his 8 and 5 year old siblings.

HoneyDragon · 19/04/2016 12:27

Only on parenting forums

op:shit I think I've found a class A drug.

Everyone else: LICK IT.

Grin
Twinkie1 · 19/04/2016 12:27

I'd go fucking ballistic at him first saying one of the younger kids could have taken it and died then I'd have the drugs awareness chat.

Afreshstartplease · 19/04/2016 12:29

See I wanted to say lick it, but didn't want to be flamed Blush

Fratelli · 19/04/2016 12:30

Where abouts are you? Pills aren't that widely sold any more, mdma is mainly sold in powder form. Of course pills are still about so could be. You would know if he had taken it though. How much access to money does he have? They're usually upwards of ten pounds a pill.

WorriedofMiltonKeynes · 19/04/2016 12:31

OMG. dying to lick it now.
