It's driving me crazy Grin

Here's a link to the John Lewis advert- take a look at the old movie showing on the television at 1 minute in, please.

Everybody thinks it's from It's A Wonderful Life, the embrace you can see at 3:21 in this clip:

But it really really isn't.

Luise Rainer? Maybe?

bobbyjoe · 08/11/2014 19:35

I thought Deborah Kerr at first but now not so sure.

No answer? clearly our 70s/80s/90s education failed us and our children must not suffer the same fate.

The British Film Institute support schools to set up film clubs. DD's school offer KS2 the chance to set on bean bags, eat popcorn and watch stuff every three weeks Friday after school . This term they've seen The Red Ballon, various Pixar shorts, a 1950's sci-fi 20 minute thing, Dumbo....there's loads to chose from and it's free to schools and pupils.

Hassle your governors/head teachers - it's an easy, fun, inclusive club that exposes a whole generation to some brilliant stuff.

Right what was that bloody clip?

ArsenicSoup · 08/11/2014 19:46

It could be Jimmy Stewart, though. A younger, thinner JS.

bobbyjoe · 08/11/2014 19:49

Could it be Deanna Durbin? Interestingly, Deanna Durbin was in a film called "Christmas Holiday" and another called "First Love". In First Love the actor is Robert Stack who could be the one in the advert film.

ArsenicSoup · 08/11/2014 19:52

There is a resemblance to Barbara Stanwyck

ArsenicSoup · 08/11/2014 19:54

Picture of Deanna Durbin for comparison

Deanna Durbin looks blond in that picture.

ArsenicSoup · 08/11/2014 19:58

You can't take it with you?

Maybe?

GreatAuntDinah · 08/11/2014 19:59

My great-uncle was Vivien Leigh's first husband. We should set up a club hearts Grin

ArsenicSoup · 08/11/2014 20:01

Yes but the face looks more like the clip than photos I found with her dark bobby.

The lead in YCTIWY (Jean Arthur) was also blonde, it seems.

Why did I click this thread?

bobbyjoe · 08/11/2014 20:03

How do you copy pictures over?

I've found some of Deanna Durbin where she looks more like the girl in the film - similar cheek bones, nose and brown hair.

Girlwhowearsglasses · 08/11/2014 20:03

Wow border film clubs sounds great!

ArsenicSoup · 08/11/2014 20:03

Save the picture then add it to your message before posting.

bobbyjoe · 08/11/2014 20:06

Save where and add how? Complete technophobe here. You can't just copy off the internet and paste?

bobbyjoe · 08/11/2014 20:06

Has this worked?

ArsenicSoup · 08/11/2014 20:07

No you can't C&P. What device are you on?

ArsenicSoup · 08/11/2014 20:08

Yes! Smile

bobbyjoe · 08/11/2014 20:11

Could the second one be the actor in the clip - Robert Stack with Deanna Durbin in First Love - which would tie in the with the theme of the penguin's first love.

Thanks Arsenic - suddenly saw where to save the pictures to - didn't mean to sound rude but I'm crap at technology.

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 08/11/2014 20:13

She's the best likeness so far.

I had a lovely afternoon watching Rebecca.

QueenOfThorns · 08/11/2014 20:15

I think her eyebrows are wrong, unfortunately Sad

bobbyjoe · 08/11/2014 20:16

She's more "girl next door" than screen siren as well which fits better with the woman in the clip. I'm not 100% convinced but there is a resemblance if you look at nose and cheek bones.

bobbyjoe · 08/11/2014 20:17

Queen - eyebrow fashions change. If your film career spans a decade or more, your eyebrows and your hair will change. I don't have the thin eyebrows I had 10 years ago for example.

QueenOfThorns · 08/11/2014 20:19

Oh, but I looked at pictures of her in the two films that were mentioned and the eyebrows were wrong in those. It could be her in a different film, though.
