to think this is a perfectly good sized lunch?

For my 15 and 16 year old sons?
(If not a very healthy one but that's not my question Grin)

Ham and cheese salad sandwich, a frube and a wafer bar.

I am doing the next 2 weeks packed lunches for the freezer and this is being hotly contested in my house right now Grin

The tune of I never promised you a rose garden would work well I think

Klayden - yes please Grin

Fenella I think I love you.

just read 11 pages, couldn't manage them all as I have work to do.

But on every page was that photo of yummy roll

(not bitter, not dieting, not starving Oh no not me...)

My friend's dad used to read us poems as a bedtime story when I stayed at their house, the only one I can remember is Ilkley Moor...

NoIsNotACompleteSentence · 09/06/2015 12:41

Surelyyourjoking, nope, sorry, still weird as fuck...and Lesley Garratt gives me The Rage.

I do live in a part of the world where people actually talk like that though (I'll meet you up at t'asda) so maybe if I moved away I would miss it!

It DOES have everything.... humour..... pathos..... love...... folk songs and carbohydrates.

AcademicOwl · 09/06/2015 13:24

Love this thread... Have only recently returned to mn and have been surprised by how many just don't RTFT...

I think lunch looks fine; I might be tempted to add a banana or maybe some snackajacks (I like the fact you can get a small packet of them and I think they are gf?).

I've got a 5yo with SN; he recently told me that apples were no good for snack time, as they take him too long to eat :( but bananas are quicker (hurray!) and turns out lunchtime is traumatically long too...

OP, I'm soo impressed with your calmness and also with having 2 teenage DS who can cook (that's amazing, even if they didn't have SN!) sending you happy thoughts!

mumski2 · 09/06/2015 14:20

My boys are adults now and only one left at home, if I was doing his lunch box, that is not much less than he would have. When he used to have sarnies, he used to have either 2 slices of bread with filling, 2 small rolls or a sub about the same length in yr picture. He would also have a piece or 2 of fruit, a small bag of healthy crispy bits and either a small cake or biscuit and very often some of this came home at the end of the day.
Think it all depends on child and also their likes and dislikes. I personally wouldn't be able to eat all that, but then I'm not still growing lol xx

Bobisyouraunt · 09/06/2015 14:38

Not nearly enough. My 11 year old DD has a large wrap, plus fruit, plus kitkat (or equivalent) and something else. Also why wouldn't you listen to what they want? If they think you are being unreasonable, they are obviously hungry!

lionheart · 09/06/2015 14:43

Not to be sniffed at ....

to think this is a perfectly good sized lunch?
FenellaFellorick · 09/06/2015 14:49

I can't always blindly follow what they say they want. My eldest would live on peanut butter and my youngest would never stop eating. Due to their sn it is not that simple.
I also have no real life connection with non sn world or nt children and Ilike to understand how others llive.

In the past I have asked mn what teen boys like to wear, what's trendy, what's popular, what games are in... in order to try to create that for children who are teens in body but who love cbeebies and play sets.

Love this thread muchly.

Fenella - your boys are lucky to have such an ace mum. Keep up the good work.

NoIsNotACompleteSentence · 09/06/2015 15:10

Fenella, I thought your last post sounded a bit more "down" and I hope you're not getting upset, you have been very gracious and kept the thread amusing, but people's ignorance can easily tip you over the edge, I know.

It can be very hard having DC with SN and some people just don't "get" it, I have found one of the hardest things to deal with is other adults' (not childrens') ignorance.

Fwiw, you might not know much about teen NT boys, but you are surely an expert in your teen boys, and that's all that counts. Flowers

although I hate you for this thread really as I now have a fucking ear worm of fucking Lesley Garratt singing likely moor

FenellaFellorick · 09/06/2015 15:22

No I'm not feeling down, honestly. I have a little warm spark of affection for the non thread readers. They have amused me Grin

I am just running out of ways to explain the same thing.

I mean, I've written it.
People have set it to music.
I am considering communicating through interpretative dance. Upload it to YouTube.
In my mind, It will be very Kate Bush on the moors doing heathcliffe heathcliffe it's me it's Kathy

Fenella, I've RTFBTT and I'm definitely suggesting frogs' arses for my dc's lunch Wink

I think you've been a star to have reacted so politely to a staggering number of judgmental comments. I genuinely don't understand how people can criticise your choice of packed lunch contents, whether or not you make it for your boys, or freezing sandwiches - just because it's different from what they would do. You sound fab and you sound like you're doing a great job Flowers

Heathcliffe, It's me, what's for tea? Its so cold now, holding onto my sandwich..

Do you need to borrow the Angry Sandwich's glasses EatShitDerek?

merrymouse · 09/06/2015 15:56

I haven't RTFBTT as it is 12 pages long, but I think that lunch is fine.

However, I also like to put some fruit in for DS. He never eats it, so it usually lasts a few days before I need to replace it. I like to think that carrying fruit brings good luck.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 09/06/2015 16:02

Surely - I've just watched your link - it's hilarious!! Love Brian Blessed rapping away, and Alistair Griffin sounds just like one of my cousins! (He isn't, I should be so lucky!)

lionheart · 09/06/2015 16:39

Fenella, would it help to consider how long they have had this amount for lunch? Comparing it to what they had a year ago or two might be more useful than comparisons with other children.

I want a ticker saying It's been 15 posts since Angry Sandwich Said RTBFTT

MaryBerrysLostCherry · 09/06/2015 19:11

Seems fine to me. I assume the boys are under a dietician- I'd take a copy of your pic to the next appt (with handy ruler for comparison) if you are in doubt.

Glad I didn't answer first as my wonderfully simple solution would have deprived me of several hours of joy RTFBFCT. Fenella you are a star.

Gigglesbat · 09/06/2015 19:43

Freezing sandwiches has been around for years. My 1976 M&S freezer book features it and Mary Berry did it in a recent series. It can work really well depending on the filling.
